    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Anoles and UVB, how much?

Ive got a nice 29 gallon empty and am thinking of making a nice planted display with anoles. The tank has the light strip that holds T8 style flourescent bulbs.So I am thinking a reptisun but should I get a .5 or a 10?

Also is there a bulb that combines both the uvb and plant grow light(I think 6500k) Not sure if im correct with the plant grow light stuff, I have to do more research.
 
I had a 10 on my 29gallon. I just swapped it out for the 5 tropical instead of desert version of the bulb which is bluer and much less harsh for my eyes at least. Didn't realize they were different spectrum but my recent headaches like this idea. Most of the UV fluorescent tubes seem to also be within the spectrum for plants. I'm not sure how much the exact UV amount matters. I have seen to put the bulb within so many inches of a high spot for some species so it might change the height you can get away with but I haven't found that specific of info for anoles. I do find the lizards seem to know if they need to go lay in the light. I put some in the tank that hadn't had uv light and they immediately found the highest, most open spot under the light that was not close enough to trigger the other lizards into being territorial. I have a large log that sticks up toward the center to also fall under the basking spot just below the mesh with a somewhat lower flat rock area next to it and a plant that goes nearly to the top they hang out in.
 
You'd want the 5.0 bulb Forsure, jungle species normally don't need light like that. Also as your plants a 5.0 long bulb could be fine depending on your planting methods and how you take care of them, but I would recommend a 2.0 bulb just for some extra efficiency. It won't harm them animals. You could spends hours and hours doing research on UVB light though and I recommend it. You'll be able to understand differences in brands and why one would be best for certain animals over others. For example (Exoterra and zoo meds 5.0 bulbs have ALOT of differences in the types of light they give off ��) So research could always help you understand it a bit more.
