    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i recently bought a uromastyx, and i noticed it was the same size as my bearded (both fairly young, 3months old at most) I put them together, and they seem unaffected by each others presence, i was wondering if it would be ok to cage them together or not? could this stress out the bearded or even the uro?
 
I tried this a few weeks ago and it is working well. The cage I use for the beardies is a Vision 3 x 6, with 2 heat zones, and low climbing branches and hiding spots and it provides a huge amount of room and the lizards love to run from one end to the other. The uro was in a smaller 4 foot cage and it just wasn't as much room to run.
Their environments are substantially similar and I have had absolutely no problems. The uro and beardies eat salads, but the beardies do not seem to eat the uro's fave food which is fresh dandelion flowers, he is getting a lot of those because it is spring here in Texas and there are tons of dandelions in the back yard since I do not use broadleaf herbicides.
 
Keep in mind a few things.

Uros like it hotter and dryer then beardeds and also shouldnt have a water bowl (as they often knock them over which raises the humidity in the cage and causes problems for them).

Also, the diets are different. You dont want a uro eating alot of crickets if your feeding them to the bearded, it would be too much animal protein.

While they may "get along" and im sure people do keep them together, it is best to set them both up in habitats more specific to each ones individual needs.

Housing them together is not really a good idea for several reasons

A uro needs temps at least 20 degrees warmer than a beardie, the temps the Uro is best at, would cause heat stroke to a beardie.

The beardie is a much larger consumer of foods and the URO should not have the animal protein. The beardie will outgrow the Uro and even a small size difference will make the beardie start looking at the Uro as dinner and not a cage mate... in the wild that have been observed eating others and their own species with very little size difference.

The beardie needs higher humidity level or will have nasal and ear membranes drying out.

and the biggest problem is coccidia that is considered a natural part of the digestive fauna in a bearded dragon, is deadly to a Uro.
 
After reading the well written replies here, I took and put my uro back in his 4 foot cage. I wanted to give hime the luxury of more space. but I think 4 feet is good for one uro and the above reasons make it a better choice to keep the two species separated.

Most captive uro's would consider 4 ft a nice home! they are very territorial and usually remain in the same small area even in the wild. Give them a rockybacking/ hiding area, good food, good temps and they are very content being captive. I have one that pitches a fit when we try to pick him up at first... then is just fine being held and very calm... but man is he spastic when first trying to pick him up!
 
I'm still setting his cage up but it already has some great hiding spots. I did a lot of rearranging since it is spring break and I have time, I moved the birds out to the living room/kitchen area. The dragons like room so I am restricting each cage to one pair, and 4 of the 5 dragon cages are 6 feet long. I may add a third, a female, to each cage as I would like to get some red dragons one of these days.
 
Hey everyone. I have heard before from pet stores that beardies and uros sometimes mate. Is this even possible? Just wanted to kno. Thanks in advance.
 
No,it is not possible. I would suggest you not follow that pet store's advice for anything related to care or husbandry of a reptile.
 
Even though people mix species, I don't reccomend it, especially if they come from different continents. Like cheri said, you could pass something from one to the other. It could be something that the animal isn't used to dealing with. Kinda like when the settlers first came to america, and brought the common cold and diseases to the native americans. Josh
