    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Are Pigs bad feeders?

I bet that gets expensive, how much do you pay for pigs, what about goat, i live in TN so goats are like, $35 as of now, i use rabbits because they are easy to breed.
 
I'd like to try F/T baby pigs with a couple of my anacondas. If I ever run into a vendor at Hamburg that has them I think I'll try them out.

phone number, of a lady that raises pigs. I have a friend at work that knows her and can give me her number again.. I lost it!!! But she lives around Avondale somewhere... What kind of Retics do you have?? I have a 19 foot normal female, a 12 foot Super male and a 9 foot Tiger male.. Gotta love em!!! Mike :)
 
Lots of farmers around here raise pigs, and there is a pretty large mortality rate among piglets. I like them because the retics feces are smaller and "less" smelly than with rats or rabbits. I have to trick my boas by rolling the pigs in soiled rat bedding, but they eat them also.

I've heard that Jason at Classic Dums carries them frozen.
 
I've got two young tigers, they're both about 6ft. But, I just got a 6ft, 16lb Argentine and I've got an 8ft, 24lb female coming. Both of them should be able to handle baby piglets.

I think hes out of them if its the guy I am thinking about. I think what the thread was initially asking is are pigs ok to use as feeders for boas. I never thought about it because of the price. Rats from Rodent Pro are much cheaper than pigs or rabbits. When the snake gets too big where even the biggest rats won't fill it up, nothings cheap anymore.
 
My guess is that the original poster was curious about the nutritional value of pigs, as opposed to more conventional prey items.

Anyone have any data in that respect?

I know that years ago, a local Raptor Rescue had an over-abundance of frozen Guinea Pigs and was looking for an outlet. I tried those with the boas for a short time. Although they were readily accepted by the boas, they have a very high fat content. The resulting defecations were very unpleasant.
 
It's been years since I had anything big enough to take piglets, but I do remember that when I switched My burms over, My Vet at the time also recomended i start doing regular wormings on My burms do to the amount of these little buggers that pork is capable of carrying.

Medicine has come a long way, so i don't know if this is still recomended, or if they have found out better things these days. But that's my experience with pig feeders. And like Casey said, I noticed smaller, less offensive turds from them as well.

If anyone finds that nuritional value info for pigs, that would be nice to look through.

Seeing as how Rodentpro sent me a big 'ol batch of bad pinks and fuzzies, I almost wish there name was not at the top of that page. LOL I also wonder (as in curious) from what source they derived this info. There's no mention of this that I can find.

None the less, seems to be a very informative link. Thanks for sharing that.

You too? I got an order of rat pups-XXL rats and the order arrived thawed. I got it replaced but thats not the point, there quality has really slipped downhill lately
