    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Here's the scenario, I have a girl in QT who is gravid and she has an RI. I sent off a culture and now they prescribed baytril (said I could do oral or intramuscular), I'd like to know if anyone else has had this kind of problem and what the results were of giving a gravid female antibiotics. She just had her pre lay shed a week or so ago and so I figure she has less than 30 days to lay what do you guys think I should do go ahead and start her up or wait because it might kill the eggs? She is functioning fine and shed fine but keeps her mouth open to breath most of the time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I never really understand why this topic keeps coming up - is a clutch so important that it's worth risking the life of your snake? You are aware that you could potentially lose both the female and the clutch, right? Heck, in some cases, you could end up with the babies hatching sick - I've had that experience when I had a particularly virulent and resistant (though not according to the cultures) infection run through a small group of snakes a number of years ago.
 
I've thought about that Harold and would never risk her life for the sake of getting a clutch but was more thinking if I could save both that would be the best answer.
 
There's a lot of things that could go wrong too as far as losing her because the antibiotics are too much for her system so I'm just trying to weight the best option which I agree with you, is starting them now (well tomorrow when I get my Rx) but wanted to hear other oppinions. What is better as far as oral or IM?
 
I haven't used oral Baytril enough to comment...but I have administered it (IM) to gravid females with no negative impacts.
 
Ok great, thanks for you help Harald, I should have just PM'd you first because I know you have an extensive knowledge on antibiotics. By chance do you know a site that I can compare the dose they tell me vs a weight chart so I know they didn't make a mistake. They aren't typically a reptile vet, the closest one is over 100 miles away and I figured that to be a bad idea of a trip for a sick gravid snake so these guys are being very helpful on doing the research and sending off all the samples and stuff.
