Did anyone watch the special on robbing banks on CNN last night?

They said the Nigerian scammers are now working right here in the good old USA under excepted Visas. They said there are over 30,000 Nigerians living now in the Houston Texas area right now. However some of them are honest, while others are now scamming Americans.

They also said that many of these scammers have been deported, only to return under a different name to run a scam once again. It must be real easy to change your name and get another Visa in Africa.

I didn't see the special but this is not new. They have been in the US doing identity theft for some time. When my father was getting frail and receiving home health services (mid 1990's or so), the agency sent a "very nice" Nigerian guy who wound up stealing a new credit card that came in the mail that my father never saw. He also stole some checks and the banks were out thousands as we only found out when the statements came in later. He had a network of people and had sent a check for $10,000.00 to someone in California who deposited it, withdrew $9999 and some cents in cash (just below the threshold for reporting to the authorities and also not closing the just opened account). Another, smaller check was negotiated at a branch of my father's bank. A third check, also for $10,000.00, was just being presented for payment and was returned to sender.

Several months later they presented a check from a long closed account to a bank in Antwerp for $100,000.00 That one they made a call on. :p

My father wound up being made totally whole but the banks were out on the credit card and the checks. The police questioned the guy but he was slick, admitted to nothing, and the surveillance tapes from the banks of course showed other people. The agency said they couldn't even fire him though needless to say they sent someone else to help my father after that. LOL.

Jim, that is just nuts. I do not understand why our borders are not stronger. These guys have been doing this for years. Surly they have a background, looks like we are open to anything.

What really kills me, are the ones that have been deported. Why are they not checked through the finger print database before allowed to enter back into our country? :shrug01:

The way they talked on that program, America is ripe for the picking. :ack2:
