In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Appetite Decreased

No, he's not lethargic at all, but he likes to lay in weird ways like that. He's not sluggish in anyway. Just lounges around like a lazy lizard sometimes. The pictures are taken on different days/times. I can get actual pictures of him this very moment if it's necessary, but I promise you they aren't much different than what those look like. He's always got wide alert eyes.

He spends time equally in the basking and not in basking. He regulates himself good. The temps (I did say before) are between 100-105F basking area and 80-85 on the cooler end. He usually sleeps in that big log thing, and a little bit after I turn the light on he goes right to his basking spot gets warmed up, starts getting frisky inside the tank, gets his freeroam, goes back in the tank, basks some more, then will move around inside his tank again, until he finds his place to sleep.

Like I said, there is absolutely nothing different in anyway other than him not eating. He's done this to me before when he was only on crickets. I decided to try supers and then that got his appetite up again, he was crazy for the worms. Now he's turning his nose up to the supers but still has no want for the crickets either. I have a hunch that he might just be trying to tell me to switch up his food again. I have mini mealworms for my Leopard Geckos, and I gave him one of them, he ate it, but only that one, nothing more.

As for getting him in the sun, I take him out on his leash pretty often. Not so much these past few days (and probably for the rest of the season) since it's only been a high of 70-75 here now (and probably cooler as the weeks go on).

Well,he's big+chunky and he will not be harmed by the temporary fast...I see overweight beardies on websites pretty often and it's no better for them than is for us.So a fecal exam is in order but he may just be bored like you said...don't worry about insects or fruit for a while...give him greens and water until he feels like eating again...or decides to go into brumation.

He is more on the "hefty" side, not quite overweight but no where near underweight...he looks slightly pudgy in 2nd pic,but not overweight...you wouldn't want him to gain any.Pretty good size really.

You think he's overweight?

hes pretty close. in the wild dragons aren't big an plump! there flat, skinny, and sometimes quite bony. they don't get three meals a day like they get fed in captivity. When you go to the pet store again. pic up some bearded dragon books and gaze through them. look at the dragon pictures. there all pretty much thin. unless there someone's pet. i have an obese leatherback male and he doesn't get around like he use too. still healthy just alittle lazier than the rest. he looks good but like Angie said you really don't want him no bigger than what he is now.

Well, I guess this little refusing food stunt he's doing is good for him in a way.

What are the signs of stress with these guys? I just thought he might doing it because he's stressed out.... I did just move into a new home and he's in a new room. Maybe that's it? He's never in his stress colors though, he's always bright and alert. Now that I think of it, he hasn't been eating since a week or so before the move (like when we started packing and everything looked different).. and now that we're all moved it might be stressing him out more. We've been in the new place for just over a month though, I would think he'd be used to it by now. So he hasn't ate (well no decent "meals") for over a month. Maybe a super or two here and there... but now it's nothing at all.

Think the move might have something to do with it?

Yes,that could be part of the reason...at times I've moved adults or sub-adults to different cages and they didn't eat for a while...others never miss a beat. Also, something as simple as new surroundings can cause them to go into brumation at this time of year.Just keep a cool side for him,but if the temps. aren't cool he may just act the way he is...not interested in eating..maybe hiding+sleeping a bit more.

Well, I've never hibernated any type of reptile before, so I really don't know what else to do. I've already took away 2hrs by shutting the lights off early, but it seems that if the room isn't pitch black, he will stay active anyway even after getting cooled. He hasn't shown me any signs of slowing down. He will cover all areas of his tank and if he doesn't get his free roam, he will tear up his enclosure until I get him out.

Should I lower his basking temperatures? Take away another 2hrs of light -to 8hr days? leave his lights off completely?

I'm a complete newbie to this part of reptile keeping.

No,if he's that active, let him be himself..it's not cool enough anyway...just carry on like you were...he may still be adjusting to his new surroundings. If he really wants to sleep,he'll do it because it's natural. If he doesn't,then he won't.He's active so that's good..if and when he decides to sleep you won't be surprised and he has good weight on him.

Good News

He finally pigged out for me! He nibbled on his greens and ate a few supers with some much needed supplements!

I hope we're finally back on track here. It was such a great feeling!

i typed a reply guess it didnt go through.
a few things that might help if you decide that you dont wanna put him into brumation.

- feed him light, leave him hungry. dont feed him until he's full. might help him hold a steady appetite.
- dont leave crix or worms walking around his tank. if he doesnt eat them take them out
- and you may want to leave him with a shorter light cycle than you were originally doing.

I didn't feed him "all he could eat" just for that reason. I figured if he has his appetite, he's hungry, and therefor would want to eat more next time. The other two things I mentioned I do or have been doing regularly. The light cycle is shorter and I never leave the food in his cage.

I will be uploading photos of him from today out free roaming. :)

Like I said, I was going to post some pics... I took some pics of him today after he ate and was running around owning the house.

No, I haven't gotten a fecal done yet, but I still plan on doing it. I need to get one done wether he needs it or not, because I dont know when the last time, if ever, he had one done. To be honest, funds are tight and other things have to come first right now. So unless he shows me a reason to get it done again, it will just have to wait a little bit.

Glad to hear that he's eating Danielle..he looks good..yeah,feed insects on the light side and encourage the greens. If he's had a good diet,he will not need much supplementation.

I meant the much needed supplementation because of how long he hasn't ate. I don't know how long it takes to have MBD set in or start, so that was also worrying me. So I was glad to have him take some dusted supers.

Thanks, I try to do what's best for him (and all my others too).

And thanks for all the advice guys! You were all very helpful and so wonderful :)

Next update will hopefully be a good one - clean fecal exam! *crosses fingers*
