    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

On a side note with the whole IP thing, I am a member of another site and a little experiment on IP's were done, yes Bryon and I shared the same IP, however seems that 2 other people in 2 different states did too. Now how on earth is that possible?:shrug01:

That's because you guys use dial up. Your IP changes everytime you connect to the net. You're going to match a whole bunch of people.

It is not unusual for people who wish to obscure their identity to use a service such as AOL and use dial-up numbers for locations outside of their local area. They can also use the 800 number, which makes it pretty much untraceable.

A while back I was trying to trace a person who used AOL in a couple of instances in the Tampa area and the IP match was several pages long of members here...

Laura, I believe that the cyber experts would concur that while your dial up IP will have other matches, the chance of any being a bosom buddy by coincidence are beyond remote. For two similar entities here to share the same IP is not coincidence. If one claims to have never met the other, and is telling the truth, its because the other does not exist to begin with.

To Dennis H., and all others with banning/suspension power. I just put my trash out. Five cans were full, and I made the effort, with my truck, to get all five cans down to the road, 600 ft. away. Not one can, not two, but all the trash that needed putting out.

Now, to wash my hands. Twice.
 
Is the warning for "Maliciously destructive off topic posting" still in effect? There seems to be an awful lot of that going on around the BOI lately. I'd love to see some more trash taken out... it's overflowing!
 
There are fixed number of IPv4 IP addresses.
An ISP is assigned only certain subnets - and each subnet only has a certain number of IPs.

If two people use the same dialup ISP - there actually is decent probability that there have been IP collisions between them. The probability that they are the same within a small time frame is remote, but over a long time frame with lots of connections made it actually isn't that remote.

Put 30 people in a classroom - odds are that 2 of those people share the same birthday, for example, even though there are 365 possible birthdays.

The thing is if they use the same dialup ISP they each have a plethora of IP addresses that increases the odds of a collision.

If the matches were in a very short time frame, I would agree the cause for suspicion is high. I don't know.

As far as both being Jedi knights, Star Wars was a very popular film.

I'm not saying they aren't the same or don't know each other, I am just saying that jumping to conclusions can be very damaging to someone's reputation when the conclusion one jumps to is incorrect. It then haunts them forever because there is absolutely nothing they can do to convince you otherwise, and it more than likely will be brought up time and time again.

I was NOT talking about a network collision.
I was talking about a collision in the statistical sense - two of them being the same.

Please do not make assumptions about what I do and do not know. Herps are my first hobby, Linux is my second. I majored in Mathematics in college.

You realize that when you can't prove they aren't the same, and he does prove it, that the "Lible-ness" lays on you. You do realize that, don't you Bud?
 
This really isn't worth a lawyer.
A year ago or so the trend here seemed to be accusations of IBD in collections. Some justified, but quite a few not - and it turned out that many who thought they had received IBD animals either didn't, weren't able to demonstrate that they did, or had bought from several vendors and not had adequate quarantine.

The trend now seems to be accusations of multiple handles. Some are valid - but I suspect quite a few are not, and many of the accusations I've seen do not have sufficient evidence.

Wonder what the next trend of accusations will be.

But anyway - there's no need to get lawyers involved, the cost isn't worth it.

You have been warned by Ken, Dennis, Dr. Owens and myself to quit making baseless accusations against this site. Now, you come on and accuse a moderator of altering the IP logs. No, I’m not going to put up with it. You can join Bruce. Unlike Chuck, your vacation is permanent for now.
