In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Ok so i am 17 Have my own snakes where i live with my mom, and my dad has his own ( I moved out of his house about a month ago). He is not good at taking care of snakes at at all. But i cant tell him that or wow does he flip. Anyway, he bought me beautiful baby pied last year and about a month before i moved in with my mother, it got mites. Ok no problem he will treat it right? Wrong. I cam over the past few days and the poor girl is covered in Mites and when i say covered in mean i pick her up and there i hundreds on my hand. its bad. Its the only snake that has them, and i dont wanna see the poor thing suffer with all of them when he isnt doing anything about them. What should i do ? Should i just take the snake? Or try to talk to him about it which i have tried already and he just denies everything and tells me that im a smartass and do i think im the only one that knows things about snakes, when clearly all of mine are doing great, and fine. Like im far from an expert but i know he cleary is letting the poor thing suffer and he should not be taking care of it... what should i do guys?

If I were you I would take ownership of the pied. It is yours right?

However, I would be very cautious about bringing him to your mom's place. Ideally you should take the pied to the vet to treat the mites. Of course there are home remedies as well.... I would just have a really good game plan for treating the mites and for quarantine before risking the rest of my collection. Is there a friend or relative that doesn't have reptiles that would be cool with you treating the snake at their place?

Just my thoughts.... Good luck Aaron

Tell your dad you like the snake and want to take it home since it's yours, which isn't a lie - you do like the snake, right?

Once it's in the car apply Reptile Relief or some other mite treatment that's safe to use on snakes. The goal is to kill off as many mites as you can before the snake enters your house.

Once in the house it should go into a quarantine tub or tank that has been pre-treated as directed with Provent-A-Mite (PAM), and use treated paper towels as substrate. For the next month every time you have to change the paper towels pre-treat the new ones with PAM.

Unfortunately from what you've said and what I've inferred, I think the hardest part of this whole mess will be convincing your dad to let you take your snake home.

What you could do is treat the snake without your dad knowing:

1. get something that can kill mites on the snake directly (petco or petsmart should have something) and also get Goodnight Bed Bug spray, this you get at Lowe's or Home Depot. Get lots of paper towels.

2. make your way into your dads house and when the time is right, get to the snake.

3. Take the snake out and put into another container, and then immediately throw away substrate and spray the container with Goodnight Bed bug spray (a light coat should do just fine), it doesn't need to look pretty since your trying not to let your dad know and doing this quickly.

4. While the spray in the snakes original tub is setting and drying a bit, wipe down the snake to with the spray from Petco or Petsmart to kill any obvious mites. When your done with the snake, clean your hands as best as you can with some paper towels and fill the original container with some fresh substrate and put little snake back in. Spray around the snakes container with the Bed Bug spray, and also spray the trash can that you used to dispose of the old substrate, then spray the container that held the snake.

5. Leave! Your done! Check on the snake when you can and do the same treatment a week or so later if you can. Disappear into the shadows like the ninja you know you are.

You can give it a bath with nix lice shampoo or bedodine and rub the whole snake down in olive oil but keep away from the head they will suffocate and die and her skin will be nice and shiny works like magic the mites will be gone

If he is in that much denial about how poorly he takes care of his snakes then you need to find a way to take possession of all of them if you can. The pied that has mites need to be quarantined. We use a mixture of permethrin 10 that we bought at TSC. We mix 3/4 ounce of permethrin to 1 gallon of water and its safe enough to spray all in their cage and on them (just cover their face). Dont spray it in their water bowl take it out and leave it out over night they will be fine with no water for one night. Now it might take several treatments for the snake. We had a bad outbreak from a trade gone wrong and thats the only thing that worked for us. Goodluck man!
