I bought 5 eggs from someone local to me because they had to sell off what they had due to the apt management forcing her to. Long story short I got the eggs at about day 30 and they looked perfect. (These were my first eggs)
At day 50 I was curious so I cut one egg and found a very health baby snake inside. The hole I made was super tiny and I did not poke my finger in it or anything. The other 4 eggs I left alone. Last night I came home and one of those 4 eggs had pipped (day 58) so I cut the remaining three eggs. Within hours the snakes started poking their heads out and yawning and flicking their tongues and all looked well. This morning I check on them and 4 of the 5 snakes were mostly out of their eggs and dead. Their umbilical cords were knotted up badly, two around the body, one around the head, one just in a tight knot, and the snakes were limp and lifeless. The only hatchling that is still alive is the one I cut early, that one seems to be doing just fine with no tangling of the cord at all. What the heck are the odds of this happening? And what can I do to prevent it in the future? The really sad part is all of the babies (woma X normal) were woma.
Any input is good input, thanks.
