In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Badgering a seller

I agree with all of you. And I believe the reptile market prices crashing has to do with all these young flippers more so rather than the economy. Sure, the economy makes it harder to buy things you really don't need, but when people are hurting for money they always find a way to buy what then want, rather than what they need. I believe if we stand strong on our prices, it will help in the future. Too many people are too quick to take a lower price. I have been guilty of this as well, getting in too much of a hurry to make that extra buck to buy that new snake I am wanting for a project. We should take a stand!

My thoughts are if they can get it cheaper then why are they asking you? It just tells you how clueless they are to the hobby. I guess they think we are not smart enough to read through their b.s. And if they can get it somewhere else for cheaper it is probably a poor quality specimen. Good quality deserves higher prices, a person who has quality animals knows it and charges accordingly.

Hey guys I think all of you should give me all of your high end morphs for normal male prices :) and include shipping with that price AND be grateful that I gave you that much. It doesn't matter that you had to pay for the parents, go through the time and money and work to get that outstanding snake. All you have to do is put two snakes together (no matter the quality) and you get stunning triple morph combos.....isn't that right?

I admit to (especially when I was first coming into BP's) asking for lower prices. I think for the real newbies it comes down to not being able to tell the good from the bad. IF they are nice about asking for a lower price I tell them why my snake is better than the one they see at petco for $80 (lol no they are not selling super pastels, that is just a normal at petco) However there is no reason for them being rude. I HATE flippers!

I must add that there is one thing that forces me to badger a seller. When they don't list a price. I feel that when someone doesn't list the price, they are either 1) unaware of the current value of item for sell OR 2) they want to see if they can get some bonehead to offer something much more than what they felt it was worth. You have to have a starting point. Say you have an adult Suri forsale, Best off. Someone offers you $200, you feel like you are being low balled and take offense, I say, you were asking for it.

I've posted a few Make Offer type ads - usually for group or wholesale deals, though. Yes, I usually have an idea what I want...but I might not always know the current wholesale pricing, or I might think the price I'd already been given was unreasonably low. If I don't post a price - I can't really take offense at low offers.

Asking a price, or presenting an offer in the absence of a price, isn't badgering...unless you progress to being obnoxious if you are declined.

I was just trying to relate to the topic. I don't really badger them, just give them my .2 cents, which isn't always nice. Anymore I rarely even pursue an item forsale that is labeled as "Make an offer". I understand where you are coming from on the wholesale or "lot", and I don't blame you.

A lot of truth in this thread. I've got a few ads around on a couple different sites and I keep getting the same crap yall do. I love the "I can get it somewhere a lot cheaper from so and so" or when trading, "Well I just sold a 2010 male spider ball for $800 so I would be losing a lot on this" or "Isn't my half dead, emaciated CH normal ball beautiful? I paid $100 for her at PetSmart 3 months ago. She must be worth twice that much now! I will trade you that for your breedable female JCP!". Oh, you mean that poor starved animal who has half a shed still stuck to her, lives in a critter keeper without heat and is crawling with mites? Then those same people get all uppity and try to attack MY husbandry if I decline or politely offer them some tips. Those who have seen my snakes know I take pretty decent care of them. They may not all be super high end morphs, but you can't say I am doing that bad. Everyone treats you like your stuff is worthless and thier stuff is gold.

I can't imagine how some of the big breeders do it. Yall must have the patience of a saint or a sick sense of humor!

That's one of my biggest complaints with trade discussions...too many people attach "high retail" prices to their animals, while similarly sticking a "low wholesale" tag on the other party's. It's part of why I rarely offer trades - it just makes more sense for me to buy the animals outright, and sell my own.
(I think I'm usually pretty fair when I'm considering a trade...as long as the one key rule has been met - I have to want what is offered. I very rarely take in an animal with the intent of putting it up for sale/trade)

What I don't understand about low-ballers is the simple fact that if they found an animal for half the price, why didn't they just buy that one? I think when I start selling and people come to me with their low-balls, that will be my answer. There is a clear difference from haggling and outright low-balling someone. I'm not one to haggle much but I can see haggling a price if you're purchasing multiple animals or something like that.

As far as I'm concerned, an animal listed as FOR SALE means exactly that. That's the exact price they're asking for that particular animal. If you don't like it, move on. If you think no one will buy it at that price (and you're thoughts are true and it doesn't wind up selling), wait til the seller comes down on the price that you can agree on then pounce on it. It really isn't that hard....

In my recent ads I have specifically stated that we am not interested in any trades at this time. Well I keep getting texts from people who are offering trades. So far I've been very polite and said, "No thanks, I'm not interested in trades at this point" or something to that effect. We've had several people come unglued on us when we say no. One guy even went as far as yelling at us, "Well :censored: you :censored:! :censored: idiots!" and another guy who said, "I'm gunna come down there and kick your :censored: :censored: if you don't trade me.". That really helps your chances of ever doing business with us.

What the :censored: is wrong with people? It worries me everytime I sell or trade something with someone I don't know.
