In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am in need of lots of help. I have snakes of all sizes running around my back yard and I need to know what to do.

I live in Central Alabama, across the street from a large body of water.

We found one yesterday, about a foot long, non aggressive. Found 12 more today, babies, most less than 5 inches long. I grabbed one when weeding, scared me silly lol

Here is a pic of the big one.

Looks huge but I needed to get a close up to see the markings, see above, about a foot long.

What kind of snake is this please? And how do I make sure we don't hurt one or get hurt by one. I have little kids and want us all to be okay.

Thanks for any help at all!

That snake is a little beauty, nonvenoumous although I don't know exactly what species it is.

I'd just keep everything picked up in the yard, no tin lying around, no boards, lumber, brush piles, etc. so the snakes don't have a place to hide. Keep it mowed short.

Only the venomous ones can hurt you. You need to get some pictures of copperheads, rattlesnakes and cottonmouths and familiarize yourself with them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Karen.

Yep, keep it all cleaned...well as clean as you can keep a mountainside :) There is a lot of brush and what not that we can't get rid of. If they only stayed there I'd be happy!

I know all about those other snakes, but thanks for that link!

Still don't know what kind it is, but we've had about 5 more, about 4" to 6" long, in my front flower bed. Must be the mulch that is drawing them. Sadly, I can't get rid of the mulch cause it keeps the flowers cool in this hot, humid part of the country.

Any ideas as to what I can use that snakes don't find attractive?

Again, thanks for your comments.

LOOKED LIKE A KINGSNAKE TO ME ....I'D KEEP IT .......I'D GIVE ANYTHING TO BE OER RUN WITH NONVENOMUS SNAKES IN MY BACKYARD

What kind of snake??

Definately not a king snake. Almost suredly a local garter snake. If you like to garden you want to keep these beauties around because they eat slugs like crazy. Do you have slugs in your part of the country?

I'm pretty sure it was a Brown Snake. (Dekay). They are real tame. I think it's a midland brown snake to be exact .

I agree!

I go out behind my house at least three times a week and find mostly rattlesnakes. I would kill to be overrun with snakes! Can I come over some time? Just kidding, hahaha.
