In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Backwater Reptiles

Look- The thread is over. the OP seems to be happy with his refund. Lets all hope the snake isn't as bad as she thinks. Blood pythons are very very tricky. Even Captive bloods. Sensitive to many things. I am moving on, glad the refund was given and glad Backwater stood behind there product. ..

I went through the BOI and looked at threads from other big dealers and, yes, they have their complaints, but they have many more Good guy threads and many of their Bad guy threads were shown not to be deserved. Backwater's record goes back 2 years, all Bad guy threads! All from sending out animals in bad shape. I see a pattern! They deserve this Bad guy thread!

Apparently fauna needs a support group then, for all of us living in a unicorn infested dream world. Seems to me like there may be others who believe that a seller should only ship what he would be satisfied with receiving, which as history and the BOI prove ... Backwater doesn't.

And Pred, things DO happen for many reasons. As for this case, that reason is Backwater's unethical practices. That blood shouldn't have shipped. Period. And then excusing the matter as an accident due to Backwater's volume of sales, that's just juvenile. Almost as juvenile as Backwater trying to claim "a competitor" was making false claims on their other Bad Guy posts.

I'm thoroughly happy the OP had enough sense to not ship the snake back. Sounds like its getting good medical attention and care, and not "falling through the cracks".

Predators, maybe it is you that does not understand. Unless they already have these snakes pre-bagged (if this is the case then there is a much bigger problem) then someone had to see the issues on the snake. This being said, they still sent out a sick animal. There is no excuse for this. Even if the person packaging the animals is new. Get someone else. You are the one that seems to live in a make believe world or maybe you are just so rich that you dont care if you spend 75, 100 or even 10000$ on an animal that if it comes in sick it is ok. For the rest of us who don't have a ton of money to throw away when I buy an animal from a store or online business I DO expect that this animal is 100% healthy. If not then there is no reason AT ALL EVER for it to be mailed to someone. These are not pokemon cards or action figures, they are live animals and should be treated as such. You would not send a person with bronchitis and chicken pox in a little wooden box across the country would you? So why would you send an animal? Just because the OP is happy doesn't mean they did not screw up. All they did is make the situation a bit better. They still screwed up big and that will not be forgiven.

Exactly! I just get the feeling that some companies have this, "I'll send out whatever crap I have in stock and I'll handle the 25% that actually complain afterward!" attitude. Actually was it ever settled whether or not they actually have stock or are drop shippers? If they are drop shippers, they need to find better suppliers. If not, they need to work on their own quality control.

Let us know how the RI works out. Good they gave you your money, almost nobody would do that.

I think the bottom line here is that animals are likely not cared for in an appropriate manner.

I would be careful of that animal around anything else in your collection.

Perhaps a different room across the house.

If it is wild caught, there is no telling what type of viruses it could have, and mites can transmit IBD (which is known).

Many viruses are not known/have not been described in snakes.

Gastro-intestinal helminths would be the least of your worries in this case.

Dr. Greek in Yorba Linda is awesome, and McDowall at Chapparal animal hospital is pretty good as well.

A lot of vets like ceftazidime, but hopefully the vet you are going to around here does a culture and sensitivity test because a lot of things that might be causing that R.I. are inherently resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics.

I'll check back to see how it goes.

Serious business about the quarantine.

Look- The thread is over.

You do not call the shots here. The thread is over when people stop posting. The thread may have very well died down after Backwater offered
the snake and refund which Jessica planned to use to help pay for treatment (Jessica, have you actually received the refund?)
But no, you kept on trying to make it seem as if shipping out a sick snake to a customer is no big deal. We ALL know better.

Yes he is in quarantine and we sanitize after going in the room he's in. I wanted to get a fecal done as well but she didn't eat last night (not surprising, only ate the first time after offering live.) but I will bring in a fecal exam the nex time she does go if its not before Friday. She's hardly moved at all out of the place she's been for the past three days. Ive left her alone ptherthen Offering food as i do not want to stress her put any more. I'll definitely report back here after the vet appointment.

Well the best of luck to you and your animal. So many people lose sight in the fact that while all this is happening the animal is usually suffering a lot. I wish (not sure if you name your animals) a fast and speedy recovery and that he/she never has to go though anything like this again.

Her name is Luna. And thank you. Fingers crossed she recovers. Just wish I was able to get a vet appointment sooner then Friday.

So Ty Parks in an above thread gets a pass for shipping a Sick tortoises and offering return shipping and a refund but, Backwater doesn't. Weird. Seems like Fantasy land to me :)

That has nothing to do with this thread. Sorry you don't agree with what I posted. We all get it, you love backwater. Good for you. Keep buying all you want, but don't get mad when you get a reptile with mites and RI and terrible shipping.

Well if you saw any proof in the other thread that the tortoise was sick I'd love to see it because the OP provided none. The snake in this thread looks terrible its a whole lot easier to miss mouth rot than a mite infested snake.

The BOI has always and forever will be this way. The masses love some (ben siegel, and others) and will always hate some. No matter what.. That's cool. The boi has solved many of problems so for that im cool with it..

I noticed that too, but I think the big difference is his record doesn't indicate there is a pattern of this sort of thing from Ty's company. I certainly won't buy from backwater at this time but if I were a turtle guy I might buy from Ty. He was very sincere and apologetic.

Lets keep this on track.

Jessica, keep us posted on Luna. Hold your head up and know that ethical and responsible breeders and sellers don't ship like that or send you heartaches.

You provided me enough proof that I'll never send Backwater a dime. That's what the BOI is all about.

Hmmm, maybe some don't think it is worth their time to give a different opinion on this thread.

Last night I typed up a long-winded post pointing out my opinion of how this transaction was handled and the different business models of dealers vs breeders.

While I found how this individual circumstance was resolved by Backwater to be satisfactory, I did find faults with the transaction. Also, I thought I did a pretty good job stating the differences between hobbyist/breeders propagating for quality vs quantity, I think I was pretty fair to Backwater in my post.

When I was done with it, I said to myself do I really even want to respond to this thread? In the end, I decided to trash it and not even bother.

This is why. I have no mandate to post my opinion on any thread. Usually I'm pretty good about taken one thread or one situation and giving my opinion on that singular issue but knowing what backwater has done on this site, I simply decided I had no desire to give any positive statement even if it was accompanied with criticism.

This upstanding member of this community that you have praised has (In my opinion) made up user names on this site to give himself positive reviews.

The same computer was used to make another user name to start a bogus BOI thread for a transaction that never existed in retaliation for another BOI post.

Backwater has threaten the owner of this site with legal action over posts he wanted deleted.

Backwater has made a lot of bogus claims about this site. Suggesting we delete threads if it targets someone we like.

In my opinion, he is a liar, has behaved unethical on this site and has threaten this site.

So, I just kept my opinion to myself. Oh well.
and will always hate some.
Usually there is a good reason why

It is true that some people, like Ben, have a good enough reputation here so people will tend to give them benefit of the doubt. It's also true, however, that many who started out that way have been called out when proof of bad behavior has surfaced. When the Ball python craze started, especially, there was a lot of guys who seemed good at first, but turned to lying and thievery when things got rough. This forum turned on them quickly and deservedly so. Glades Herp is a good example. They have been around for a very long time. As soon as stories of them being sent animals on credit then not paying for them surfaced, their standing here quickly changed

What you don't seem to get is that Backwater doesn't get a free pass because of their track record here, as Denis mentioned, and because sending out sick animals seems to be a pattern and not a one time mistake with them. Their business model is based on cheap prices instead of quality, which attracts the inexperienced and the bargain hunters a lot of the time. The thinking seems to be to send out animals regardless of their condition, count on the fact that most of these inexperienced people will not know to complain, then just straighten things out with the people like the OP who are more experienced and know to complain.

The sad thing is that people like Backwater, Underground, and Dan Scalaro who operate with questionable ethics will continue to stay in business because the BOI only reaches so many and some people who are aware of them will continue to do business with them until they are screwed personally. If anyone reads this and the other threads about Backwater and still wants to do business with them, all I can say is, "Good luck!"

To tell you the truth Lucille I thought about that minion thing myself and really wonder what the motives behind Predator's defense really are. If he had just joined, I would really be suspicious of another Sam false identity, but he's been here since 2009.

On our way to the vet and she looks worse. Not even sure if she will make it the bumps all over her body look worse, and the scales around them are raised up. Still has bubbles coming from her mouth. Here's pics I just took. I'll let y'all know what the vet says.
