    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How much do I give my new little hatchling to eat?He did not absorb the yolk sac it came off.I had him on moist papertowels and it still came off.So i am thinking he does need to eat.But how many small mealworms is enough?Once he starts eating how many he should he generally eat?just an idea of what is enough /not enough/ too much.He has a calcium dish and water....when should I give him a dish of vitamins and then how often should I give him vitamins?
Thank you all for your help.I've never had a baby this little before And i want to make sure I do everything right for him.

Robin, I work my way up from six small mealworms a day. As for supplements, I add multivitamin once a week to my daily calcium dusting.
 
i just bought my new baby leo in the states on saturday the 8th i think?
anyways i live in canada, so we took it accross the border with us. it was a good 12 hour car drive and at the end of it he was exausted. (im not sure why?)
that night when i was sleeping my dad looked at my leo and he was doing much better. but he forgot to put the lid back on and my CAT maggie jumped into the cage (i think) and draged him out onto the floor my dad ran in and pushed the cat away from him, but she tore the skin open in three places ( though not very big), he also has some blood around his legs and made him lose his tail (which was bleeding, is this normal?).
he seems to be fine with his wounds at the moment, but i was wondering if there was anything i could do for him.
also he seems to be having trouble shedding, is there anyway i could help him?

Robin, it looks like it did absorb quite a bit of it's yolk. They look really skinny and caved in when they don't. Wait until it's first shed to feed it... in about 3 days.

Also, Melissa... why don't you post your problem/question in a new thread so folks can read it and comment? I'm sorry about what happened to your new gecko...
 
I wait until the first shed as well, if I see the shed starting I go ahead and put the smal mealies in a dish with calcium that way the baby can have them as soon as it is ready. I put about 10 of the smalls and theere are always a few left at first, then wehn I see that there are none left in the am, I put 15 and move it up each time the dish is empty by the am.

Melissa, take him to the vet, post pics if you can, it may sound worse than it is but to me a vet visit is in order.

thanks for the feed back, my mom dosent really like lizards so she says that she wont pay for the vet bill. :(

I hope no one takes this the wrong way.....In my opinion if Mom and Dad allowed you to get a lizard they should be willing to help you take care of it....It is not your fault the lizard got hurt.But my biggest complaint witha lot of parents is that they will go out and buy their kids these lizardsLeos or any other kind for that matter but they refuse to own up to the responsibility of having a reptile...that includes Vet visits.How do they expect their children to learn responsibility when they are setting such a bad example.
Melissa this is not aimed at you.I feel bad for you because it is apparent you want to help you leo but are not being allowed to do so.

Now as for the cuts.Because you cannot get to a vet I think the best thing you can do Is get some Neosporin and with a q-tip apply it to his cuts and tail .It is normal for them to bleed some after losing a tail...If it is excessive let me know and we will go from there wht needs to be done.

while i was at the pet store i talked to some1 about his cuts and he said to use polysporn, is there a big difference?
and all the bleeding has stoped, but he wont eat. weve offered him mealworms, becuz the pet stores are all out of crickets but he dosent seem interested in them.
 
Melissa, looks like your pics aren't working because you are trying to link them off your hard drive rather than off a server on the net. Pics only work here if they exist somewhere on the net already.

I had a Fat Tail drop his tail a while back and I used polysporin, seemed to work fine.

Couple of questions? What are your temps like in its tank? What substrate do you have him on? Do you have ample hides for him to hang out in? I have found with my Fat Tail he desired even more privacy than ever when he was in the process of healing.

Be sure to keep offering plenty of food to him. With his dropped tail he lost all the fat reserves he had built up, and the healing process will draw even more out of him. If he keeps refusing to eat you can use pedialite to get him going. You can also try taking a mealie and squishing it, dab a little of the insides on his nose, it might serve to spark its appetite.

Now... I gotta say, your Mom is a perfect example of what NOT to do as a parent. If she wasn't prepared to help you with your animal she should never have allowed you to get it in the first place. Its commendable that you are here trying to figure out what to do to help your pet, but when I read your Mom didn't like lizards and thus wouldn't pay for a vet bill I shivered. Its a living animal.

Good luck with him and I hope it all works out, and please, tell your Dad to be more careful with the lid!!
 
right now his temps are from 86-94 degres F, and im using paper towel, for a hide i only have a toilet paper tube which i cut in half to make a bridge shealter.
 
is that on the hot side? He needs a cool side as well... also, one hide really isn't enough, he needs one on the cool side and one on the warm side. One should be a humid hide as well, using something like peat moss as the substrate in there. If you are stuck for it, you can use a butter container with an entrance hole cut into it and some damp paper towel.
 
i added another hide in his cage, and its 94 degres F on the hot side and 86-89 degres F on the cool side.
i tried puting the damp paper towel in but it just got cold really fast, so i took it out
 
he is doing much better, he has eaten 2 crickets, and is rite now sleeping, i could hear him moving around in his cage last night and his tail is growing back well.
the only thing im still worried about is his open cuts.
 
have you tried the polysporin? Cuts usually heal fairly quickly on leos in my experience. I had a female who got into a tussle with my male during breeding and had a couple of scratchs on her, they healed really fast and by the time she shed they were gone....
