In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Arizona Exotics --- Payson, Az.

Okay, well I'm still out of town(and posting from my phony), but i was in Payson as of Thursday. What I can tell you is I know the store and owner very well. I went in and looked at the situation. Yes there was one collard lizard in awful condition, Tom had you asked or said something to someone(instead of snapping a photo) they'd of told you that a lady brought it in after not caring for it properly for over 30 days and left it with them. The had no room in quarantine to place it and the decision to place it in the enclosures was incorrect. As far as that goes it wasnt handled properly.

Yes as for the "30"animals in need of immediate attention, there is not even 25 reptile on display for sale. They were actually in good condition contrary to your statement, only animals that I can even think of appearing thin were two very young savanna monitors. Unfortunately due to the holiday weekend they had received feed crickets the week before and than delayed due the memorial day weekend..crickets are in and they are back being fed daily.

Dry empty water bowls were in majority empty enclosures. The water bowls that had algae our changed out and refilled often. It is Arizona and those enclosures have very good ventilation and dry out fast.. literally within a 24hr period a small water bowl can dry out..this is summer in az after all.

Sheds in the enclosures? Two enclosures had sheds.

While I'm not associated with the shop I do know them very well, well enough to bring this thread to their attention and to say your embellishment of the exact situation was needless to say excessive. If everything is/was as bad as you claimed please provide more proof than one image of an animal you didn't even inquire about.

I mean hell you walked in and saw that and didn't say anything out even attempt to do anything? ...

This will be the only post I make. Everyone has an of week, imperfect visit but i assure you the statements from Tom were no were near as tragic as stated, and again had he asked and been informed about the 1 animal in a poor pre existing shape he may have gotten more info.

I re-read this just now... I'd like you too as well James. You made my DNBFOST list with this rejected wall of words here. Crying about an attack when you dismissed the seriousness of what's going on in that dump. You're crazier than I am, and that's hard to do!

I apologize ahead of time if I say something noob-ish since this is my first post ever. I'm just here to set some things straight since this thread has caused a lot of stress for some people. I am an employee at AE Pets. I don't really know too much about the reptiles, since I'm mostly just a cashier here for the summer, but I can clear some things up here. You can trust me. I'm not a close friend of the owner's, I'll tell you exactly who I am, and anyway, I'm a journalism student, so I have to take into account both sides of the story and be factual and as objective as possible. This should be good practice for me since this seems to be a pretty divided subject here.

First of all, I sincerely apologize for any imperfections or bad conditions that anyone saw in our store. I can tell you that everyone who works there is putting an effort in to improve the conditions of our store, for both the customers and the animals. You'll find that it's cleaner and I'm sure that no one there will let a water bowl go empty ever again. Everyone there really does care about the animals, and I admit, mistakes were made, but we're all owning up to it. The truth is, there is no excuse for an empty water bowl, but people do make mistakes. What matters is that we all learned from it. It was a wake-up call. It won't happen again.

I wasn't hired to take care of the reptiles, but since this whole thing happened, I've been keeping my eye out on the displays. I must say, conditions weren't as bad as Tom said they were, but he was right about a few things, and now the store is striving for absolute perfection. As far as the quarantine room goes, it is not a public bathroom. Also, most of the quarantine animals are animals that have been brought in to us. The people at AE Pets have saved a lot of animals' lives. For example, there was a turtle that came in severely chewed up by a dog, and it received intensive care from our reptile guy. Now it is completely healthy, and probably one of the most active, happy animals in the store. You should see him eat his greens. It's the cutest thing ever.

Shannon does care a lot about the well-being of animals, as opposed to money. Actually he's a pretty terrible businessman. When people bring in puppies, instead of selling them he gives them away with the purchase of a couple bags of premium dog food so he knows the dog will be taken care of. Instead he could sell the dog for a profit along with some crappy dog food he'd make more money on, but he honestly cares a lot.

I would never work for people that were abusing animals. I care deeply about the well-being of animals. I refuse to buy products tested on animals, despite cruelty-free products being more expensive, I take care of my own pets, I've done a ton of volunteer work at the animal shelter, and I would have no respect for anyone that mistreated animals intentionally. The collared lizard was indeed brought to the store in the condition it was in. That wasn't a lie. The store takes in animals often. I'm apologizing for the shop as much as I'm defending it. It's a shame that the water bowl was empty; we're all ashamed that that happened. I have no idea why that was the case. It usually isn't. There's still no excuse, but like I said, I doubt any employees will let that happen again.

A mistake happened, and we're all sorry for it, even if other people won't admit it on here because they're stubborn. All I have to really say is that the store has learned from this mistake. Just to clarify, I'm not picking sides here. I agree and disagree with both sides. The animals shouldn't be neglected, and they certainly won't be from here on out. You're all welcome to come in and make sure we're doing a good job. If you see anything that needs to be fixed, I'll gladly make a note of it and fix it if I'm working there at the time. If not, the other employees are always open for suggestions too. We truly want the store to be as great a place as possible for our animals, and I think you'd be happy with the changes that have been made.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Like I said, I don't know much about reptiles at all, but I'll answer anything to the best of my abilities.

Sadly, in situations like this, the first quote pretty much precludes any chance of the second quote happening.

This is my one real gripe about this thread: Only one picture, Tom!? While I don't have any reason to doubt you; not further documenting the condition the other enclosures were in wasn't a very good move. A more thorough expose' could have removed a whole lot of plausible deniability.

I really messed up there! But I promise this... Had I done that, woah! There'd have been no coming back for this kiddos! Somebody owes me an Egg McMuffin for slippin' up on that note! AE got a gift from me on that one!

But... In all honesty! You stare at that pic long enough. You shouldn't even wanna see what else was seen that day! IMHO there...

'Twas a gift that I did that! :)

I promise!

I am glad to see you are not offering excuses as to why the water dish was empty, like Shannon and others were, and I hope what you say about changes being made is true.
My question for you would be: Even if you were not hired to do reptiles, and are no expert, is there any reason you would have not seen a dry water bowl and questioned it? even cashiers look at the animals from time to time; it is part of being familiar with what you are ringing up.

Also, nobody else has "owned up" to the mistakes that were made. If Shannon was less stubborn and offered solutions instead of excuses he would have helped his credibility a lot. now, he has a black mark that will not wash off.

Part of my cynical attitude is based on what I have seen over and over again. I hope the changes for the better are not short lived; until then, well we will see how it all plays out. I still cannot support any place that makes excuses for such neglect, even after the problem has been fixed; at best I will be happy the problem was fixed.

Sometimes for a big change to be made a fire has to be lit under some a:censored:es; Thank you Tom for lighting this fire.

Those who care about animals with a passion will come down hard and fast on any sub-standard situation and will not let up until the problem is fixed... long term.

There's a start...

Why do you guys try to downplay what I really saw there?
The downplay game is how this usually goes.
The broken record: seen it over and over...

I really messed up there! But I promise this... Had I done that, woah! There'd have been no coming back for this kiddos!

Personally, if conditions were that bad (not doubting, just being fair) it is better to go for the full kill

Change of heart... I was wrong! That first picture is wonderful! It's all my fault! I'm so sorry everybody, I should have just started working for free that day.

I can see it all now much more clearly! IT WAS MY FAULT, for not snapping photos til I was escorted out by Police, or beat down by big bad Shannon...

I mean, I get it now! I'm offering my services for free because of it. I'm sorry for this, I'm a little slow! Dropped a few times at birth... My bad, disregard this post. Rich, please delete it! Lol.

ITS TOMS FAULT! I own it! What should I do? How much do I put on the check, and where do I send it? I understand there's a lawsuit hunting me down now for this! :)

I'm really freaking out now you guys! I AM SO SORRY THAT I DID THAT TO THE COLLARD! I CAN'T believe I let him go out like that, I mean... That picture isn't that bad, right?

I'm starting a BG thread on me in fifteen minutes! Don't try and stop me! ;)

I'm usually just behind the cash register. I'm rarely on that side of the store. I didn't see that dry water bowl, otherwise I would have filled it up, just like any employee would have. I do fill up empty water bowls when I see them. We all do. It just must have been accidentally missed, which is awful, but that won't happen anymore.

Also, nobody else has "owned up" to the mistakes that were made. If Shannon was less stubborn and offered solutions instead of excuses he would have helped his credibility a lot. now, he has a black mark that will not wash off.
Shannon has offered solutions. He just hasn't posted them on here. But when he found out about this thread, he and the other employees immediately inspected and cleaned up the displays thoroughly.

Oh, one more thing. Any native species in the store were not for sale. There was a clear "Not For Sale" sign written on any displays they were in. As long as I've been working there (I worked there a year ago as well), I've never known him to sell a single native species.

Brandi, I think it's time to give Tom his meds.

;)

I'm a real character! I love all you guys and gals... Even the bad ones! ALL I EVER WANTED TO HEAR WAS... "Dangit... You caught me slippin' and it's fixed!"

Instead it's tapdancing, threatening and intimidation... Defamation of character and a lawsuit. Come up there and get my a$$ kicked, you'd kill me if I came in there again, bla bla.

And my new favorite! "That pic isn't bad enough, do you have more?" I'm battling my third burnout in 30yrs of keeping because of this exact stuff right here.

It's real funny... They come in ten year blocks for me. The last time was 10/12/15yrs ago on a/my collection getting ripped off! :(

A few of you really made me proud, you know who you are, and a couple of you have me in tears! And... Now... I want to quit! So I don't have to read all the scamming anymore, and see all the death, destruction and carnage.

FINAL POST!

Have fun! Look for Tom's bad guy post on himself for lack of photos! (I'm laffing and being fecitious, of course!)

(I'm gone... Unless a genuine question comes up for me!)

LIE AGAIN! There was no sign at all!

I gotta go!

It was a wake-up call. It won't happen again.

My wife and I walked in there about 3 years ago and cages were multiple poops worth of dirty. watering had not happened for most. all of the water bowls had "refill" rings and no one was working on anything.

Emily, I believe you believe in what you are saying.

I'm sure Tom or one of his buddies will check the place out in the future. I hope for the best, but fear the worst.

Well, I suppose it depends on your definition of a sign. Did we have a big wooden sign drilled into the ground that said "NO NATIVE SPECIES FOR SALE?" No. But on every display with a native animal was written, in marker, "NOT FOR SALE" or "NFS." I can show you pictures. I'm only giving facts. That's the only way this situation can be properly taken care of.

Well I been away from the internet for a lil while so forgive the late response Tom how dare you post such graphic violence on FB! WOW now who could have pulled a move like that? SMH Couldn't be anybody who has been trying to attack you and sweep this up... Poor care is one thing but posting such graphic violence that's the unforgivable sin there. Totally made me forget about sick animals and empty water dishes...

To do what? Watch the "poor" animal in the store, complain about it online pretending that 6'2", 200 pounds of you is going to go to the store and do something in an act of redemption, but actually only call the store?

I have been extremely busy with school so I couldn't post on here for the last few days. I really didn't want to reply to this but I just want to clarify one thing. I am 6'1 not 6'2 :NoNo: Lol on a serious note, I did not threaten anyone on my post. Believe me, if I lived closer, I would definitely be assisting Tom with visits to the store or contacting agencies. Although the owner of this store has already proved that he's not all there (threatening Tom), I definitely would not risk my career over Shannon Long.

Aaaanyways, Tom, I have a lot of respect for all the work you've been putting into this. You're an A++++ guy!
