In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a 19 year old who talks the same way one the computer. no matter how much I tell her I DO NOT understand a word she is saying she still contunes to do so. I would not be so hard on this girl just ask her do redo the add in ad so that we can understand it. and hope that someday they will out grow this. LOL

Robin.

She didn't ask to be treated like a serious seller, nor is everyone on this site a serious seller or a serious hobbiest. I don't think that's in Rich's requirements; all are welcome here, big or small. That was pretty much one of my points; the gal wants to sell the snakes, that's all. If you're not interested or don't trust the deal, why bother replying with cruelty?

'Big time' breeder is a relative term, so I can see where that's going if she does answer the question. It could simply be a local breeder; a local breeder could easily be construed as 'bigtime' for someone in that town. Again, just because a person is in the hobby does not mean Fauna is the only way to communicate with the rest of the world or to find others interested in the hobby.

I know several local people who breed and wouldn't even consider wasting their time on the internet; it doesn't make them better or worse than those here who may or may not be 'serious' about the hobby in the eyes of other members. It just means they choose not to utilize the internet.

At any rate, she was very honest in stating she didn't know the snakes' current weights and gave their weights from the last time they were weighed. Nothing wrong with that for people who enjoy snakes for what they are - snakes to be enjoyed. If you want to know more, ask her. She doesn't have a scale; no reason to blast her for not knowing.

To each his own; new member, first post - common sense just tells me to look over the lingo and encourage, rather than attacking and alienating. Funny way to react to a newcomer when there is talk and concern about Fauna growing, methinks.

Just my .02 .

By all means. Lets encourage people to talk like four-year-old valley girls with no brains. Don't be Cruel? Oh, so now pointing out that you use NO proper language skills is cruel. I was waiting for someone to say "Oh you are so mean!" and there we have the first.
Anyone who expects to get money for a snake is a "serious seller" to me. That term means someone who has an animal they relaly WANT to sell, not just posting and then changing their mind, or meanadering off and forgetting they made the post. It has nada to do with how many snakes she wants to sell.
In that term too, she isn't selling her normal python she picked up last week. She has a morph, and two hets, and has had them for quite some time. This was obviously not a quick impluse and now let's sell it. She has animals worth a bit of money that she should get a decent price for.
That alone should make her WANT to post a well-written intelligent post to sell them. Instead she sounds like she smoked something before she got on the internet. I half expected "Duuuudee... like.. soooo knarley" to come out next.
You want Fauna to grow? Or do you want more intelligent hobbiests? Maybe we should run out to yahoo chatrooms and get a bunch of those yokels in. That would up the numbers.
I re-state. You are 19. Nearly an adult. Act like one. Crying that everyone is 'mean' when you are corrected, and being sulky when asked to give pertinant information in a sales post is NOT going to get you a lot of sympathy in the real world.
BTW, even a small local person should be willing to put their name on the snakes if they are thier hets.(Or carriers, or pastels)

I wanted to give you good karma.... then this showed its ugly head...

:( I tried

I have been an editor by trade and I am very hard on people in the office when it comes to written communication; believe me, improper grammar grates on my senses a great deal. Ask my son about what his strongest lectures from me have been about - indeed, grammar. By the same token, none of us are perfect; we all make typos and don't always use grammar correctly. Sure, her post was definitely a style we're not accustomed to seeing on Fauna, but if that's who she is and how she speaks, that's who she is and how she speaks. It doesn't make her a bad person. I never said encourage the lingo, but it's certainly not our place to tell someone how to speak or write, either. Her lingo was obviously casual and comfortable; there would have been no harm in asking for clarification without ripping apart the messenger and insulting her. Additionally, if someone is offended by how another person writes... that's the problem of the reader, not the writer.

For the record, the term 'carrier' was not only the most common and accepted term for 'het' in the reptile business many, many moons ago, it is still used in the field of genetics to this day.

On that note, I'll end with a laugh at the challenge to give negative points for being mean. I'm not the one being petty, so that was pretty comical.

:) Au revoir...

I think you did this girl a favor by criticising her grammer. I don't have very good grammer, but I try hard just because I want to be taken seriously in anything I write to someone (I really wish I would of paid more attention in English class). I really hope she learns from all these post and trys harder next time.

Steph, by no means am i trying to be an ass but its kind of hard getting started. I'm only 17 and had alot of issues brought up about my age but you just have to really be into herps to be on this site. If you dont know your info before you post your going to get ragged on by people. No one is trying to be mean but they dont want to deal with someone who doesnt take this serious. Ive delt with people like Sara Gatto and let me tell you from first hand, she is a really nice person who cares about her herps and deals. Just try what i did and lay back, I was a member for a while before i got into posting things. Just learn your info before you post, and if you get someone interested then thats good. Dont hesitate to ask questions if needed. I read just about every post in the BP, Boa, Corn, King, Milk, Torts, and Iguana section before i posted ANYTHING. Not to see what people had even though it was cool to look at others collections, but to learn what was what, how to care for, and the price variations on all the great herps on this site. Take your time and be patient when you are posting, ALWAYS spell check and always state what you know about what your selling. Trust me, i didnt have the greatest education by far but that spell check makes it look like i did just fine in school. Herps are something you WANT to work with, not to make money off of. People ARE nice on this site and you will obviously hit some bumps but everyone does. Keep your head up, and if this is what you want to do then hang around and some day you will get people you deal with and develope friends through this awesome site.

Cliff and Joe,

Kudos to both of you. As long as someone is putting forth an honest effort to do their best, it makes no difference what their age is....heck, there's a few younger folks around here that do a much better job than some 40 year olds I know! I would have been a lot tougher on a 40 year old making a post like that, lol. This gal may be young, but she's old enough to know how to post like an adult....or at least try to.

Posts seem to have worked

I know I am relatively new here but here is my $.02 worth.

I e-mailed Steph about these snakes the other night. She responded today and was much more articulate in her e-mail. She did state that it took her a while as she wanted to sound professional. I feel some people have been a little hard on her but she seems to be trying to learn from what has been written on here.

Maybe with a little coaching she will be able to establish herself here.

I would be glad to see her come back and "start over" here.....I don't expect perfection by any means, but as long as she's willing to put in some effort, I'd be more than happy to try to help her out, as I'm sure a lot of other folks here would.

Thanks for the post, Tanya.

That's nice to hear. While poor grammer doesn't have any real bearing on the quality of an animal or the person for that matter, you will be taken more serious if you take the time to post well written adds. Sometimes it is hard to accept critisism, especially when it's not asked for, but it's something that can really help you if you can learn from it.

If you end up purchasing the animals I hope that all goes well so you can leave positive feedback in the BOI.
