In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well, I answered one of her wanted ASF posts. I offered them at $10.00 each (high price, but, I just moved to this state, and that's what I have found them for and what I was told they go for).

She wasn't interested, that was fine. She seemed cool. We started chatting.

Then she said she had ratties she wanted to get rid of. She asked if I wanted to trade for a hairless (and I thought she was talking about mice, as I don't have any true hairless rats right now).

I told her I couldn't trade a true hairless mouse for a few rats. I am charging $100 for my true hairless and $75 for my hets or best offer and it wouldn't be a fair trade.

Apparently she meant rats. I didn't have what she wanted anyway as I have hardly any rats right now.

So she offered me the rats for free just to get them out of her house. She said money didn't matter, she just wants to stop feeding them.

I said cool, lets meet up this weekend.

So I texted her Saturday to find out what was going on. She said I could come by her house Sunday if I wanted to. I said sure. (I had to make a trip to her area Sunday anyway so It would work out). She said she would text me "after the game" (not sure what that meant).

Anyway, Sunday comes along. I take care of all the things I needed to, waiting for her text.

Finally, I got tired of waiting and texted her.

She then informed me she was not planning on giving them to me anymore, and she wanted to "recoop some money" (but I thought money wasn't a big deal).

I was a little upset, after all, I was waiting all day for her to text me, so I can get my errands done!!

She began to get nasty, and, well, the rest is history. I started ignoring her texts but she kept on harassing me.

Just an FIY for the BOI, since she's a user on here (as opposed to the first guy).

Here are the relevant parts of the chat from fauna, and the text messages.

I'll text her that there's a BOI. That's about it. My story is in writing

Granted the rats were free, I have NOTHING against changing your mind and wanting to sell them, BUT, waiting until the last minute to tell me, was very wrong. (She'll probably claim she decided last minute, but I JUST saw a craigslist ad with her phone number in it from EARLY today!!!!! I've attached it on the bottom)

SATURDAY

Here's the craigslist post indicating she decided to SELL them elsewhere this morning at around 9am. I didn't know about this until now.

Sorry, meant to say that maybe a deal went bad, but no money was exchanged, no deposits made and no real obligation to purchase other than a few messages. Buyers back out all the time.

I understand that, but, my time was wasted, and to me, time is money.

If I saw this about someone, and read the responses from the user noting rude responses, I wouldn't do future business with them. Just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to theirs :)

I don't do business with people with bad customer service, regardless of whether money was exchanged or not.

Backing out of a deal is one thing, I would have had no issues if she would have done that earlier (say around 9am when she decided to sell these rats). But making me wait around all day, when she knew I was waiting to hear from her, and she knew she wasn't going to give them to me anymore, that's not right IMHO.

So, every time someone contacts you and decides to not buy from you, you will post a bad guy thread? After all, you had to spend a few minutes replying and time is money.

Just yesterday, I spend half the day waiting on a buyer that never showed up and didn't contact me. After I contacted them, they said they changed their mind. I spent most of the day waiting at home, when I could have been doing something else. So what - I'm not going to post a bad guy thread because my time is more valuable than some buyer who changed their mind. That is part of being available and part of customer service.

Sometimes it works out, sometimes you waste your time. If you are going to be there for customers, you have to take the good with the bad.

my time was wasted, and to me, time is money.

Don't be so concerned about money, to sell anything you need to talk to people...sometimes many people. deals do not always result in a sale. people sometimes back out of deals.

Just chill, answer everyone's questions then I'm sure the sales will follow.

This is not a BOI worthy thread in my opinion.

Am I confused? I don't think she is upset about not selling anything, I think she is upset because she was told to come pick something up and that didn't happen... The "giver" (in this case) never ended up giving something. So she feel as though she waited around for this person, who made a deal with her, then got stiffed. She spent gas money and time to do this and ended up with nothing.

IMO this thread is what the BOI is for, especially seeing the attitude. I don't see this turning into a drama filled BOI that people seem to follow more.

So is this minor for a BOI? Yes. But is this a legit heads up?...I believe so.

I wasn't trying to sell anything.... I'm not sure why that keeps being brought up.

I was supposed to "buy" something (for zero dollars) and I was supposed to pick up tonight. Person was rude and nasty and didn't tell me they were going to back out, until *I* contacted them tonight which was when we were supposed to meet.

Even though they knew they had already decided not to meet with me as of 9am, I wasn't told until 530 pm after my whole day was wasted...

She was the "seller" I was the buyer...

If she was supposed to sell me one of her snakes, and backed out like this, and displayed this level of immaturity, then I'm sure it would be taken more seriously.

Think of it this way...

You contact a seller to buy a ball python...

You arrange pickup day and place

You buy a cage and supplies

Then you wait around all day for the seller to contact you. Then you contact the seller because its getting late and you've waited all day to pick up your ball python.

Seller tells you they decided to sell it to someone else at a higher price even though it was promised to you and you already got the setup for it, etc.

same thing.... I think both would be boi worthy

I think the BOI is here to expose those who are taking advantage of others. This post is simply a deal that never went through. No loss. No one got scammed. No one lost money. No one lost anything other than time. In other words, no big deal.

While it is similar it is still not quite the same. MANY people sell to the first person with money. I have seen many BOI's already of people who agreed to "pay when they got there" then when they get there, the person already sold said animal. It is usually written off as a "sorry, they paid me first".

In your situation here, I think the main point is that this WAS for free.
So IMO, you already paid. If the seller wanted $5 and you said you would pay when you got there, then they sold them to someone else...no big deal.
But in your case, the fact that she agreed to give them to you, then led you to wait and drive for nothing, I think helps you here.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I think the BOI is for anything that helps someone in the future.
This might help someone who was thinking of buying something from this person and didn't want their time to be wasted .

So, any time someone sends you an email saying they are interested in something you have to sell but do not follow through, it deserves a bad guy thread? After all, it took time (which is money) to reply. Which is the intent of this post.

If that is the case, this is going to be a very very busy forum with very petty issues. I look to this place to make sure someone is not going to rip me off. That is a lot different than what this thread is all about.

Don, she was NOT selling anything...

Not sure what your not getting here. If you don't think this is deserved that's your opinion, no problem. BUT you SHOULD know what is going on at least, IMO.

It doesn't matter, that is my point! If she sat around for a week waiting on a seller and didn't make the deal, then she didn't lose anything. That does not warrant a BOI thread. There was no deposit (because this was a freebee). There was no real deal. No one was trying to commit theft. No one was attempting to commit fraud. Why post a permanent post that hurts a seller when there was never a deal consummated?

Again, a matter of opinion. You think there was no deal because it was a freebee, I think it was a clear deal. Price doesn't matter in this case.

I know gas isn't cheap either...

While i agree this does not warrant a bad guy thread , an informational one it does . We all want to know who are more likely to waste a sellers or ect time . last min cancellations are a bad thing and we need to know of such people.

Great post! That is what I SHOULD have been saying. It belongs on the BOI regardless.
