    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Anyone do business with the Roach Cafe?

This is an inquiry asking if any of the forum members have been past or recent customers of the Roach Cafe and if so, what was your experience. I place an order for roaches (specifically Dubia) in mid November and it took longer than the requisite days specified for Priority shipping. I actually told myself that I wasn't going to do business with the company again, citing poor customer services coupled with the fact that the roaches were not shipped securely (e.g.: some had actually escaped their packaging and were crawling about the shipping box). I didn't stick to my guns as I ordered from them (or rather Craig) once again assuming that the first time might have been a fluke or not common occurence. Well, here we go again! I placed an order for dubias and a breeder starting kit on 12/29/11. It is now 1/10/12 and I have yet to receive my order and of course all inquiries and correspondence to them has proved all for naught.
 
In light of not having gotten a response from Craig at the Roach Cafe, I followed through with the second line of action which was to file a dispute with PayPal. After seven days, in the event there continues to be no response on the part of Craig at Roach Cafe, the case will go to the next level being an Escalated Dispute. Stay tuned!
 
I ordered from them about 6 months ago and had no problems. Order came when promised, was packaged securely and had about a decent overcount.
 
I live here in Omaha were Craig at the RoachCafe.com is out of. I have never had problems with him. Someone else was saying the same thing on craiglist here too. I have sponsored on my site but I will call him tomorrow and see if I can get ahold of him. If I do I will tell him to respond to you. I will let you know tomorrow on here for sure. my buddy had of my business had the other account Jason and im Jeff the true owner of Pudsleopardgeckos.com. The mods here banned that other account for whatever reason im trying to find out.
 
Since Craig is local I've done business with him multiple times. He has always given me extra reaches and they are all fat and healthy. I have never had any shipped to Me but I woold say Craig and Roach Cafe are A+ in my book.
 
Rachel: Yes, I can post evidence of my transaction. As for emails and online correspondence,I have no copies as it was via the contact tab on the Roach cafe website. Jason and Jeff: Thanks for looking into the matter for me! As of today, I still have no answers, correspondence or emails from Craig (at Roach Cafe). Per PayPal, he has yet to return their inquiries. I call myself purchasing items from the various and applicable vendors on Fauna Classifieds as opposed to the two nearby exotic pet stores in the local area or even Petsmart and Petco for that matter all in an effort to support small/niche business owners who advertise and sell to this herp community. Such was the case with Roach Cafe.

I got notification from PayPal that Craig from the Roach Cafe fielded a response to their inquiry. Craig apologized and stated that my order hadn't gone out due to him being in the midst of a move in location. He closed his response by stating that he'd send my order out on Jan.19th via overnight shipping or he could refund my payment, my call. I'm in the mind to simply ask for a refund on one hand. On the other hand, given the people who vouched for their positive past transactions with him, I might be willing to follow suit with the original transaction.

My experience thus far is much the same as the original poster's. There's been a notable lack of communication, aside from the "we're having difficulty providing service due to a move" e-mail (which begs the question of why they were accepting orders in the first place if they were incapable of filling them in the quoted timeframe, but I digress). The "we'll ship it out at X date and notify you" has come and gone, with no further notification.

If not for the fact that other people have apparently done business and actually received what they payed for, I would've thought it a scam/fly-by-night company and have reported the charge as potentially fradulent due to failure to render a product/service, especially when my account was charged within two days (and my bank's policy is not to have a charge go through until the item atleast ships).

While receiving an overcount is nice, as the saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I'd rather receive the quantity I payed for with decent customer service than an extra X% that perpetually seems to be just around the corner. It's a shame since I also like to support small/specialty businesses, but with communication and service (or more appropriately, lack thereof) it's starting to seem like there could be a good reason they're small.
 
Rommel49 is on the money. Well as of yesterday, the saga concluded with me finally getting my order three weeks later no less. I think most of us on the forum/boards are fairly understanding if there's a mistep/mishap in the receiving of a given service or product in the event there is a reasonable amount of accountability, communication and action/amends on the part of the seller/vendor. The
 
Just received my order today and I'm happy with it. All of the little guys arrived safe and sound. While I'm less enthuastic about the delays/lack of communication, I can forgive those when the product's good (which in this case, it is). Stuff happens and all.
