In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Beware:Colin Smith of F-One or F1 Snakes

So when he said he wanted to wait for the rest of the clutch you just assumed he didn't want either of the snakes you had showed him? Correct me if I'm misunderstanding you.

I think everyone would still like to see the emails.

I don't think that he assumed that. I think that he just assumed he wanted to see the rest of the clutch. Either way Scott didn't say that he wanted either snake for sure, nor did he put money down to hold either snake. So in essence, Scott is completely SOL!

I would really like to see those emails. I'm also assuming we won't see them since Colin doesn't seem interested in pursuing this, and Scott has good reason NOT to post them.

Scott is pretty much accurate with what hes stating was communicated in the emails. I am sorry for Scott not getting the snake he wanted and would have given him a great deal to attempt to satisfy him, but before that even became a talking point he told me about how he would trash my name and that I would learn how destructive the internet can be to someones business. I dont do lists and the 4 people that were emailing me daily about that clutch were told that. Scott contacted me and I told him he could have first pick since he lived close by and Id avoid having to ship. I didnt anticipate there being only 1 snake from the clutch that would be to Scotts liking. I had to leave to work and only two of the seven hatchlings were out. I sent a picture figuring hed like what he saw because they were what he described he wanted. He asked if he could wait for the rest of the clutch to come out and I said yes. I never said I would reserve that snake, or that snake was his or anything like that. I then sent the pic to the other guys and that snake was paid for within minutes. I apologized to Scott for this all, but I guess we can all see what kind of guy he is. For the record there were no used car dealer tactics. All those snakes from that clutch sold for the same price. Out of the hundred or so transactions Ive made over the years, Ive had exactly 2 bad ones, including this one. The other one was with some crazy lady who went all "Scott" because she had to go to the sort facility to pick up her snake, which showed up A-OK. Anyhow, this will be my one and only rebuttal. Thanks Tad and everyone else.

Colin, I appreciate your response here. When you sent me the first pic of that clutch with the two females and said it looks like the rest will look similar I simply wanted to see the others before making my final choice. I also didn't want to have to drive two you twice (about a 2.5 hour round trip). Once to pick up the female in the picture and again later to pick up one of the males you were expecting.

With that said, I am bummed we had this miscommunication because I was highly anticipating getting a pair of your hatchlings. They are just snakes though and I am over it, to be honest. I really don't think you are a bad guy and regret posting this here. Even though I am disappointed that I didn't get my pair of snakes, I don't feel this should deter others from doing business with you. I truly feel that this was a mishap and I have no doubts that you have a lot of very happy customers. You produce some nice animals and your prices are very reasonable. I do wish that we could have made good on this deal with a plan B before it got to this, and for that, I do take responsibility for the way I handled it on my end. I apologize for my reaction and wish I could delete this thread and start over. I was truly excited to come to meet you in person and pick up those snakes. I think we both learned some important lessons here, I for sure will always make a point to put a deposit down on a particular snake if it's one I have to have. I have to admit I have never purchased animals online before a month ago and please forgive me for not knowing the "drill". It's a good thing because of the market is huge and there much more choices, but it has it's drawbacks in that miscommunication and misunderstandings can occur which wouldn't happen in brick and mortar stores.

Let's move on and put this behind us. At this point it's water under the bridge and a waste of everyone's time to spend another minute on it. Take care.

I absolutely agree...Now he will probably comeback with the "Oops, sorry" routine after being caught trying to be vindictive to ruin someones reputation. Those missing emails would prove Scott to be sneaky and manipulative. He certainly make my "list"

I have chosen to not post them because I am over this discussion. Enough said. Just a misunderstanding and I prefer to leave it at that. If you are looking for a nice alterna then I recommend you talk to Colin. I highly doubt what happened between he and I would happen again with someone else. It was just an unfortunate occurrence and let's move on.

Oh please, like I care about your "list". As if you even have anything I would be interested in. Colin even said my statements about the emails were accurate. In fact, the stuff you didn't see further supported my argument, not his. I wasn't trying to hide anything from anyone. I was simply venting my disappointment in how a deal went sour. I never got to see the whole clutch before it was sold and was not happy about that. There was nothing sneaky or manipulative about what I did. I will, however, admit that I shouldn't have been so quick to post this thread and should have given Colin some time to make good on this before I over reacted. He did apologize for doing what he did and I should have just accepted the apology and worked it out with him.

Not trying to hide anything? Then why conveniently leave out "he told me about how he would trash my name and that I would learn how destructive the internet can be to someones business". I'll tell you why. You were being vindictive and purposefully trying to harm his reputation. You absolutely ignored this since Colin posted. THAT is not a misunderstanding..in my opinion, the wrong person has that bid red X by their name. Poor excuse.

I thought that was a polite and responsible apology, and I'm sure we can appreciate the disappointment that led to an overreaction. This should now be let lie I think.

This also makes me highly doubt the authenticity of the locality of his snakes. I sure wouldn't trust the guy ever again after this experience.

Kimberly, I think you nailed it.

Actually, what I did "conveniently leave out" was his name calling, profanity, and that he wanted to fight me because of this. But that was after the snakes were sold and irrelevant at that point. Stop being so quick to judge because you really have no clue what you are talking about. You seem to think you are a lot smarter than you really are.

It is also clear that you are not a business owner, because if you were, you would understand how business works a little better. Successful businesses have policies such as "return policies", "refund policies", "exchange policies", "minimum order policies", and low and behold "DEPOSIT POLICIES". These are put in place to avoid misunderstandings like I just experienced. Big businesses take it a step further and have terms and conditions agreements that outline how YOU have to do business with them IF you want to do business with them.

I have inventions being sold in big box stores across the US and even the world. I deal with many businesses every week and understand how it works.
I have agreed to and signed 20 page terms and conditions agreements so that I could do business with big box stores, as well as many small businesses. I even get penalized for shipping product a day late, or forgetting a bar code, or not writing sku #'s on the outside of boxes.

If I was a reptile breeder, I would have a few basic policies clearly stated on my website saying if you want to reserve a particular reptile then you have to leave a 50% non-refundable deposit and I will hold the the animal for ten days, or whatever is fair. I would also have a shopping cart on my site that would allow my customers to make a deposit or pay in full for a particular reptile without them even having to contact me. I would also not promise someone "pick" of a particular clutch and show them part the clutch before selling them off to others. I would wait till the whole clutch hatched before showing them to anyone. The East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley, is the only herp store that has survived in my area for more than a decade and they do that. Without these guidelines in place, I do not think I am unreasonable to assume that a small business owner should keep his word if he makes a promise.

How many pet and reptile stores have you seen come and go over the years?
It's kinda sad for me so see all my favorite herp stores disappear because they are run by knowledgeable breeders and herpetologists, not knowledgeable businessmen. Why do you think the large corporate chains are forcing these guys out of business? Because they are run by smart business people who know how to run a business. In most cases their selection is terrible and they have limited knowledge of the animals they sell, and they still do well. Problem now is that most people think they can sign up for a GoDaddy account and file a LLC on Legal Zoom and they think they can run a online business, which is just not the case.

Actually, what I did "conveniently leave out"

Either post the emails or stop talking about them. Your continuing reliance on what they say without taking a moment to show us what they say makes you suspect. And the way you talk to readers makes any attempted apology hollow.

I actually do not believe for a minute that you 'deal with businesses' every week because you would know not to try some shenanigan like this and disparage them for no good reason.

Bottom line Scott, YOU chose to wait. YOU sent no deposit. YOU are SOL. That is just the way things are done. No matter how much you spew rubbish, it's not going to change to suit your needs.
You expected him not to sell snakes while you waited? Seriously? You then threaten to ruin his reputation, go online and bad mouth the guy. You then get all bent out of shape when people don't agree with you. You refuse to post the emails that YOU say support your claims (even if they did, you are STILL in the wrong here.) because they would expose the threat you made to Colin.
I certainly hope people reading this realize that doing business with you would be a huge mistake. You laid out this long winded "apology" which immediately you continued to repeat your disappointment. And yet again, you do not address the threats you made to Colin. It was mentioned a few times now and you simply ignore it. Why is that? I know many would not have done business with you AT ALL after threatening them like that.

I don't know Scott or Colin. After reading this thread I will say that I would do business with either of the two before I would do business with anyone else involved in this thread. The two parties appear to be at peace. The only ones who aren't are the ones who seem to need closure so they can put another star up on the "I shot Billy the kid" bulletin board next to their name. I totally understand and agree with why he was upset. I don't believe either party is a bad guy. Just my opinion.
