Okay, I will say that this thread sounds fishy on the whole FBI/IRS thing. However, Veronica's description of how Jon Dvoretz of Next World Exotics does business. He only on very rare occasions has the animals in stock that he claims to have. And if you call about one thing he's posted, he will go into everything else he has available and try to push you on it. Nothing wrong with THAT per se, most business people will try to make that sale no matter what. However, if he is claiming to have something in stock in an ad, and he in fact doesn't, then that is wrong.
Now, everyone here who has read the threads posted before know that I and a good friend got ripped by Jon a couple years back, and for a fair amount of money, too, and that I am no fan of him. However, I would NEVER say that the FBI is out to get him over a couple of baby fat-tails. That is a wee bit overboard I would think just to make a bad guy post.
But I am definitely curious about a couple of things here that you said Theresa.
Who in here even HINTED that Jon was under investigation for drugs? Even Veronica who started this thread did not mention anything about drugs, only that the box ws considered "suspicious" by the carrier. Jumping to conclusions, or Freudian slip? And NO, I am not in anyway implying that Jon is trafficking drugs, but I am just curious why that was said when there was no insinuation that he was. The only things I know about Jon doing illegally in the animal trade was that he was selling primates and other exotic mammals and that some of the deals he did weren't exactly all about the law(he provided this info to me back when he and I were talking regularly). But I wouldn't think they'd be after him NOW for things that happened years ago.
I will look this up myself, but I highly doubt that a retail pet store would not be required to have any kind of pet dealer's license or permits. I do know for a fact that business license is required in NY state, outside of that I am not 100% sure. I am checking to see what else is required from some people up your way, but I find it very difficult to believe that there is no system to license retail pet stores.
I'm sorry Theresa, but apparently you know about this board and you say you've been doing business with Jon for some time, yet you didn't come to his defense in the other threads questioning how he's been doing business. Perhaps you just missed them, though. But I am just finding NOTHING kosher with this thread at all.

I can see posting to explain a concern about you feeling uncomfortable about shipping in winter months....but you should try calling the person you bought them from rather than telling the entire community that they are under investigation for DRUGS????

And as far as licenses...unless you are dealing with exotic mammals or endangered species, I know here in NY as Pet Store Owner, you need no special licensing.
