In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Any Vegetarians on this Site?

I think this is one of those decisions that is internal, I do not think that forcefully debating the issue will change anyone's mind. Certainly you will never change anyone by insisting they are wrong.

I am always interested to hear about what people feel and the choices they make. Ideas can be offered and accepted, and cannot be forced.

So now your calling me a girl?

Well I'm happy for you, that's your opinion once again....

Like I stated before, I don't care what people do with their own choices, I just care about mine.

It's like when a guy must state several times while puffing out his chest, that he eats meat blah blah blah, he must believe he's manly...

That we do not all agree doesn't make this pointless. I can almost guarantee that we all will come across people with dietary differences and opinions during our life, and perhaps they will be people close to us.

It's good to be respectful of the differences of others and they may do the same for you.

I'm not a vegetarian but in the last few years have developed a taste for peppers, eggplants or tomatoes (from my garden) brushed with olive oil, seasoned, and roasted on the charcoal bbq.

Oven cooked faves include baked butternut squash, stuffed sweet peppers, stuffed cabbage rolls and eggplant parmigiana.
I think people would eat more veggies if they took the time to learn how to cook them, more than just defrosting and boiling a bag of frozen from the store.

I agree, you can add a lot of life to vegetables ( no pun) with more effort then conventionally putting them on a plate.

I'm not fully vegetarian, but I like the approach to use meat as a condiment rather than the main focus - so I'll basically cook a dish as though it was vegetarian, but then add a small amount of fish or meat, usually in little pieces over the veggies. I'll also have phases where I won't bother with the meat at all.

I feel much more energised when I'm eating a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables than I do when I've been pigging out on meat. Meat makes me slow. I also never eat meats I consider particularly cruel - such as veal (calves kept in tiny boxes in the dark) or Pate de Foie Gras (Pate of geese forcefed until their liver pratically explodes), but I am afraid that I am prepared to look the other way for pigs, chickens and cows....

If I lived somewhere with a really good variety of fresh veg like you guys in the Real World, I think I'd eat less and less meat - but then probably go out and have a nice rare steak once every few weeks!

On a more serious note - Not why I chose to cut back on meat, but my father has just been diagnosed with stomach cancer, and if you look at the risk factors for that, you might well give excessive meat eating a rethink - it's a truly horrible disease. :(

Your sarcasm is pretty clear Wes. The only thing ridiculous is your ignorance and stupidity...

Using meat as a condiment isn't heard of.
Meat was used as an appetizer and not an actual meal for centuries, even back in the 1800s.

Sorry about your Dad Helen

No sir the only thing ridiculous is that your probably twice my age and have half the wit and ability to respect others even in the face of adversity. I addressed your thread in good spirits and very respectful to everyone. Read carefully and you'll see that i stated consuming meat is not cruel. Then you said it was my opinion, which is technically wrong if you look at the definition of cruel (causing harm to others with no remorse). How exactly does that translate to; guy who eats steak is cruel. Im sure you will find a way. "So now your calling me a girl?" I know you've already considered me ignorant based on your stupidity but let me clarify something for you. When some one says Her descriptively followed by just one example. Its probably an example. Now saying pointless topic was a poor choice of words on my part but i dont think an apology is in order considering i wasnt be sarcastic and you decided to pick my post apart cause you got butt hurt. I guess time cant teach us all, hopefully you will follow this with ANOTHER FUN FACT! That is sarcasm by the way. ;)

I would be lying if I said that situations in some slaughter houses don't bother me. However, the arrangements by most of the large produce farms that provide the majority of veggies also bothers me. Farmers use the manure and ground up leftovers from the meat slaughterers as fertilizer. A ton of large farms have shooting lanes for hunters on the edge of their property. Hunters pay to shoot animals before they get into the crops...and they're not always great hunters. The plant by-products are often sold back to the cattle farmers for their stock. It's a big circle.

I hunt and fish a lot, and actually use the meet. We also slaughter our own cows, so I know those animals weren't mistreated. When I eat out, I do try to stick to more vegetarian fare. In a lot of areas, people now have the option of buying live animals and seeing that they're humanely slaughtered. A little more pricey, but it's also a better quality product.

Warning: Please keep your conversations here civil. I don't like banning people but I WILL when it appears necessary to put the brakes on their emotions about certain topics.

We aren't vegetarians, but we like to raise and eat our own meat.

Chickens, rabbits, and of course beef (it's Wyoming, lol). We have done pigs before too.

The fact that we can feed our stock what we want, knowing it's not genetically engineered garbage, is priceless. And the knowledge that all of our stock is humanely cared for and slaughtered appropriately is unequalled.

We know where our meat comes from! It's easy eating a tenderloin from a spoiled animal you put your hands on everyday.

Sounds like a great setup, i know if i had the space and time this would be the path i would pursue.

Old pro wrestler killer kowalski was a vegetarian and at one time one of the strongest athlete's of his era and a known shooter (real fighter) and in his 60's he would train young guys for hours at his wrestling school. But like you said, everyone functions differently. I like meat but notice the older I get the less I eat of it and started eating more soups and salad.

I checked this guy out 6'7". Monster of a man there. I too am adding more vegetables as it just seems easier and make me feel lighter on my feet. I personal just dont recover very fast after a long physically stressful day. My real goal isnt more or less high meat or high veggies anymore but just trying to stay away from processed foods.

Yes I avoid that also. Not entirely but a lot less than 5 years ago. I sometimes mini veg 2 or 3 days I have no desire for meat.

I have to have some meat in my diet, otherwise I lose too much weight due to high metabolism and physically demanding work. I suppose if I were to eat constantly throughout the day I would be fine without but I just don't have the time at work to do that.

All that said, I think the problem with meat in modern society (aside from the factory farm issues, etc) is that meat is the MAIN focus in American dishes. Meat should really be served in much smaller quantities. When I was in China a couple years ago, most of the dishes served had meat but all of them only had a little mixed in as small shredded, diced, minced or ground pieces; 80% or more of the meal served was veggie, noodles, rice or tofu. Here at home my wife and I cook mainly the same style dishes or dishes where the meat is in small portions.
I still like to have the occasional steak or burger but get really lethargic afterwards; "meat coma."

I've really thought about being veg, but i pretty much cant be. I hate the way we treat commercially raised livestock (watch Earthlings if you never want to respect of have faith in humanity again)...but I think as long as the animals are treated well, raised with respect and killed in a humane manner then it is fine. I try to hunt meat for us as much as possible or get locally raised stuff from the farms in the area.

I have IBD and am on the FODMAPs diet (look it up and feel my pain), where meat is really the only sanctuary i have from terrible abdominal pain.

If i have any plant matter whatsoever it needs to be cooked until theres nothing really left to not get sick. Makes me sad, i love salads and i cant have any.
