In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Wanted to ask something real quick. I was thinking about putting one of my animals for sale as an auction. Is this allowed?

I will delete the current 'for sale' ad and make a new ad. The ad will start at the extreme lowest I am willing to take and whoever has the highest bid will get the snake. All bids will have to be placed ON THE AD so its visible to everyone.

Please let me know if I'm allowed to do this. Thanks.

Actually there is very little difference between making the statement "best offer" within the ad, and having the sale held as an auction. So no, I don't have any problems with it.

Ahhhh darn I wanted to do something like that with my dragons and send the money to Rich but I was told not to that it wasn't allowed and it would cause problems hummm..

Well good to know..

Amanda

Thanks Dean and yeah when I had like 60 dragons I was going to do that and send/donate the money to him for the site, but was told that I can't and now all the dragons are gone!

I dont know who told you that but maybe they just misunderstood. I am pretty sure that auctions have been discussed in a previous thread as well because there have been quite a few "sales" auctions that didnt benefit the site nor a particular party as well recently.

Wow, I started a good thread lol :yesnod:

Rich, thanks for your prompt response. I had noticed the 'Donation' autions a little while back but havent seen personal auctions go up so I was unsure if that was ok or not. I personally believe there should be rules though.

BIG Rule #1 being, you need to start the auction at a reasonable price.
We dont want all these auctions popping up every second because someone wanted to start their snake off at $0.01 you know what I mean?

Maybe there should be rules attached to personal auctions or a seperate room eventually? I believe many people would be interested in the idea and as I notice now I think more people have thought about the idea but never actually did it or asked about it.

Yaz, I agree with most of what you are stating however, I dont think a starting bid amount would be necessary. I do think that they should be run without a reserve though since there is no way to set a reserve price.

My concern with auctions is that, normally, auctions are generally an "as-is" sale with no warranty or guarantee implied. I think dealing with live animals, we should have a generalized TOS as to what we can expect as a buyer as well as being a seller.

Just my .02

Just remember that this will be between the seller and the buyer, and management here has no intention of getting involved. Auctions tend to be more of a headache than straight out sales tend to be (I ran FaunaAuctions a while back....... :ack2: ), so you all have to understand that if problems crop up, you will have to deal with them yourself as best you can.

Dean (sorry missed your post), I'm still containing the same info/gurantee as my normal 'sale' ads. I did set a start price just because I'm not letting him go for less than what my ultimate lowest is (which is my start price), you know what I mean?

I listed all the details in my ad for everyone to see. I also stated if anyone had any specific questions to ask me as well.

Well, that is what I mean by a reserve Yaz. You set the min bid as your reserve so the snake will sell without a "hidden" reserve.

I totally agree Rich. It would be a headache for you as well as everyone else concerned if Fauna had to get involved in any way whatsoever. However, I do think that some sort of post or thread with some guidelines stating rules or disclaimers would be a good idea.

I would still include your TOS in your auction.. for example.. Guaranteed Live arrival for however long after they arrive.. you guarantee that the person will be satisfied with the animal and so forth and so on!! :) Just my .02

I agree and that is why I suggest it. Most auctions as well as auction houses are an "as-is" sale. I will always use my TOS unless I would be forced to use something with a higher standard. I think, for the most part, mine would supercede anything imposed on me as I really try to stand behind what I sell.

Being in an industry where every customer complains even if you are the best has taught me a few things about servicing your customers (wireless sales). All I can do is make whom I sell my product to happy and aware.

The nice thing is that I can absolutely choose whom I sell to if I am not doing auction sales though so I may not partake in selling this way. I do think it is a good option for us as Fauna Classifieds users to have though.;)

Agreed. I did include all my info/gurantees etc. with my auction. I thought it would be interesting doing it this way instead of just selling him (which I had a previous ad for him at $1000 + shipping). Now hes $650 starting bid. We'll see how it goes. He's a great snake and any buyer will be more than satisfied with him.

Dean, that adult albino you missed out on is doing well and the buyer is more than happy; you know you want my coral sunglow  dont miss out!

Sorry, but no. I don't intend (at least at this time) of getting involved to the level where I have to make rules and guidelines. If I do so, then I have to enforce them. I would suggest that everyone engaging in posting an auction CLEARLY state their own rules and guidelines for their auction. That way if there is any confusion or problems, that will be of your own doing, and not because of me nor this site.

Of course, the general rules for this site DO apply to the auctions, but beyond that, you are on your own with this. I really don't want people coming to me with complaints that they won an auction and the seller won't sell to them, or a buyer won't send payment when he or she said he would.

That's completely Understandable Rich.. I can see where this may get out of hand but hopefully it will work for the few who try it :) I would rather just put OBO in my ad that way I have the choice whether I want to sell to that person or not :)

Whoever places an ad for an auction should note that it has nothing to do with the Fauna Staff and any problems or questions need to go through the OP who listed the auction!!
