In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I purchased a 1yr old ball python for my son for Christmas. We've had him 3 weeks now. The shop owner said he just got done shedding, but we noticed his eyes are cloudy today, almost blue. What does this mean.. He's eating and drinking ok.. HELP!!!

He's going into shed. It's OK. I wouldn't trust anything the average pet store employee/owner told me, if I were you ... not even about something as straight forward as the last shed of the animal.

Get yourself a book on BPs, and inform yourself about everything you can. Read, read, and then read some more. They're not difficult animals to keep, but you can make it much harder than it has to be by failing to follow the simple rules of good BP husbandry.

Good luck with him!

Cloudy eyes...

When was the last time your Ball Python shedded its skin ? and did it have a full shed , meaning did it shed in a single piece.. When you notice the eyes getting cloudy you should offer your animal extra humidity , a large water bowl large enough for your animal to soak in is a great help. Also do not offer your animal any food at this time and not handling your snake is also a good idea..

Opinions differ. Here's mine~

I usually offer food, and handle as needed during a shed. Food will be refused more often, but I have not noted any problem with digestion if they actually take the prey.

"The Ball Python Manual" is an excellent resource for basic info on the care of your Ball. You can pick it up for around $12. Check out your local pet shops/supply stores, or check some of the vendors right here on this site. Some of them also sell the BP manual.

Keep his humidity high until the shed. Don't panic when he goes back to looking perfectly normal in a few days with shedding.......that is normal. He will shed in about 4 days to a week.

Good luck!

one more thing.its always a good idea to check the slough for the "eyecaps"-the shedded transparent scales that cover your balls eyes.they will look like 2 little lenses on the shed.with access to humidity before the event there shouldn't be any problems.congrats!:)
