    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Are there any good sites or books on this? I plan on going out into some nice bigs parks to do some photography of animals and nature soon. I remember when i was a kid, there was a series of books that covered every animal from mammals to insects. It even sorted them by the area of america where they can be found in. I just cannot remember the name of these handy books. I'm sure something like this is probably still printed or on sale.

Sorry if this maybe OT, i figured the field collecting forum would get a better answer.
 
There's several series of books. The Audubon Society Field books are pretty nice. There's the Peterson field guide series, some 50 different field guides, everything from the must have Reptiles and Amphibians of western and eastern field guides, to Mammals, Butterflies, Animal tracks, venomous animals & poisonous plants, and everything in between.

I prefer the Petterson Series, because they generally seem to have more in depth info as to localities/range maps, identification, similar species etc., OTOH the info seems more generalized in the Audubon series, but makes up for it with the number of photos that are in them.

Then there are other misc. books that you can get, like I have one that covers the Deserts of the South West, that covers many different things of the area; plants, trees, insects, reptiles, birds, etc., nice for say a tourist cause it covers a little of everything, but only includes the common stuff one might see.
 
Thanks john, im going to have to get me one of those peterson field guides. I looked on amazon and found one for about $15.
 
I have one word for you Mike, EBay. There are tons of field guides on there. The only thing I do when I'm looking to buy a book on Ebay is check the date printed. You don't want something from 1959.
