• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I ordered from them, and on their shipping page I went exactly by what the information said. Well, it lies - they will not stand behind their guarantee. They are weasels who will con you outta your money and lest you say anything bad? They will refuse to do anything

They changed the page, when I told them I was going to dispute the purchase because everything arrived dead they told me if I did they would put it on my credit report as a collection. I told them go ahead...

It's cool you got a screen shot of something ... but, unfortunately, not readable.

I'm not siding with Backwater, but please provide more information relative to the sale, shipment and dispute.

I ordered from them - I went and read their shipping page to find out how I needed to ship my purchases. This was a really large order I needed it overnight. According to the shipping page it would ship overnight. Ok fine. 6 days later it arrived everything dead. I attempted to contact them - was told that I was completely wrong, their web page said nothing of the sort - here is a copy of the page before they changed it.

and I tried taking the sides off of this picture (the brownish background area..hopefully this is readable)

They quickly fixed the web page, told me it was my fault. I told them I will dispute with the bank. They advised me if I did they would turn it over to a collection agency to collect their money. And it would go on my credit report. They were overall nasty, ignorant and bordering on harassing.

What did you order? Do you have emails to back up what you are saying? Not saying they weren't in the wrong, but with so few details from you it's hard to make an accurate assessment.

Teresa, did you order feeders? It looks like they aren't listed in the table...they are written about in the last paragraph.

What were the order and delivery dates?

Maybe I'm not reading closely enough but I'm missing where they changed their webpage. I view Backwater as a reptile mill so I wouldn't be surprised if what you're saying is true. I don't trust that that place would properly care for all of the animals they're pumping out.

I could be completely wrong but I get the feeling from their site that they get a lot of the reptiles drop shipped from others.
Great looking site and easy to navigate but it feels "sterile" like they're not talking about animals that are actually in their possession.

Here is what has changed from what is posted above;

"Feeder cricket and fruit fly orders are shipped via overnight UPS, most other feeder insects are shipped via 2-3 day priority USPS, including roaches, ants, earthworms, mealworms, waxworms, hornworms, etc. If you add waxworms, mealworms, or giant mealworms to your cricket order, they too will be shipped via UPS overnight delivery at no extra charge."

I sent Backwater a link to this thread. I think there must be facts missing out of this account, perhaps the OP could give more details so that readers could better see what took place. OP, if you could provide emails that would be helpful as well.

Can you add some details? What did you order (at least specify animals or feeders)? When was it ordered? Were you able to track what day it was sent and where the delay was?

The holidays caused MAJOR delays in shipping, especially with UPS. I'm not sure who's going to be responsible for problems caused by these delays. I obviously don't think the buyer should eat the cost, but I don't know what your best recourse is as you haven't specified anything regarding your order.

Don't buy

Don't buy from drop shipper. They don't care shit about the animals. There are a lot of them out there. Most don't even know what is sent just answer emails.

I f you do a quick search for backwaterreptiles you will find a lot of negative feedback written by customers. You will also find positive feedback. If you do a little research into the positive feedback you'll find that most of it is written by them... Here are just a couple websites they own where they are reviewing themselves. To be honest, it's pretty pathetic when you have to review yourself.

I love how that first link shows an Emerald Tree Boa but lists it as a Green Tree python. Professional website looks, bad information.

I was on another site on FB & BackWater sent a 15 yr old boy a very sick baby Uromastyx. You can even see it in the pics he posted. Well needless to say the poor baby died within 24 hrs & they will not honor what they say. They made one excuse after another. The best was when he explained how he died & the man said that they dont' die that way.. What? the poor thing was very skinny/eyes closed.. NEVER EVER BUY FROM THEM> this is not the first time i've heard bad things about them sending out sick animals. They need to be reported.. If you go on you tube there is also another complaint..

Feeder Roach Mix up

I ordered 200 mixed Blaptica Dubia Roaches from their website on November 11, 2012 for $43.96. I received the package November 17th. I opened the package to ALL extra small roaches. I contacted them and said I believed there to have been a roach mix up, and then went on to explain. I received an email asking me to put a penny in the box with the roaches for measurements sake, so he could ask the roach guys about the mix up.
The next email stated that they were running short on larges that week and therefore they shipped 50-75 small ones. (Problem was there were no small, mediums, or larges, just extra small were shipped. They said they ran out of larges, didn't even address the other sizes that should have shipped also).

They then informed me that they are shipping 30 FREE larges to me Monday. I got the order later that week and it was ALL ADULT MALES. I just never responded for the fact that I didn't want to deal with it.

Problem 1- If you sell on a website, and someone places an order that you can not fill because of shortages. YOU contact the costumer and 1) Either refund there money or 2) ASK if the costumer would be ok with a substitution.

It pissed me off that they took it upon themselves to make the decision for me. :NoNo: I order mixed because at the time I was starting a colony. I did not order EXTRA SMALLS.

Let just say I put them on my never purchase from again list.

One thing I will say is they ship fast, and the roaches were healthy. But never again will I order from them.

Attached is the picture of the extra small roaches I received in proxy of my 200 mixed. Didn't really equate to me.

Go through with your dispute with the bank. It WILL NOT affect your credit, that is an empty threat. He almost never honors his guaranty because he can't because he buys from others after taking your money. PLEASE always check the BOI first. These guys have a much earned terrible reputation.

I ordered a caiman from them a few years ago, and they sent me an American alligator. Gators, are illegal in Colorado. Needless to say I never saw the animal, but had DOW knocking on my door asking me why I had a gator sitting at FedEx waiting on me. From what I was told recently by a friend of mine there is an investigation going on about them, doing illegal activities with said animals. My saving grace was all my emails I had sent and my billing receipts for the caiman I ordered not a gator
