Attributes

If someone you knew was describing the kind of person you are to someone else, what sorts of attributes would you want them to name?

I think my friends would describe me as someone that's a good friend. I'm always around to hear them out and help them with their problems ahead of my own. Anytime they need me, I'll be there no matter what time it is or how far I'd have to drive. When a friend needed money, I gave them all I had.. I do apartment hunting, helping them find jobs, whatever people need to stay happy.

I had a friend take advantage of my "good friendship" several times... and it was the last straw - I stopped contacting her and even to this day, she sends me notes or text messages saying she know realizes how wrong she was because she misses me as a person, a friend, and someone to confide in - she said she realized what a good friend I really was to her.

I'm slowly coming around coz I still wanna be a good friend 2 her - it's just with this one, I'm kinda keeping my guard up.

I chose: a person of integrity (I try), knowledgable, funny, a good parent, a good friend, and someone they trust.

The other stuff isn't as important to me.

I chose good parent among other things... because I hope, in ten or twenty years, my stepdaughter will realize that our disciplinary actions for her latest debacle were all in her best interest. (and to keep her from going to jail, and US from going to jail too!)

I try to live my life so that the sum of ME, at the end of the line, is more full of the positives to outweigh the negative aspects of my topsy turvy personality.

There will be some who cannot answer such a question since the act of being truly humble precludes one from speaking of ones attributes.

That would be true if I had asked for a list of attributes one has, but it is not quite the same to ask about what one hopes others see.

The first is a catalogue of what one thinks of oneself, a self portrait; but what I asked is a recognition by others of what one has done with one's life.

For instance, Wes, it might be hubris for you to announce that you are a good parent; but knowing how seriously you take your responsibilities, and the time you pour into parenting, it is quite different if I am the one recognizing your excellence as a father.

And, of course, as in most of my polls there is an element of humor, few people will actually want to be painted a scuzzy slimeball although we all know there are several of those in the industry. (Most of them do not seem to visit The Welcome Club, and perhaps that is for the best).

Hubris and Humble are VERY different and while I can claim to have been guilty of one, the other, by its definition, is not mine. I'll leave it to you to decide which is which.

This is not about me though as I have little concern for what others think, I just wanted to make you aware that some folks, NOT me, simply cannot reply and keep humbility as their own if they speak of themselves in the way this thread requests.

As usual my take is slightly to the side of what most might think.

I do not want to sidetrack this thread so I'll just leave it as it is.
