    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have had my Beardie for about a month. He eats really well. His tail is very short. I guess it was nipped off. My problem is this. He runs from me. and tries to run away when I do get him out of his pen. I get him out everyday for about an hour or more and it is not getting better. He even bit me once. I am concerned that he will not ever calm down and will not fit my family well. I do not want to give up but if he bites one of the kids they will freak out and not want him any longer.

need a run down of size, age, pics would be cool. how long have you had him? was he a rescue? where'd he come from? how did the previous owner house him? how do you house him? must have more info.
 
I have had him for about a month. I got him from a reptile store. He was not rescue and I am unsure of his age. He lives in a 55 gal terrarium. His tail is mostly missing and he is about 8 inches including his tail. at the store he was in a 20 gal tank with like 5 or six other dragons. I think I attached three photos of Puff.

Try handling him a little later at night? Right around lights out, I've heard it's one of the better times to handle the more skiddish ones. You haven't had him all that long, and I bet he didn't recieve much attention in the pet store, and he's not a baby anymore, so he probably just got use to not having the attention...I'm sure with some tlc he'll come around.
Might try shrinking the cage down a lil, he may be enjoying the new space a bit too much, and he doesn't seem big enough to need the full run of a 55gal long..
Does he still try to run off even if you walk around with him?

I handle my newbies Everyday when I get them, and usually take them out at night, and let them fall asleep on me,a nd "put them to bed" ffor the night. I have a girl I've had since she was about 6weeks, and she's sooo use to being handled now you can pick her up and she doesn't even cling to you, she fully trusts that you're going to keep her where she needs to be. :p
 
Some dragons raised in the exact same environment have different personalities...view being handled in a different way. I think cage size is fine...the dragon had the tail bitten off which will cause most dragons to become more skittish,,,at least for a while. Don't handle too much,an hour is a bit long. Hold it close to your body so it sees that you are no harm to him. It may never become as docile as you would like,but could at least tolerate your handling and not bite you. If kids are flocking around the cage all the time,that will cause stress as well....give him plenty of quiet time and take out once or twice a day for 15-20 min. tops.
