• Responding to email notices you receive.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Best Way To Ship A Boxie???

Of course you will be using overnight shippers like fedex, ups or dhl. I prefer fedex as it has always been the most reliable for me.

I pack the box turtle in as tight a space and as low a space as possible. Heat packs in the cooler months, cold packs in the warmer months. Always get the temps of the destination point in advance because this is where it will probably spend the most time before its delivered, ie. the back of the fedex truck. I like to place a few moistened paper towels in the box but do so only if you are using a styro insert that has no seams on the side or bottom. Basically its a one piece construction. If you are using cut up styro boards chances are the bottom will have gaps and the moisture will leak through to the cardboard and become soggy. If your using that dont use the moistened towels. Sometimes they collapse and open and that will irritate the driver something fierce to handle a wet box. Not every driver is like Doug Heffernen from King of Queens.

Be sure to mark the box with notes such as "THIS SIDE UP" with arrows pointing to the top at all sides. Its not fool proof and even for customers. I had a return once that the bottom of the styro was broken to pieces. When I asked the cuatomer how that happened they stated they opened the wrong end and assumed I seal the turtle within a shell of styrofoam. Amazing!!!

But the most important part is making sure you use a box that is lined with some strong styro to make it crush proof and marking it clearly in block letters. Keep the animal packed in low and tight so it has no real room to bounce and tumble. I normally wedge a piece of thin styro strips sideways into the box directly on the mid point of the shell and criss cross them until I reach the height of the top of the box. Seal it up and away she goes!!!

Hope that helps....I havent lost an box turtle yet that way.
