• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Beware of bogus email sources!

I just got this message sent to me, supposedly FROM me:

Hello user of Faunaclassifieds.com e-mail server,

Some of our clients complained about the spam (negative e-mail content) outgoing from your e-mail account. Probably, you have been infected by a proxy-relay trojan server. In order to keep your computer safe, follow the instructions.

Pay attention on attached file.

In order to read the attach you have to use the following password: 21017.

Have a good day,
The Faunaclassifieds.com team http://www.faunaclassifieds.com

Please note that this is a bogus email and the attachment more than likely contains a virus program. Of course, I did not open it. I strongly advise that you do not open it either.

Virus programs are getting right clever, aren't they?

I got something like that tonight! Mine was "from" the site where I am staff. LOL! There's an attachment, "readme.zip," but I didn't dare open it!
What cracked me up even more was the way it was written...all the piss-poor grammer. If this really came from "The Management" (which would be me or 2 other people, by the way), it would be written a *little* different. ;) The password part is pretty hysterical too...LOL!

Dear user of Simslice.com,

Your e-mail account will be disabled because of improper using in next three days, if you are still wishing to use it, please, resign your account information.

Please, read the attach for further details.

For security purposes the attached file is password protected. Password is "25677".

The Management,
The Simslice.com team http://www.simslice.com

I got a couple of those. AVG told me that there was a virus in the attachment. I've gotten anything from MyDoom.F to Netsky.B so far. I'd say just delete any attachments you get that are .scr, .pif, .exe, .bat, or anything along those lines.

me too

I got the same thing, same story, it got deleted as quickly as it arrived!

I have my mail program set to automatically plop any email with an attachment into the DELETED folder. Unless it is a JPG or GIF, I will never see what that attachment is.

Got a similar one myself this morning. From the management of my own site. Duhhhhh

Dear user, the management of Armyants.org mailing system wants to let you know that,

Your e-mail account has been temporary disabled because of unauthorized access.

For more information see the attached file.

Have a good day,
The Armyants.org team http://www.armyants.org

My Av confirmed a virus in the attachment.

And, here we go again...this time from "staff" at Simslice (Which actually is a real address, unlike the last "noreply" one. It was a good guess on their part! LOL!)

I wonder if there is a common denominator here...or if it's just coincidence that several users of Fauna are getting hit at once?

Damn kids and their virus garbage. If only they'd put their programming expertise to work at something productive instead. <sigh>
...Off to Symantecs Security Response to double-check my system.

I got the same email as well. I also have them plop directly into the deleted folder, and "zap", sent it to email heaven.

Hey i got one from myself as well

but when i looked at the details.....it was from the same e-mail address that I have been getting MOST of the virus letters from.

maybe I will let him know he MIGHT be inadvertently sending stuff out.

This issue has been addressed in other circles. Some of the virus and SPAM attacks we have been experiencing may not just be from some local home boys playing pranks, or ill informed businesses trying to get out their advertising. Some of this stuff is of such a volume and malicious intent that it is likely a form of electronic warfare. The USA is the biggest audience, by far, on the internet, so such things would greatly impact the USA more than any other country on the planet.

Keep this in mind. It will give you a different perspective about what we are actually involved in.

Yes, from what I understand it's a brand new virus that showed up in the last day or so. It's a fairly smart program from what I can see.. able to plug in information from websites you visit and/or possibly moderate/own into a basic form letter and send it out. I've gotten several already from various websites I play on.

Having gotten several it was easy enough to determine a new virus attack. If you are not a webhopper and only end up with say just one such 'official email', then the content makes the email really look official enough and because you "recognize" that familiar website name visit you are more likely to trust that email and the file attached. Virus savy folks know to never trust unexpected file attachments but other folks may trust the illusionary source and think the file is "safe" to open. If you look at detailed headers you can see that the email really didn't come from where it said it came from. I don't know if its been determined yet or not if the person's whose email you do find in the details is actually the person infected with the virus and sending it out unknownst to them or if the program is just picking random emails from the infected person's address book. I'd hate to bust on someone and then find out that the email never came from them at all and they just had the poor luck to have their address in someone else's book.
