In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

anyone know about longicaudas??

hey there my name is kenny. im pretty new in the boa realm, but have a question in reguards on caring for this snake. i have a supposed peruvian longtail (longicauda) i got from a lady who used to own "MOONSTRUCK EXOTICS". she has had a bad falling out with her business so she sold off her whole collection to make her bills. this longicauda i picked up from her amongst other breeder columbians. when i first saw her she had the worst case of a shed i have ever seen in my life! i have had her for over a month soaking her, spraying her, wiping her down with a towel, but it wont seem to come off. she also had the worst respitory infection to the point where the "goop" on the right side in her mouth was thick, clearish blue and her whole throat was filled with the same stuff. she could hardly breath! i was mad!! i ended up boosting the heat to 84' low and 92' high for the last month or so and it is practically gone. and to make things worse she said she came from Jeff Ronne, so i just e-mailed him asking the or so common question, "is this snake yours?". he replied that he has never owned a WC longicauda, nor did she get this snake from him. let me know if you know anything
thanks

Step 1) See a vet.

Srep 2) Do a google search to find a few care sheets.

Step 3) Please be careful how you word your posts outside of the BOI. You may inadvertently require the post to be moved.

I'm curious as to why bought the animal if it was in such bad conditions when you looked at it. I myself wouldn't drop the heat on an animal that I'm treating for an illness. The immune system gets a boost from the 90 degree temps more than it would at 84. Other than that , I doubt anyone could positively ID the snake for you without a pic.

Is there a question buried in there someplace? (other than the title)

The naming of the business, and the pursuant gripe session, does make it a touchy subject for the discussion forum, as Bryon said.

sorry guys this is what happened. a friend of mine and i went to a house responding to an ad on craigslist in oregon where i am from, thinking there is a whole bunch of cool boas that might be availiable. (which in turn she has a nice selection of columbians and laticia) this one snake caught my eye as soon as i saw it in the cage. well she was bagged up already and when i took her home and opened it up there is a long wheezing and a horrible shed that is stuck to her. i instantly got mad and thought of calling her, but i thought it would be in the snakes best interest to keep it and try what i can to get the respitory gone and that shed off, because obviously she wasnt getting what she needed there. here are the +'s to her. she has great weight and a good attitude. as for heat and stuff like that i think it wasn't quite there. her columbians and laticias are in very great health, its just this one. she said she has owned it for like 5-7 years as a pet, not a breeder. the question that i had is if anybody knew habitat cultures for this specific snake? and the comment was made about Jeff Ronne what that i was told by the lady that she came from him, and when i got ahold of him he told me that it wasn't true, which explains her character. im in no way trying to offend anyone here because im not that guy but i also dont like being lied to.

Huh??? I'm confused about this comment here. How'd the snake catch your eye, if it was bagged already?

Nobody is getting offended by your post. I think what's being said is, if your going to drop names, and speak of peoples character, than this post is more appropriate for the Board of Inquiry, not the discussion forums.

If you are just seeking advice for the care of the snake, it may be best to leave the names and accusations out of the discussion.

As for your snake. Keep the temps at the higher end of the spectrum for at least a couple or three months. RI may clear up outwardly, but you still have potential stuff going on inside, that can cause a relapse if you slack off on the temps. Higher temps will aide the snakes immune system, just make sure you check them frequently to make sure they don't exceed 100° on the hot spot. Change the water on a daily basis as well during this time.

And schedule a vet appointment. They should culture some of the mucous so they can give you proper meds if they are needed.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas.

longicauda

thanks man i dont know anything about forums i appreciate that. and thanks for the tips

update finally woke up this morning with her shedding completely off! but to find out everywhere practically where the shed was is a very heavy scar tissue. i feel bad. i bought a digital, oil, energy efficient space heater for the room this problem should go away soon ambient is 86' then i have a light that brings it to almost 91' no higher though. and for everybody that responded to my e-mail i appreciate all you guys help. ill keep updated in time to come. and if anybody has a yearling or even a breeder male long., let me know there is a good chance i can come up with cash to purchase it. i know they are hard to find, so no worries if no response
thanks again

If your not planning on going to a Vet then jack the ambient temps to 95*(entire cage)loose the light as it will defeat the 50-55% humidity you will need to maintain.
Slow cook the animal,for 3 weeks**NO FOOD**
After 3 weeks offer small meal, continue to maintain the above temp/humidity for another 3 weeks.(Dont let the assumed improvement fool you)
Be sure to watch for excessive shed cycles, which are common with stressed boa.Direct misting of the animal in the latter stages(after the eyes clear) will aid in the process.

Be very careful in your use of heating elements and the consistency of the temps,it is very easy to spike to over 100* without proper/quality equipment.Thats when the term "cook" will become literal

Really should see a Vet !!!
