In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I also feel bad that I haven't made any contributions to this site (I'm just tight on money now, I'll be paying by june). I really like the idea of the Fauna Mentor Program brought up by lucille.
Don't hold back on posting just because you can't (or don't want to) contribute right now. As a registered member, you are part of the Fauna community and welcome to post in the forums.
I saw that post about the mentor program, and agree that it sounds like a good idea. Hopefully, (if it gets started) people will take advantage of it.

Simply time

I was at one time quite a blabbermouth:willy_nil on the forums. I actually long for the time I was able to spend on Fauna. I made some good contributions, and made some stupid mistakes. I was (am) accepted and treated according to my own actions/comments. The time I needed to be smacked upside the head with a 2X4, I got it.:slamit: I received the needed encouragement to quit being Judgemental and engage my mind more fully before letting my heart rule my thinking. I love all of you and wish I had the time to spend posting again.

I still come to the forum frequently, I just don't have the time to hang out and comment. I do the research I need, usually get the answers i am looking for, the bam I am off to work again.

I am still working my Full time job and have started up my full line pet store. I also have the hubby, 2 teenagers, 16 various pets at home that all want a piece of my time. Keeps me hopping. I am very thankful that I know where to find accurate information quickly. I hope to be able to quit my job in another 18-24 months and just work the store full time. then I will probably be back in force.

Sorry for the long answer.

Glad to hear the shop is doing well. At least you haven't forgotten us, lol.

I used to be a lot more active posting on the forums across the net, but have slowed down quite a bit mostly due to the fact that I am non confrontational and I do not particularly care for redundant postings. I know a lot about chondros and my local native snakes, but that's about it and rarely have anything significant or educational to add to existing threads.

Believe me, you are not alone in that. Unfortunately, many people are of the mind that "researching" means asking on a forum. I still do find myself suggesting that people do some research, utilize the search functions on the forum, THEN post remaining/unanswered questions. I don't intend to come of as confrontational, or scolding, but I probably have at times (I'm working on that, lol). As some of us have discussed, we can't/shouldn't ignore threads/posts just because we have responded to the subject matter 14 times in the past 35 days. And sometimes, getting the same advice from several people is what it takes to get through to somebody, lol.

You might be surprised...even something as seemingly trivial as a different way of doing the the same thing can be of major help. Me, I'm more of a generalist...I keep a variety of species. Always have. I have tried to narrow it down, even to specialize, but I keep finding my attentions turning to this or that. The nice thing is that there is room for all of us, and we can all help somebody :D

**AAAGH. :ack2: What is this sicky sweet, nice thing that has invaded my crankiness? :throwup02: Next thing you know, I'll break into a chorus of It's a Small World After All or We are the World

actually i do post , just not alot as of yet . i just joined this board a week or 2 ago and i am still familiarizing myself with it . i do plan on posting more in the future though . i think that one of the reasons some people might not post here is because they think of it as a buisness forum . mainly for those that deal in larger numbers of reptiles . atleast that is the impression i had at first . i've been visiting this site for close to 6 months and just in the last couple weeks have i actually started posting . up until then i thought of this site primarilly as a classified for reptiles site and a place for breeders , wholesalers , and retailers to get together . it wasnt until recently that i even knew that the forums were for anyone . now that i have actually looked over the forums i see i was wrong , but to people that come here new it can seem otherwise . just my 2 cents , i may be completely wrong , but its how i see it .
Dido! I'm just starting to get use to this place.

My point was that on some of the other forums I have visited, people aren't necessarily kind to people with less experience. One in particular has a mod that is incredibly full of himself (full of something else, too, IMO). We clashed a bit in the beginning, but the hatchet seems to be buried.
I do appreciate your input, and that you expanded on your explanation a bit.
Just out of curiosity dos that forum start with a B

OK I'm caught one of that number is me!! This Poll is a good idea Harald might steal ah um borrow it from you.

Cathy what are you doing over here :)

Mark made some good points and I too have thought that the Forums would get more attention if they were noticed, heck I was a member for a month or so before I noticed most were down there. Randy

You might want to put a bit of a twist on it to make it your own, lol- I have also copied this same thread to the Feedback Forum (or if you want, I can put it there, too, lol)

Much like Dean, I'm very active on CS.com (3500+ posts) compared to not active much at all here. I read the BOI when I am bored and for amusement. I've really only used it once or twice from a buying standpoint. The forums here are just not that active, and it's too bad. My main interest is in corns, and the corn forum here is just rather lame. I do occasionally browse other forums, but nothing really 'catches' my attention other than the BOI.

I am typically a classic lurker. Addicted to snakes, and
therefore to informational snake sites, and forums as well.
It is not uncommon for me over the last two years to visit
6 different sites, two or three times a day to check for
new posts in the areas I am interested (especially the classified
sections!). I am old school and just actually got a home
computer two years ago.
There are a few reasons I do not post much, the biggest one
is I always research the animals I am thinking of purchasing in
advance so I have a good understanding of what to expect
while they are in my care. Another is I really dislike the way
some people flame others on a lot of sites, This behavior has
ruined way too many really good threads for me (and I do not
mean the constructive criticism either!).
Overall though if I am to be honest, I love all
my snakes! (10 at this point) but they are not the beauties that
most breeders post pictures of (only in my mind), I have in
the past posted pics on different sites but no longer do so much,
as most people do not want to see the same pics over and
over again.

I guess sometimes I am a little old fashioned, comes from being raised by my grandparents. I was raised to not open my mouth unless I really know what I am talking about, and that is the way I act here. Many times someone has beaten me to the punch, and if I think they are correct I let it go. BTW I have kept herps for 18 years and worked in retail and wholesale, as well as a college education, if that counts for anything. :)

I'm a long time member on other forums & a new member here; not good at lurking.

As someone told me long ago, "The best way to learn is to teach". Yes, there are times when the same old questions can drive one up a wall, but it's new to the poster & I'm careful to respect that. Plus it's another opportunity to explain procedures or pass on information; priceless practice making oneself clear (IMHO).

I like sharing something I love with others so it's all good! -Deb

I have been a member of fauna for a few years now but I only post when I have some burning question that has not been answered in the literature or other websites. I am active in other forums and I tend to use the BOI when I am in the process of buying new animals. Lately, I have been reading them for entertainment which has led me to explore the rest of the site.

Hmmmm. Considering that I have responded to most of them personally (just finished one a few minutes ago, as a matter of fact), I have to disagree with that one.

I am a lurker. Often times I feel I have nothing to contribute to the conversations taking place or something has grabbed my attention ticked me off and feel it is just better to keep my typing fingers away from the board since they have nothing nice to type. Sometimes I find myself googling terminolgy just to understand what a person is saying. Im no expert, just a pet keeper. I love my cold blooded friends, My alligator and I watch television together, we have mind conversations. Maybe one day Ill write a book called conversations with my alligator. My Ball python and I read the fauna forums together, she feels just like I do about typing. OK, I dont know that she is a she but I feel that she is a she ;-) Just like Fatso, the alligator I mean, is a he. My leo, just curiously watches almost everything I do but he doesnt like for me to handle him much .. cant figure that one out. Guess he's anti social. My leather back wants me to set him free, I can feel it. Every time I feed him he says woman why did u pluck me outta me muck .. take me back please. Im much to selfish. My latest addition an albino cornsnake is still is getting used to me, I believe we will make fast friends as I adore him. Soon I'm sure another friend is gonna call out to me... It's hard to choose, Im battling snake or lizard, Im leaning toward snake but a couple lizards have caught my eye. Oh I think I didnt vote.

Would you please clarify what animal your speaking about here.
I don't want to risk a guess.
Thank you.

Christopher,
A terminology thing again. Its actually called a soft shell turtle. People in this area call them leatherbacks.
