The Offer!

Since this thread has come back into the light, I'll make public, the agreement I made with Sal.

I had the "pleasure" {insert sarcasm here} to meet Mr. Tornambene at the Tampa Show earlier this month.
He was upset with the fact that the domain bocareptiles.com points to this thread. After some spirited conversation, I made him the following offer:

If Sal could convince just half of the people who have posted bad experiences with him on this thread, to post here that they have been properly compensated, I would give him the domain bocareptiles.com free of charge.

At his point, it looks as though Sal thought it would just be easier to change the name of his company.

Sal, my offer still stands - the ball is in your court.

Mike, although that was a very noble offer, look at who you made the offer to.
He makes his living ripping people off. It's just too easy to change the name AGAIN and "try" and start over. The only bad part is that 80% of all herpers know of him and what he will do to screw a person over.

Fair enough explanation Neil. You wrote it and You should be the only one using it. Can’t Sal come with his own TOS? Why do they have to be yours word by word? You want to keep befriending Sal, fine that’s none of my business, but you better make it yours.

Have you seen his BREEDER'S page??.... He has got some GORGEOUS animals!!.... Half of his animals aren't even up there yet.... Next year, you will see some of the most spectacular animals coming out of Boca Morphs.... even I'M very impressed with the quality!!....

In all honesty I haven’t. It doesn’t really matter what kind of animals he has if they were at least partially funded with money from people that never received their compensation. Not that he will be thrilled about it but for example Mark Westberg among others own “shares” of those animals. Mike Greathouse gave him the chance for compensating not all but half of the individuals he owes in exchange for rights to his web page, and he decides not to do it. What is that telling you? You can’t start running a respectable business by not making good on your debts. It doesn’t matter how “GORGEOUS” his animals are going to be. They are not going to be his until he pays for them. Do you honestly think people will forget?

I happen to have been standing about three feet away when Mike and Sal were having that "spirited" conversayion. I haven't had so much fun since my first snake egg hatched

That's what is sad about the reptile world. Every once in a while someone will deal with a bad guy and get a decent animal or go through a transaction that turns out okay, then even if it is the exception rather than the rule, people say stuff like that. They completly disregard that a seller is a thief, scumbag, poor business person, someone who missrepresents animals, or whatever bad guy catagory they are in, just because they got something out of it.

You never see a post where someone says.."wow, I posted this good deal because I had not know about the guy, but now that it has been brought to my attention, I am really sorry that I dealt with the person (even though I did get a good deal), and I'm sorry for all you people who got ripped off or had bad deals"
it's always "well, I got a good deal, so all you hundreds of people must be full of doo-doo" or "I got a good deal, so I could give a rats butt about all you people who did get burned, even though we are all in the same great reptile hobby" or "I know so and so, and when I go to his house to buy an animal, it is always very good quality and I never get ripped off, so I don't believe you guys who live on the other side of the country when you say so and so sent you bad animals or ripped you off"
It's the reason why people can do things like send dead animals throught the mail, or sell fake hets, etc, be exposed (and proved out) and still continue to sell.


To the person (or hopefully persons) that got the PM with the bonafied threats........... I would pursue them. I highly doubt that this guy is a police officer. He is apparently 19? so if he is a police officer he must still be in a probationary period, and in this day and age of police scrutiny, sending threats like that will probably get you fired in a heartbeat. If he is not a police officer, maybe they can bust him for claiming to be one. That's probably the more likely, I find it very unbelievable that a Police Officer would make such juvenile remarks (sure there are bad apples, but usually the "wanna see my badge" type comments come from people who got one of those plastic ones in the toy department)

I called the Indiana State Police after receiving a threatening e-mail through this system and they had no record of a Jacob Cowe. They had no comprehensive listing of officers of local police departments. They suggested that I file a report with my local police but I have not (as yet). Maybe Jacob will be stupid enough to reveal where he actually is. Since he says he is in "training" (and here I thought dogs were trained and people were educated but hey, for Jacob training may be more applicable) I may just call the state police in Indiana again and see if they can track him down.

For the record, here is what he said in an e-mail sent through this site on 4/4/2005. Again, I apologize for the language but it is quoted verbatim.

STFU .. I came here to find out about someone.... I don't need your **** so why don't you come over to my house so I can shove my foot up your ass.... Ok then you wouldn't want to do that to a cop so now would you... Want me to show you my badge????

Yes, I'm sure we all feel "safe" with Jacob out there "protecting" us. Another bully with a gun and a badge, if it is so.
