In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well, apparently we have exceeded an internal limit on the number of attachment files that the database can hold. So right now anyone attempting to attach a file (photo, etc.) to their post will get a database error message.

Looking into this now. I may have to offload the images from the database table to a separate file folder on the server to bypass this limit.

But for now, please bear this in mind. It will especially impact those people wanting to attach images for the classified ads.

Just another day in paradise around here.....

Well, that explains it. For the last hour I have been trying to load a screen shot into a BOI thread and it won't load. I have even taken it into Photoshop and resized it to where it should load with no problems. I wanted to load it that way so it would be there in years to come rather then host it somewhere else and put it up that way. I may delete it down the road sometime and then it would not appear in the thread. Anyway, hopefully it will get fixed soon. Thanks for the info, Rich. I was thinking I was doing something wrong.

Thanks for the heads up! Perhaps it would be more convenient if people used Photobucket or a similar service for now?

I agree, its best to use outside image hosting while posting misc pics (like in the hell forum :dgrin:)...that way facetious pics aren't taking up any space. As far as the classifieds though, I think that unless the image is an attachment there will be no thumbnail displayed next to the ad.

Well, I just talked with my programmer and this might be a deeper problem then I thought. He asked me if I had a backup of the database, because there appears to be some corruption that likely took place during the last server move. Of course, the problem with backups is that you really don't know if they are any good till you REALLY need them.

Not sure when he is going to start working on this, but expect some downtime. Maybe some substantial downtime. And cross your fingers...... :shrug01:

Well, things are looking pretty sticky with this problem. My programmer says that somehow the system was spreading the attachments among the database table and a folder. He didn't think it could do that, and doesn;t know how it happened, much less why it worked for a while like that. But fixing it may be a problem.

Compounding the problem is that my server admin did NOT set up the backup drive that was supposed to be taking backups of all the sites on the server every day. So it appears that the folder that contained some of those attachments may be gone and unrecoverable. No telling which ones might have been in there. Probably won't know till the dust settles. I know all the posts are saved, as I have taken it upon myself to run my own backup routine every night and then save those files to my local drive.

Expect some down time without warning and no idea of the duration. I hope my programmer isn't going to be charging me by the hour on this one...... :ack2:

Ooph, good luck! I know how bad server problems can be.

I was wondering why I couldn't get pictures to load on the page. Thought there was something wrong on my end lol.

Is this problem fixed yet? Still unable to see attachments in threads on my end of things. Just doing a double check to see if it's something on my end or on the sites end.

Thanks Rich.

Nope. Some attachments may be lost. I have my programmer and the guy who helped me out with that DDoS problem a while back looking into it.

But don't be surprised if some attached photos are just gone when this is over and done with. I would imagine that my programmer disabled the ability to attach files for the duration to keep from making the water even muddier.

Now, where's that case of Excedrin.......

What about putting something in place that automatically deletes ads after say 30 days or something that way it cuts down on somethings on the server. You can go back and find ads from many years ago and I don't know it might help or might not I don't know. Just a thought

Even if you set it to delete after 90 days, the ads could do their jobs, and all the OLD ones would be gone.

This explains why alot of the pics in 'hell' are red x's

Hopefully you'll get it worked out with minimal frustrations.

Yes, delteing very old adds makes sense. I for one get tired of seeing an add for something I am interested in , only to find out that its an add form 4 years ago that someone resurrected without noticing date!

If they delete the old ads then the trader ratings won't link up to the ad it was giving feedback for, at least that's the only reason I could see for keeping them... just playing devil's advocate. :)
