In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

A question I am curious how everyone else is doing this. After your babies are hatched how many do you put together? For how long do you keep them together before you separate?

We had one tank of ten babies - one little guy/girl has become very aggressive to the others. We have sat and watched for hours trying to find him/her no luck. When our backs are turned for ten minutes - one gets hurt. We remove the hurt one and watch again. We are down to 4 in this tank and no problems for a few days. My other tanks of babies - fine. Everyone happy and playing nicely. Open to suggestions and experiences.

Hi Deb...that's a question that everyone will have a different opinion about. You don't want to crowd,so I keep in large plastic bins and I can get an entire clutch of about 25 in one of the 38-40 gallon for a short time with no problems. Some of my clutches are much bigger,in the 30's so they are put 16-18 per cage. Of course,as they grow they are separated. You can never really tell why one or two start to nip...every breeder will eventually get some. If you haven't,your turn is coming. This even goes for persons that only keep 4-5 babies per tank.Being diligent about feeding is important...don't wait to feed crix in the afternoon...you will be SURE to have nips as the babies will be voracious by then.I give greens AND crix within30- 45 min of turning on the lights...don't wait much lomger. And feed 2-3 times a day. Leave lots of greens in the cage ,too. But,if you get a nipper or two, they seem to keep that habit.

When I bred, I had a total of 21 babies that hatched and I kept 5 per 20 gal tank/bin. I had a couple that were very dominant after about 3 weeks and I wound up just giving them their own bin for the remaining couple of weeks that I had them. Even though food was always offered in excess to them, there will always be a chance of them fighting.

My suggestions are to make sure you have plenty of food including greens offered to them all the time so that they are full and to always move them accordingly (taking submissive ones out of tanks with more dominant ones etc)
