    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have long been fascinated by Tokay Geckos, but have refrained from making a purchase based on the nunmerous reports that I have read regarding their disposition.

Is anyone here currently working with them and, if so, what is your opinion of them?

Can they be tamed to any extent, or do you just relinquish yourself to being bitten?

Thank you,

Jim Williams

Thanks Colleen, that's pretty much what I'm hearing from most people.
I was hoping that there might be someone out there who has broken the code and figured out how to tame these creatures. They are beautiful animals.

Several years ago, when I first got into this hobby, I thought Tokays were the coolest thing ever. Then I got some. I think I had 10 at once. I had one that was "ok." The others were horrible. I nick named them "Asian Vice Grips." When they bite, they tend to not let go. They're cool if you plan on never getting close to them. But they will not hesitate to attack if you go near them. I've had cobras and rattlesnakes that we're nearly as nasty as tokays! Heck my 3 foot nile Croc was better behaved than tokays. LOL.

Does anyone know of any species that are similar in size and appearance, without the nasty disposition? Something like a Tokay substitute for those of us who prefer to keep our blood inside our body.

I have a pair of gloves that I wear when I work with geckos of any sort. They're a kevlar based glove and you can't feel the bite. The gloves cost about 6 USD so they're well worth the price if you need to handle geckos (or anything that clamps onto your hand.) Perhaps the only disadvantage of these is that they don't seem like they will do anything with fangs. I've never tested them though because I deal only with frogs and geckos.

Golden Geckos are of the same family and very neat geckos that are not as aggressive as most Tokays. Ours eats out of our hands and has never tried to bite.
A second or third generation CB Tokay is your best bet for a milder mannered Tokay but even then no guaranttees. I work with mine alot from the day they hatch to acheive calm ones. You can tell from the start which ones will tame down and which ones will be aggressive.

Tokays just seem to have a nasy atitude, but they make great display reptiles I do have one that is pretty calm for the most part, but if she has laid eggs she will try to trear you a new one. But I liek tokays I think they are cool reptile to have. You just treat them more like a fish tank, you dont get your fish out to handle them and carry them all over the house.
