Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

April snow storn brings Coral babies.

Which, you cannot prove a dual sired litter at this point or even Corals unless you keep back all visuals for six months or so because of it.

Unless the father last year was a Coral as well.

Albinos can be born super pink and colorful and it fades within a few months but the Coral trait begins to truly manifest within six months to a year.

Not exactly what I wanted. Can she also use the male's sperm from this year if he copulated with her. I know he had her tail wrapped up pretty good a couple of times.
There are a couple killer pink albinos (corals?) in the litter. I'm hoping they are his. I need a couple for future breedings.

Are you sure the killer pink albinos aren't sunglows? Also, it would be very rare for what you asked about to happen. Sperm retention is pretty rare as it is. Twice would be extremely rare.

The father was coraled out by 4 months old. But I do get your point. I just might have to hold back the best in the litter and see what happens.

Boy this bites. But,I love sunglows too.

So she can't use last seasons sperm and some of this seasons sperm?

She could, technically, but it would be more rare than regular sperm retention. Also, I saw enough sunglows and hypos where that is very unlikely.

Yes,the high pinks are circle back ladder tail. At least 3 of them.

Now last seasons male was sold to me as a lipstick coral line sunglow. Never got a coral from him,but have gotten lipstick looking ones.

I'll hold back the highest pink albinos and see what happens. We should know by end of summer. So if they coral up,she used both males sperm.

How can she pick which sperm to use if she did copulate with the coral male?

You still won't KNOW. You'll suspect. The only way to prove that the coral albino male sired any of them would be to do DNA testing and only one person in the country is set up to do that to my knowledge. Until proven otherwise, you should go on the assumption that the sunglow fathered the entire litter.

Thanks James. I will have to. But,if my hold backs look like dad, that's good enough for me. I have used the sunglow for 5 litters and he never gave a coral.
Being dad is so high a coral,it would surely look to be his offspring.

Again man, thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.

The problem is, if you breed those holdbacks and represent the babies as being descended from that animal, you are likely misleading them. I'd contact Warren Booth if you really have to know that they're from that male.

I understand. And I do not want to mislead anyone.
As far as needing to know,I really don't I guess. This is just a kink in the chain.
Thanks again James. And Diem.

The question I have Chris is if this female produced last year from a sunglow would she still retain. It is something I never heard of? I know of females retaining that did not produce and giving a healthy litter the following year. I will contact warren and see if he can jump in. Quite curious if not them what would these be from? What would then genetics be behind them? Could they at that point be a new strain of hypo or a hypo type morph. Obviously Rich would have some breeding trials ahead to prove but could be cool! Either way a nice litter and a awesome surprise.

Michael, the most obvious answer is almost always the correct one. I have heard of this happening before. The female bred a sunglow last year and produced sunglows this year. It's not common, but it's a hell of a lot more likely than the hypo gene being "created" in the reaction of the breeding. If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

The female only had three viable babies last year and 15 slugs. This means, for whatever reason, during breeding last year she chose to retain the sperm rather than use it.

This is just another reason to not breed females two years in a row.

There is a good chance your albino male only encouraged her to use retained sperm and contributed nothing of his own.

Actually, even more likely is the male came in at the tail end of her follicle growth last year and was only able to fertilize three of the ova. However, he continued to breed her and she stored the sperm for later use.

Thanks Chris. I do understand what everyone is saying just throwing the questions out there. Either way it just shows the great abilities of the animals we love. Every year something new and awesome comes out and I would love to see something like this just pop out. Still exciting.
