I have 1.1 cb late 02 balls. I really am not sure what they are. I got them from a friend here in town who bought them from Wes Harris. He bought them as het for Striped Black Backs. The picture of the father is on Wes's site. Anyway, I looked at the picture of the father and he looks like a clown to me. I could be wrong, I haven't been working with Balls that long, but what ever it is, it looks awesome. I will sell the pair for $2500 or trade for $4000 in other balls. If they are het clowns this is a super price so it could very well be worth the risk. They are both eating frozen thawed adult mice twice a week. I have not tried rats.

Al.... Yeah, so??.... What's your point??....
If you have one at all???

What?.... You don't like the ad?....

You get excited when someone mentions "balls"??....

What???

....Neil

LMAO......

I just get a kick out of people trying to sell snakes they know little or nothing about. I also love to see the over inflated price if these animals are traded.

And no Neil, Im not the one with a ball fetish.

Oh Al... you're tho thilly!!.... lol

But, gee.... wouldn't YOU want to spend $2500 for POSSIBLE (10%) clowns??.... I think the ONLY clown here is the person that posted the "ball ad"!

Of course.... I really don't think you should post something like that.... he has every right in the world to ask whatever he wants?.... right??

....Neil

Yup

. he has every right in the world to ask whatever he wants?.... right??

Neil, you are right. It just bugs me to see ads like this for fear of some kid blowing his x-mas money on something like this, when they could be buying quality animals from you or I....LMAO

Al.... if ANY kid gets $2500 for Christmas.... he can probably AFFORD to take the chance!.... It would be really DUMB, but, it's his money???

....Neil

You know Al ads like that are part of the reason that I have little to nothing to do with ball pythons. Everytime you turn around there is five new morphs and every animal seems to be a different morph and a lot of people getting into ball pythons have no clue as to what they are doing or getting into. Then to top it all off we can all testify to the fact that all reptile breeders, dealers, retailers and wholesalers are good, honest and moral people who would never do another human being wrong ( OTGLMAO !!!! ) . And you are also right in your statement about the fact that people are posting animals for sale and they are misidentifying them or something along those lines, simply put - they don't know what they have in the first place so they damn well shouldn't be selling it !

Now, without getting too far into the biology/care aspect, Ball pythons are a species that exhibits phenotypal elasticity, this essentially means that there's a load of variability in any given animal without any specific dom/res genetic basis for some patterns or traits. This is something unscrupulous people might take advantage of (see, it's business discussion... sort of...).

The one that amused me was a guy selling GTP's that had obviously been red neonates and were halfway changed as "Christmas Morph" animals, the pictures in the ad showed the animals were not full adults (eye retaining a strong cross) but he refused to admit it when a buddy of mine e-mailed him.

I missed that one.

Wasn't the same guy, was it?

Thats exactly what I am talking about. Or for a while this one particular company ( who will remain nameless ) was advertising Bolivian Silverback Amarili, that may have been Bolivian ... may have been Amarili ..... but were sure not Silverbacks !!! and they were so overpriced I just had to laugh. Ads like these though are just embarrassing.

Having to do also with the discussion of instituting a fee for use of the ads here, could all this lend credence to the theory that having paid classifieds will not really weed out the scam artists?

It will weed out the amateur con artists who don't want to waste time/money signing up for classifieds.

Awww, I'm sorry Ritchie, I didn't know what it was and I fed it to a tegu, you might have to bet the right one for once.

Not with me because you're dead on accurate but... with someone.

You guys DO realize that ONE DAY, VERY SOON.... somebody is going to take a Pied or a Snow or a Clown.... and just CLONE THE CHIT OUT OF IT!!.... Then what???

....Neil

This will never change. As long as there are legitimate morphs available people will try to rip you off selling bogus ones.

I noticed the trend a few years nback when all the baby leopard geckos changed from "baby leopard geckos" to "baby high yellow leopard geckos" in one offseason. I also notice the average price went up about 10 bucks also. I also noticed that most of the advertised "high yellows" turned out to look like normal adults. Now that high yellows have become more established, it is more likely that the the babies advertised as such just may be what the are offered as, but its still a chance you take. The same holds true for baby jungles and circle backs that people try to sell for more money. I have yet to have anyone show me a jungle or circle back adult, and I have hatched out dozens of babies that I could advertise as such if I felt like selling people a load of crap.

Ball pythons and bearded dragons, and leopard geckos seem to be the worst.

When the price of normals drops to a certain point all sorts of imaginary (or temporary) traits start to show up.

Well I guess I have to reply in defense of leos (but certainly not the majority of leo breeders!)

Jungles most certainly are legit, I have two perfectly beautiful ones at home that have maintained their dark patterning well into adulthood as well as gaining a brighter yellow body.

Add 20 grams onto these but otherwise identicle (I need my own camera badly.. one of these days):

I realize that you still haven't been shown a jungle adult, lol.. but I hope you'll take my word. If not I can ask the people I bought mine from to post some pictures of their breeding stock.

As a former Leopard Gecko breeder...

I do agree that there is alot of crap out there. Normals being sold as tangerines and only slightly aberrant animals being sold as jungles, and so on and so on.

However, many of the morphs you mentioned are TRUE morphs. Jungle Leopards were my specialty until I stopped breeding leopards a few months ago. Here is one I produced in 2000. This is him at 8 months old and just barely breeding size.

jungle leopard 1

This is another 2000 animal at 6 months old.

Jungle Leopard 2

And this is another example. This one was 5 months old in this pic and retained the pattern into adulthood. I was told this by the person who purchased him from me.

Jungle 3

Hopefully the links all worked okay(these are on my old website). But if not, you can go to www.gex-anon.00page.com and view them for yourselves. And if you're curious NO none of the animals listed are available anymore. lol But as you can see, the animals retained a a very different pattern than normal adult leopards. Of course, this is something I selectively bred for in my jungle bloodlines. Some jungle lines will produce animals that as adults will look like normals. If you are ever concerned with this, ask for pictures of the parents and/or pictures of any adult siblings so you can get an idea of what you will get.
