    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Here's a photo of an adult, male Peloncillo Mountains (NM) klauberi consuming a mouse. He's one of the male breeders in the colony. The colors on this male are simply gorgeous, but the user and the camera are both amateurs! I used a cheap Kodak Point and Shoot camera. I am still trying to decide on either the Canon Rebel XT or the XTI. Not sure if the extra 2 megapixels are worth the extra $250. Does anyone have any advice or opinions on these models? Are they too big of a leap for an amateur? Anyways, hope you enjoy the amateurish photo!

I would say that the more pixels the better. The reason for this is that more pixels give you MORE leeway with cropping an image. Suppose you wanted to have the photo of the head only? With a LOT of pixels to the total image, you could crop that part of the image, blow up the result to 800x60, and STILL have a real decent photo as a result. With a much lesser number of total pixels, this sort of technique could be severely limited.

ALWAYS choose camera equipment just a bit above what you need right now. You will quite likely grow into it quite quickly and be glad that you made that choice.

Good luck!

I too am in the market for a camera. I went looking around today and Power shot to be a good price and in trying it it takes pretty good pictures, the down point on that one for me is that it take 4 double A batteries so is pretty heavy. My computer reads off the memory card so not bad for me.

Now for a pricier camera but still under $500 was the Sony cyber shot H-9. The one draw back I found to that model is that screen does come out but does not swivel, better then the older model that does not come out at all :shrug01:

Little bit more is the Canon Rebel, I REALLY liked this one, more pricey and you have to buy your flash seperately but a nice looking camera that can take awesome pics.

All have 6 mega pixels or up and have stabilization and macro, two things I am looking for.

The prices were 349, 549 and 749 in the order I wrote them down in :)

All will make nice 8x10 pictures but Rich is right about the cropping and blowing up. I would tend to think though that if you zoom in and use the macro it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Man, choices choices choices.
