In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Backwater Reptiles

I have used them twice and it was a mix of bad and good. The First time I ordered an Caiman, and I pretty much got exactly what I ordered when it was promised. Animal was sold as WC with a few scar issues and so forth, so no surprises at all. Second time I ordered an Retic, and they did not have them in stock and after about an week and a half of waiting for it, I cancelled the ordered. No biggie, refund was on time. But I did find it to be in poor taste to advertise on KS that you did not actually have in stock, nor did the proxies he uses. I will say this though, he answers all emails promptly, so that is a plus. I just recommand checking first to see if he actually has what your wanting before blindly buying it, as I did.

I have ordered a few turtles from them. They do ship pretty fast and well packaged. Donot ever under any circumstance place a large order. They will screw that up send you all kinds of random stuff you did not order and promise a refund you will never see.

Some of the reptiles I have recieved were less than a few weeks old and had to be treated the same as if I had hatched them myself. I personally never seller a reptile striaght out of the egg with getting it on a stable diet first. To each his own I guess.

The good is they have actually gotten pretty good at sexing musk turtles. I bought a trio of razor backs and they have done good and produced 3 fertile eggs just last month.

Hello, I'm new here... I just wanted to mention that I did indeed order 2 Red-Tailed Green Racers from them a week ago. They both arrived fine, but within hours the larger one had to be taken to the vet to be euthanized.

Dr. Bethany Whetstone, my preferred veterinarian at the Parker Animal Clinic here in Plano, can explain how poor her condition was. She arrived with a severe infection, with about an half inch long by half inch thick of flesh rotted out directly below the cloaca. She was nearly septic by the time I brought her in, and Dr. Whetstone did confirm that she had been that way for no less than 3 days, meaning before they sent it.

The second snake arrived with a slight bubbly problem, which from what I read could be associated with Asian arboreal's aggression, but by the time I realized it was really a Respiratory Infection, the vet was closed. I could not get him in until Tuesday afternoon. The veterinarian this time was a highly reputable exotic vet named Dr. Greg Moore, who has been trusted with the most extreme exotic and avian of surgeries in the DFW area. This one as well was put down due to extreme Pneumonia.

So far I have only received refunds for the first snake, and ever since I mentioned the second one being sick they have not responded. This was highly stressful for me, and though both vets were exceptionally kind enough to wave all costs for euthanization etc, I atleast want the refund for the second snake. Which isn't asking a lot, seeing as I paid $40 just to go through this trauma. I recently purchased a female Gonyosoma oxycephalum from a different supplier, Underground Reptiles, with amazingly good results. She eats well and hasn't been a problem.

I just want to help prevent people from doing business from people that can't even think enough not to send out animals this sick, let alone let them get in this condition. Below are the arrival video and pictures.

All efforts to contact Backwater via email have been left unanswered. Earlier today I filed a form with Visa in an attempt to get my refund. Let's hope this goes well.

ahhh thank god for the BOI and people like you that can warn the unsuspecting buyer. I was about to place a small order for Dubais with them. I only got one savannah and wanted to keep a small colony around for him. But i then hear Dubais are illegal in florida....so i asked if it was alright to ship to me here in florida. Thought maybe you can still ship WITHIN florida. Dont know about all that but if anyone know of a dubai dealer in florida let me know. Another good warning ladies and gents....thank you.

Absolutely disgusting, flipping is no way to make a living with live animals.

Also, they finally emailed me back after I reported the issue to Visa. They wanted pictures, so I sent one of him having troubles breathing and one of his frozen corpse. No reply so far =/

Woo! Finally got reimbursed my money, after Visa went out and got it for me.

So yesterday I received an e-mail from Backwater Reptiles about the dispute claim I was forced to make with the bank after they refused to respond to my attempts at communication. If you don't know the trouble I had with them, I received two very sickly red-tail green rat snakes on the verge of death. The female died the same day I received her by severe infection, near septic by the time we put her down, and the male by severe pneumonia that was suffocating him within a week. I gave them both vet names and locations to contact, a Dr. Whetstone at Parker Animal Clinic and a favorite Dr. Moore of Southlake Animal Hospital. They refunded the first amount but not the amount for the male, and I was forced to notify the bank after they would not respond. Now Sam, the business owner I'm guessing, is upset that for some reason he's been forced to pay the refund. This is a few months after it's happened. DO NOT purchase with Backwater.

Hey Beth:

Thanks for the heads-up and the supporting info. It is also pretty telling that the seller never even bothered to respond to any of your messages, until they had to repay the $.

Glad we have a forum like this!

Bill

Okay, update on what's going on. They appear to think I'm stealing from them and that they're reporting me to a debt collection agency. WHAT? A college student looking for a pair of healthy pets is being reported to a debt collection agency, which affects credit rating, because she wants a refund for being sent two snakes rotting from the inside out? Really?

I don't even know any more. What's wrong with these people that they end up in messes every time their name comes up?
