Christopher,
I forgot about the first post and went back and re-read it.
Good point, IF you are inexperienced with working with spitters.
I have worked spitters for over 20 years, (Naja nigrocollis, N. sputatrix, N. m. pallida)and I have NEVER had one spit while being lifted in mid-air on a hook. To me, spitters lose their ability to "spit", "spray" while being held up by a hook in mid-air.
Spitters "achor" themselves on the ground, throw there head back slightly, BEFORE they "spray" while projecting their head forward, DURING the "spray".
JMO, and it has NEVER happened to me, ever. There is literature supporting this, however, I don't have it handy right at this moment.
I understood the big brouhaha about the original post, but laughed it off, thinking that MOST people who post on here, don't usually keep spitting cobra's.

This is such a horrendously ignorant and irresponsible post, I'm almost at a loss for words.
Let me say this up front: I don't keep hots. Don't want to.
However, I spent 18 years in heavy construction and have been a fire arms enthusiast for 20. And what I've learned is this:
Safety Procedures Exist for a Reason. You Either Follow Them, or You DON'T.
You're point that the cobra is on a hook in mid air, therefore maybe-kinda-sorta-in-my-experience-and-there's-literature-to-back-me-up unable to spit is absolutely irrelevant.
1) can you prove, absolutely, with 100% certainty, that this ONE cobra really CAN"T spit in mid air???
2) do you really think that the cobra was never on the floor, therefore perfectly able to spit, the entire time the guy w/o goggles was in the room. Or that there haven't been times, not pictured, that people were present when the cobra was on the floor who weren't wearing glasses?
Your statement is like a guy saying to a cop, "yeah, the gun was loaded, and yeah, I did point it at my cousin's head, but I didn't put my finger on the trigger, so I don't know HOW his head got blown off"
It's called negligence. And all you've shown with this post is that you are just as irresponsible and careless as Keith is.
NOT to mention arrogant and condescending---"Good point, IF you are inexperienced with working with spitters." If you'll look around post #100, you'll find a picture of Tim Cole, this thread originator, with HIS spitting cobra. And guess what? He's got goggles on.
If you want to be stupid and get yourself killed, please knock yourself out. But posting the above statement is the kind of thing that leads to newspaper headlines. Big Bold ones "man killed by pet cobra, legislature considers ban on exotic animals"
