In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Amy Zerkle's temper, beware!

To all the people that keep saying it shouldn't have been brought up on a forum, this is hogwash. People talk, get excited, share their new acquisitions. How many people that you know do not tell ANYONE that they are getting a new animal until it is out of quarantine and past all guarantees. I don't know ANYONE who does this.

I think we may be reading two different threads...what I saw people saying is that Beth should have contacted Amy about her concerns first, rather than taking them to a discussion forum (and, yes, she did mention the "lump" and that she thought they were mislabeled in her first post in the linked thread). That is a simple matter of courtesy and respect. By all means, post up pics of your new acquisitions, and share the joy with forum friends...but don't draw attention to problems and ask for opinions/advice before talking to the seller.
Again, that criticism doesn't make Amy's response the right one (IMO), but it does make it pretty understandable to anyone who has found themselves in that position.

What a load of crap. In business you shouldn't take things so personally. Your customer has a concern , deal with it properly and maintain your reputation. Deal with it like a hothead and ruin that reputation.
It is quite obvious Amy made a FEW mistakes in this one transaction and is so thin skinned she can't deal with it in a professional manner. The people I prefer doing business with are the ones who are there for me AFTER the purchase.
I think Amy should refund the $75 AND let Beth keep the snake.
I bought a $3500 Blackheaded python from Matt Turner. Six months later I realized it had a health issue. Matt IMMEDIATELY suggested he send me a suitable replacement and told me to keep the original as well. That is how someone gets a GOOD reputation.

 Figures, Amy showed up while I was checking something on Thamnophis (mid post detail confirmation gets me every time).

Amy - thank you for the explanation. What many of us do not understand is your insistence on the return of all 4 snakes. Why is the return of, or partial refund on, the one snake out of the question? (understanding that you don't have a comparable animal to replace it with)

None available

I cant replace something i dont have,,,,
Beth insisted on older animals she did not want babies -
the only other Puget sound blues as I stated I have are 11 babies
I thought refunding her money was the right thing to do since she wasnt happy-and i have no other female to send her
That way she is free to purchase the snakes she wanted from someone else
Amy

Amy I think you're missing the question, what everyone is asking is why can't she get a refund on that one snake, or a partial refund on that ONE snake, not all of them?

thread title

From the title of this thread posted by Beth isnt accurate-
Beth has no faith in the sexing or origin of these garters then I would prefer she buy the animals from someone else. She isnt happy i cant send something i do not have ....I have never been angry I thought refunding her money so she could buy them them elsewhere would right the problem instead-it has has escalated into "Amy's temper" when i was trying to resolve the problem I didnt see the need to write endless emails -just return the snakes & I reverse the money

I read that too, and there was a 3 hour and some-odd-minute gap between the first post and the email to Amy. Which could be, and was, explained by the fact that she was confused about the sexes and wanted some help identifying the animal with the problem.

It would honestly NEVER have involved Amy's name if she hadn't responded with such aggression.

We agree that she responded in a possibly-understandable but still overblown way to someone who received a problem snake posting her new acquisitions on a forum. For advice. Before she contacted the breeder with more information as to, say, which snake even HAD the issue.

My problem tends to be that it seems like a rather ridiculous response to what is understandable and normal hobbiest behavior, and is resulting in the request for a return of all 4 snakes?!

I'm just really confused.

And a little disappointed that someone with that much of a reputation would make what is, to me, an unreasonable request.

To each his own, I suppose.

And again with your response Amy you completely sidestepped the question as to why a partial or full refund on the ONE SNAKE is out of the question.

Amy, she has stated that she was COMPLETELY happy with the other animals, and was HAPPY with Lumpy, but concerned. She didn't want to ruin your reputation, but wanted assistance or reassurance in regards to 1 animal.

In the event that you DON'T have another snake to send her, which you don't, as you stated, and her desire to keep the animal, a refund of some amount, as there is no question that the day of receipt or before was the time that the animal acquired the kink/lump, would seem only fair to me. It seems as though some others feel that way as well.

Why isn't that an option?

I'm going to ask that people be understanding of a pause in the action here....I have been in contact with Amy, and she is willing to work with me toward an amicable resolution with Beth. While there are no guarantees, I think that what I have seen from both sides should make this pretty simple to fix to both party's satisfaction. (I have PM'd Beth, and await her response)

questions

I have never sold a snake i wouldnt be happy to keep -
She wanted a breedable pair you dont want to breed kinked snake since it could be genetic-I wanted her to to be able buy a breedable pr
Selling something cut rate wont fix the kink

That's why the Harald Rocks.

I hope it works out for both parties. It seems to me that neither are bad guys, just a poor situation that needs resolving. Good luck.

Amy,

Since she indicated that she would be interested in keeping her anyway... If she wants to provide a pet home, but would like the difference (pet versus breeding quality female) back, hopefully that is within the realm of possibilities.

Insisting on all-or-nothing seems a little harsh to those of us who do this on a smaller scale, for our personal pets, at least until SOMETHING gets to breeding age. Eventually. Someday.

I can see how it would make sense for those who do this on a larger scale, which is totally understandable, but not for the smaller scale people.

I hope things work out for everyone!!

/back to work!

I agree with the question asked.

IF she is happy with the others... why does it have to be an all or nothing refund.

Amy has given me a partial refund for the one snake, and I'm keeping all four. Thank you again Amy and Harald.

Now I just recieved a negative karma because I said Amy was knowledgeable but she didnt see the kink....OK whoever gave me this listen clearly please.
Amy Zerkle has bred animals that are rare, exotic, difficult, and frankly she is a high quality breeder. Garters snakes (Thamnophis) are high strung by nature. I have bred garters vefore (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) and this year I expect some babies! :impatient: They move fast and hate being handled. I produce mabye 30 a year Amy produces likley Hundreds! They are smaal as well they are not esy animals to just pick up and insoect each one. You could hurt them. I have acedentally hurt baby garters doin that. Amy is one of the bext breeders out there and has been breeding for many years. I will continue to give her a good rep.
