• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Beware Kevin Lee Jarvis of Akron Reptiles (Bull123)

I really appreciate the support. I know Kevin Jarvis or Bull123 visits this site regularly and I will keep my word and report back if he does the right thing. People do make mistakes. Most importantly, I hope I don't see another post in this forum about a reptile of his or someone else's that suffers this badly in transit when it could have avoided with better shipping practices. Thanks again.

...I hope I don't see another post in this forum about a reptile...that suffers...when it could have avoided

I agree, so here's some info for anybody reading this post who may, someday, need to know. Please don't use handwarmers. I know they're available at WallyWorld, sporting goods stores, Amazon, and everywhere else. They seem like a good idea. Unfortunately, this is not the first thread I've seen where this particular good idea had fatal consequences. And I'm sure it won't be the last, either. There is a product called UniHeat Heat Pack which is designed for shipping tropical fish, reptiles, amphibians - this is what you want. It's on Amazon, some of the reptile supply houses also have it. Look for the UniHeat Tropical Fish Shipping Warmer (Heat Pack).

what about FEDEX ????.......if items like this come through the system....smelly..etc.......how long before we lose them ????......JUST SAYIN...:shrug01:

Second that. First time I was embarrassed signing for a package. I should have known something was wrong right away from the smell. There was no hiding it and three days later my car still smells. Now knowing what caused it makes it worse.

He's obviously ignoring the attempts I've made to contact him. I lesson I have learned and have quickly come to appreciate is that in this field and forum reputation is everything. I would think he would want to preserve his.

I would like to hear from him if only to take ownership of an unfortunate mistake, and take the easy steps to correct it. People with similar interests can be very forgiving after a little honesty is shown. If I made a mistake on my end, I would like to hear that from him as well so we could both learn. I'm certainly still new at this.

I made him aware just incase no one else has :)

I'll post a link to the Ohio groups on FB. We are trying VERY hard to push out scammers and others with less then honest practices. If he does the Columbus, Cinncy or Cleveland shows then we go up to the table and call them out as well. Lots of fun !!!

Really appreciate it. Like I said no one is perfect, and I'm not a fan of this being one-sided either. If he plans on shipping more reptiles he needs to know it matters that its done right. I know the breeder he orignally purchased this particular Mussurana from is known for his positive customer service. I didn't realize how much that mattered.

It has been a week and I fear Mr. Jarvis may have found a new hobby or perhaps a new forum to frequent. Anyway, despite my initial faith in redemption, I realize this may be a lost cause. This is compounded by reading other recent board inquiries with far larger issues at stake. Nonetheless, I have chosen to escalate the Pay Pal dispute claim and wondered if any success has been found in retrieving a refund from a similar situation?

I was fine a few days ago, but now I’m going through a bit of a ticked-off phase that I hope passes. Once again, if Kevin Jarvis issues a refund, I’ll make sure he receives his positive due.

Thanks in advance,

Generally, PayPal doesn't care much about Not As Described issues except for eBay transactions. Their protections don't cover live arrival of animals; so, most of the time - in this situation - buyers are out of luck.
However, if you paid via credit card through PayPal, you can pursue the matter with the issuing bank.

Thank you for your advice Harald. Obviously, it wasn't what I was hoping to hear, but it was what I suspected. I appreciate the opportunity to vent here and do hope a few members learned a valuable lesson or two. I certainly did.

Thanks again.

I wanted to keep my word and I'm pleased to report that Kevin Jarvis and PayPal just refunded the price of the snake I purchased from him in February. I've learned it can be a tough situation when a transaction between a buyer and seller hits a snag, but having a little patience and remaining civil is always the best way to go. Thank you Kevin and I'm confident your reputation on this forum will remain positive.

Why should Kevin be absolved of all wrong-doing and given a pat on the back for refunding you when he still did a horrendous job of packing that poor animal, and it took you starting a BOI Bad Guy thread for him to respond to you. I doubt he would have issued your refund were it not for you starting this thread; furthermore, after looking at how that poor animal was packaged, I would never buy from him.

All too often we just go "Oh ok the seller refunded the money. Everything is good now, he's a good guy now, yay!" We forget the circumstances that started these threads- if a seller isn't willing to communicate after a mistake/accident unless he or she is threatened with a BOI thread, it doesn't say much about said seller's character, does it?

Well said. :iagree:

Apart from paying you back his reputation is done for me, just another one to add to the do not buy from or sell to list...

I wish people would learn to ship before they do so, it's really heart breaking having to open up a box that stinks before you cut the tape.

After so many deaths, why can't/won't people learn that
HOT HANDS ARE NOT FOR SHIPPING REPTILES!!!

At least you got your money refunded...
