Although I was under the impression that Brian and I were friends, I found out I was wrong.
Brian and I started talking and got to know each other over a few months time. He traded me some stuff and I also bought a Jaguar Normal Sibling Carpet Python from him, as a female. I kept the snake for around four months without sexing it myself. I was double checking a couple snakes before cooling time and decided to check ‘her’. The snake probed as a male. I emailed Brian and told him about it, and he offered to trade that snake back for another that was supposed to be a female. I never asked for it to be replaced. I told him that was fine and I wasn’t really concerned with it after that.
Before we traded back, I had purchased another snake off of a website that was misrepresented. When I got her and realized she wasn’t what she was supposed to be I tried to solve that problem, but the seller disappeared on me. So I offered her up for sale for what I paid, $200 plus shipping. Brian e-mailed me and told me he wanted to buy her, this was around the end of September. He asked me if I could hold her until the beginning of October and I said I would. Well, the third week of October came and he then asked me to hold her until the following week. This continued until the first week in November and then he told me he could ship my ‘female’ Jag Sibling and a Money Order for $200 out and asked if I could ship the male Jag Sibling and the other female snake to him on the same day. He said he was going to a reptile show and wanted to get the male back beforehand so he could offer it for sale. I shipped as per his request, only to find out that evening that he did not. During that weekend, while he was at the reptile show, he sold the female snake that he never paid me for. I did eventually get the other Jag Sibling, the following Thursday. As soon as I got home I probed it and it was in fact a male. I contacted him immediately and told him about it, and also asked him about the $200. He said that three different people probed the snake as a female, which was either apparently another lie or he had three people that didn’t know what they were doing probe the snake. As for the money, he told me he bought a few things with the $200 he sold MY snake for and he would send out a money order later that week. Never happened. Onto the next lie……
Later that week when he was supposed to send out the $200 he called me and told me that the person he sold the snake to returned it and he gave them their money back. I am sorry, but first of all that is not my problem, he purchased the snake from me (although he never paid for it) and I was owed $200 regardless of if he could sell it or not. Also, if someone buys a snake in person, holds the snake, gets to take a good look at it and is happy with it, then the sale should have been final. I find it very hard to believe that he was interested in helping that person out when he wasn’t even interested in paying me for the snake.
He then told me that he had another local person interested in it. A few days later he called me and said he sold it to them, so I though good I will finally get my money for the snake. NOT! When it came time for him to send the money this time, he told me that he took a personal check and the buyer put a stop payment on it. Once again, not my problem. I don’t know anyone that is ignorant enough to take a personal check from someone they don’t know. This is about the time he blocked my emails.
He did then send me a letter which was postmarked for January 4, 2007, but was dated November 18, 2006. He told me in the letter that he was going to court over the bad check on December 5, 2006 and would start sending me $55 a week on December 15, 2006 until the $200 was paid back. He then told me that I could send him back the Jag Sibling and after he received it, he would refund the money for it…. I told him, in the letter I replied with, not to worry about the Jag Sibling and I would cut my losses. Actually, I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice. I also told him in the letter that I would be willing to take a trade for the snake I sent him. I never got a response to that letter, it was sent on January 10, 2007.
I replied with that letter, and I have also since sent him an email from a yahoo account that he did not block (he blocked my main email account only), and I got nothing in return. Although he has told me, while he was returning my emails, that he couldn’t afford to send the $200 out of his pocket….. He was able to purchase what looks to be an adult Green Tree Python.
Although making this post won’t get my $200 back, maybe it will save someone else from Brian’s ‘Make friends and BAIL’ stunt. I know for a fact that I am not the only person that he has pulled this on, hopefully some of the others will come forward now.
