• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Am I Being Too Harsh?

The part that scares me is that the kid is talking about breeding himself................. Has 0 money for caging, but wants to breed *shudders*

So this person is a "kid", who says? Shanell I think is the person who first mentioned it, but does that mean this person is underaged (or a baby billy goat)?

So now its a kid and ok the answer is "you want to breed and can't afford a cage and it scares me that you want to breed and have no money for a cage."

The question posted is how do you reply to these types of emails? Age is not an issue at all, its the type of email and how do you reply and deal with it without being an ass to the wanting buyer.....

Sellers need to/have to/should give respect to buyers even if they do not deserve it, so how would you tell this buyer no without being an ass is the question.

But, he's already done that.

Well I do believe everyone starts somewhere and the desire to breed is not a bad thing. Someone just needs to take a moment to educate this individual, no big deal. I'd simply tell him that I'm sorry but you'd like to see your animals go to a more experienced buyer, and that if he had any questions you would be more than willing to answer them. I'd also probably point out corrections or suggestions regarding statements he made that you found undesirable.

Just my .02

Laura, yes Labinnah's reply to the situation was very good, my statment was in reply to another post (quoted at the top of my post) and asking how they would handle it.

I ask extensive questions before I will sell a puppy, or any other mammal. When I start breeding my reptiles I will be just as careful about who I sell to.
If you don't have the proper supplies for any animal, you should not have said animal.
Sometimes I will hold an animal for a short length of time so that the person is able to get all the supplies-not often at all though, and only for people I know well.
I would either delete any e-mails from him, just say I do not wish to sell to you, or say There are others interested. I have done all 3 several times. One person wanted to trade some small rodents for a $700 puppy. :>poke2<: They did not get the animal.

no sale

I turn down sales without hesitation to folks that I do not believe would be good keepers. Some of the reasons include lack of knowledge, impulse purchase, history of geckos dying with no explanation, and even crappy attitudes! I ask potential buyers lots of questions, and if I don't feel they fit the bill I will say something like, "Here's my business card... if you still want the gecko after reading my caresheet, let me know" or "Perhaps a Leopard Gecko isn't the right pet for you" or in extreme cases... "I really love my geckos, and I feel strongly about who I sell them to."

I feel that honesty is the only way to deal with sticky situations like these, and the truth always prevails if problems wind up escalating.

I'd ask him for some pictures of the "healthy" geckos he has now, and a pic of the cage he plans to keep your gecko in. if he declines you have every right to decline the sale
Digital cameras are such a common thing now, that he could surely borrow one form a neighbour/friend/relative if he wanted to badly enough!

Why bother? Its way too much of a hassle to get someone to take pics, email them... man, if that was my criteria for someone to buy from me I would still have geckos from my 2nd year sitting here!
