Recently named in the 2016 aphonopelma revision, Aphonopelma johnnycashi was named after the famous singer Johnny Cash, due to the holotype being from the hills east of Fulsom St Prison, where the singer performed "Folsom Prison Blues", and because, Like Cash himself, males are clad in All-black.
Adult females appear similar to eutylenum, but are often very dark colored, lacking the rosey setae that eutylenum have, being more of a chocolate brown when going a long time without a molt. They also have differing carapace and cheliceral measurements, having smaller chelicerae than both eutylenum or iodius.
These slings were bred last year and are 2nd-3rd instar, currently.
