In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I posted in the only forum I post in so yes in my opinion it was the correct forum

Hmm, if we all posted in whatever forum we pleased just because its the only one we post in then this place would be a mess. Fauna is organized very well and it makes it a great place to be, we should respect the system and the effort that Rich puts into it.

I posted in the Leopard Gecko forum because I am a Leopard Gecko breeder my post was to get opinions from people from that forum because like I said that is the only forum I go to on Fauna. I did not even know there was a forum for webpages ect. I feel my post was on topic, Leopard Gecko forum / Leopard Gecko webpage but whatever. This topic was about why people Lurk..... well there you go.

I see your point. Sorry for being a bit quick to make a judgement. I can see that topic falling in a gray area as to which forum it belongs in, but it is up to the administator to make the final decision.

Well I am sorry that you took it that way, but the way I handled your post has been the policy here for quite a long time. And I suspect that if you go to ANY large message board site like this one and post a thread such as your "my new website" thread in a discussion forum you will likely have the same sort of thing happen. Actually I have been on some sites that doing something like that will get you banned immediately. So I think my policy of simply moving such threads to the correct forum is a fair compromise, all things considered. I do regret that you took it personally.

I only joined just recently, but I do qualify as a lurker. Lurking is a good way to get a feel for things, learn the ropes, and get a lot of great information without asking the same question hundreds of others have asked before.

Also, not everybody is all that outgoing. I find the bigger the forum, the quieter I am. It's a little intimidating, so I only post or respond to something when I'm sure I actually have something to contribute. Plus, as someone else pointed out, not everyone is going to keep up with *all* the interests here on Fauna. Some of us are pretty zeroed in on certain species, so if things are quiet in that particular forum... we're probably going to be too. It's hard to start a post just for the sake of posting something beyond "Here's some pics." :shrug01:

I've lurked here off and on ever since I became a member. I confess that I tend to favor sites that deal specifically with the reptiles I keep, such as cornsnakes.com, bluetongueskink.com and thetegu.com. I do research the BOI when I'm considering dealing with someone I'm unfamiliar with, or occasionally when I need a good laugh!

But I still read and search and learn much more than I post. There are so many people who know much more than I, and that resource is very valuable to me.

But then, I've been encouraged lately to post more on several forums, because of all the research I've been doing. Go figure....guess maybe I do have something to contribute.

I voted "other".

My perception:

Reptile forums are broken down to this:
-Hobbyist general reptiles
-Hobbyist specific reptiles
-Reptile sales
-Reptile business
Fauna to me is more of a reptile business site. If I have a question on business aspects of reptiles I ask here. On the hobbyist side I normally visit other sites.

My last 5 purchases of reptiles or cages have come from the classifieds here, my experience has been, that all of the sellers I have dealt with here are great.

I do like BOI, I don't like how the rules to post seem to change depending on how the wind blows.

The classified section can be difficult to navigate. Why is there a need to have two sections (classifieds and alternate classifieds). As a consumer this is a PITA that I need to check both, when other sites have one click shopping.

It may seem that I am beating up this site, but I'm not. Just giving honest feedback. I visit daily, sometimes more, sometimes less and will continue to do so.

I'm here. . .

But I don't post a lot because either 1 - someone says what I wanted to say or 2 - I don't have input that is of value - I read and gain information, but don't like to get into bash-fests or repeat stuff that has already been said. I do use the forum quite a bit when it comes to checking out folks that I might buy my reptiles from, but just don't post a lot.

I only browse forums when I am bored & need entertainment

Heh thats me. I have lots of things to say, but it looks like, on this forum, its too easy to get banned.

so i keep things to myself

heheh.

I voted for other.

I originally would just come to fauna just for the BOI. At the time, fauna had been shut down to the point where one had to be a contributing member to post.

At the time I was active on 4 or 5 different forums related to reptiles and inverts. I didn't really want to spend the time on a new forum, and considering the way posts often go in the BOI, I wasn't really interested.

I'm also an forum admin (I am not the forum owner), so I spend more time working on that forum than any of the others.

I would also add that at the time, apparently I didn't realize the minimum dollar value to contribute was $10.

I don't post because I'm too sensitive. People seem to pick apart everything someone says and attack them. eg. Here's the ball python I nursed back to health *pic inserted* response: She looks much better BUT She looks plump, you're feeding her the wrong thing.

Why can't they just say something nice and leave it at that. Someone had asked about separating mice once they have babies, and someone had responded about the babies will die of starvation when taken away from their mothers milk. To me, it's offensive to assume that the poster is an idiot and didn't know that. FYI, the poster was offended.

Why can't everyone just get along. Yah, the animal's welfare is the most important thing, but just be nice. That's my 2 cents. I don't post so I don't get worked up about the responses. It has never hapened to me yet, but I "lurk" and see it happen to others all the time.

Have a great day.

lol thats how it is on here apparently. Yeah I know what you are talking about. People always want to correct people to show superiority, then their buddies make you feel even worse by giving rep to the person that made you feel like an idiot. Thats exactly what happened to me here *sigh*

So what would you suggest that I do about the people who do such things here? Ban them? :D

LOL! Sorry, I couldn't help myself when I noted your previous post here:

You need to have very thick skin on this site, try posting something for sale. they will tell you its to much or to cheap or any number of reasons. maybe they are just having a bad day. take it with a grain of salt and dont be bothered by it. ;)

I forgot to say why I don't post so much.

Well first off, I'm naturally a quiet person. So I guess it just flows over to my posting to.

Second, sometimes I feel I really have nothing to add. Either really good advise has already been given, or it's a good guy/bad guy argument that I have no input to. :shrug01:
