In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I recently ordered 1000 crix and 1000 mealworms from Bassett, totalling $20 plus shipping. Shipping costs were not listed anywhere on the site, so I assumed they would be around $5-$7. Imagine when my surprise when my credit card was charged $35.27! $15 for shipping? I could have gotten another 1000 crickets for that elsewhere! I tried this place after learning of LLL's deceptive practices with UPS, and I am very dissapointed. I got NO notice of what the total charge would be before my card was charged. USPS will ship a package overnight for less than $15, and obviously my crickets were not shipped overnight because I don't have them yet. Just wanted to warn everyone before they end up paying so much for crickets that should be half that price.

Pretty high for shipping, have you seen your invoice? I'm assuming that you haven't gotten your shipment yet. It's more likely they put something you didn't order onto your order, so you should call and confirm that. I've been using Bassetts for a few years and they've always corrected any problems immediately.

Try resolving the issue with them, whatever it is. You don't really have a gripe with a company b/c they make a mistake. It's when they make a mistake and don't correct it that you have complaint.

Bassett's frequently does make sizing errors on my cricket orders, and for that reason, I've stopped using them. They've NEVER failed to replace mis-sized crickets or DOAs, but I can't afford the time lost to correct errors since I have a lot of hatchlings to feed right now. Otherwise, they've been good to deal with, and more than honest and willing to make things right.

Well, why don't you try Wormman.com?I have been using them for several months and the prices are good, plus the shipping is included in the stated price-no hidden fees.I have never had any dead insects in my orders. It sounds untrue but 100% of the insects I have purchased have been alive. At least as far as I could tell,it is possible there could be 1 or 2 dead mealies or crickets in an order of 1000-2000,and I didn't see them. But I don't think you'll find anyone to beat their prices.

Update-I got my order. Shipping was $13 for 2nd day, plus a $2 handling charge. Neither the crickets or mealworms had any source of food or moisture. The crickets actually ate part of the egg crate! About 1/4 of them are dead, and I think most of the mealies are, too. The crickets also have those annoying little beetles in them that I personally hate. Sorry Bassett, you've lost a customer.

go for wormman....I get mealies and crix from him and everything has come in great shape...sure there's a few dead ones here and there, but that's going to happen when shipping in hot weather. No nasty unwanted bugs in the crix, and big fat mealies.

Sounds to me like the quality at Bassett's is still not back up to par. My last shipment of 3/8" crix was about 1/3 adults.

Get them to reship and tell them to fix the problems with packing. They'll do it, but I agree if they continually screw up, they're not worth dealing with.

I've ordered from www.reptilefood.com four times now since dropping bassett's and havne't had any problems with them. I used to use Sequoia, but they went out of business.

I used to buy all of my crickets from bassetts, and spent three years waiting for them to give me an open account. They kept telling me that I had to C.O.D. all of my orders for a year until I could have an open account. I was odering one to two thousand a week. After three years they still would not give me one. The last straw was when they gave they gave someone I sent to them an open account right of the bat. This person had the same type of herp buisness I had. I was never late, or missed a payment once! There was always beettle problems, and even some black widows, but I did buisness with them because they were close to where I lived.

I would not recommend them to anyone!

I switched to Grooms Crickets, and had an open account right of the bat. I also had excellant crickets and service.

Stay away from Bassetts!!!

I think you guys would be making a wise choice switching to Ken at Wormman! I've gotten a lot of mealies from him and I've never had a problem...well, I shouldn't say that...the first time I received a package from Wormman, I didn't realize that the mealies were NOT in a separate container within the box, and I opened the box haphazardly, and (you guessed it) they all went flying!! Grrrrr...I know now!! That's a heads-up for the rest of you, too!! lol Other than that....I couldn't be happier! And one of these days...I might actually get a bill??? Thanks, Ken ...keep up the good work! lmao ....Neil

I know what all of your problems are? Y'all are lizard people!! :p :0 If you had snakes, you wouldn't have to worry about crickets!!! :0 Put down the crickets. And step away from the lizards. *LOL* Just kidding, people.

Neil,

I admire your brown nosing abilities. After reading your last post, and others regarding certain dealers, I am convinced. Your @ss kissing skills are second to none. *LOL* Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. *LMAO* Pucker up, baby!!!

The Thorn Strikes Again!!! Have a nice night.

John...I told you once before...I don't care who you are...friend or foe...if you're right...you're right! If you're wrong...you're wrong! I will always give credit, where credit is due! And, I'll always be in your face if I think you're wrong??? That doesn't mean I don't consider you (or anyone else) a friend anymore....it just means that (like myself) you can have friends that are AH's at times??? But, being a jackass once in awhile, doesn't have a thing to do with morals....only YOU can prevent forest fires!!

Uh, no offense (ok, but I don't care if I offend anyway, just not shooting for that at the moment =) but ain't this exchange a bit off topic?

I use Armstrong Crickets..They have the right size, and a good amount in the box and they are all alive..They have the best superking mealworms..I have tried other cricket companys and have been very unhappy..dead crickets on arrival, bugs mixed in, along with several different size crickets. Or the back legs have been like they were broken. Armstrong crickets are the only crickets I will feed right out of the box to my reptiles. Try them... They have a web page..........
Thanks for letting me go on but I really like them.

I have been using Bassett's for a year now with no problems. The crickets are always alive and the mealworms are fine. They always add apple to all of my orders. I get second day shipping and it is never more than $5. Their customer service is good. Their prices are cheap.

I recommend going for reptilefood.com. I usually order 2000 crickets and it costs around $26-$28 with overnight shipping. Can't beat that!

I've ordered from Basset's Cricket Ranch several times this year. Shipping has been reasonable (under $4) and there have been very few dead ones on arrival. Mealworms have been healthy outside of one time during a heat wave.

I've been happier with Bassets than anyone else I've tried.
