In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I bought a metal-halide bulb/ballast ($120 + shipping) from this company and it stopped functioning after 8 months. Since there is a warranty of a year on the bulb, I e-mailed them and sent the bulb/ballast, which they said they would test and replace.

I have been WAITING 2 YEARS NOW for it to be replaced. Each time they have a new shipping manager(I have spoken to three different people now, all promising me it would arrive soon).

Now their latest story is that they are not manufacturing the 70w metal-halides anymore and instead making 35w.

They offered to send me a beta test version of this 35w bulb on February 28, 2011.

However, the bulb has still not arrived and they are not answering their e-mail for a number of months.

This company is a complete fraud!

Simon

Here is their site and indeed there is one excuse after another on the site itself, how brazen is that?

http://reptileuv.com/

When I had my iguana, some of the sites I went to touted the Mega-Ray made by this company as the best light ever, but many of them also spoke of many months of waiting for their bulbs.

I've come to the conclusion for both this company and any company, it doesn't matter how good the product is, if the customer gets nothing but delay and sorry excuses, the critter isn't getting what it needs and the company is not worthwhile.

What makes these bulbs and ballasts different from the ones you'd get at an electrical supply store? I'm an electrician and my bet is, nothing.

I think your bet is wrong. You might look into the glass on supply store bulbs, I do not think the glass allows significant UV to pass through.
In any case, this is more of a discussion forum question.

I don't know, the glass on the bulbs I normally see looks pretty clear to me. I never said I know for sure. Just trying to help the guy out, no need to get snippy...

Simon, I'm really sorry to hear about your problems with reptileUV. I must admit, I am a bit surprised. I purchased several of the Mega Ray bulbs for various animals, and one of them went out at about 10 months into the warranty. I sent it in as per the instructions, and I had a new one within a week, no problems at all. I was very impressed with them, but it's really a bummer to hear your experience has not been the same.

So you resort to negative karma to get your silly point across? Grow up, sister, and get a life.

For dragons, Reptisun 10.0's or the ZooMed PowerSun's if you want a MVB. Save your receipt for the PowerSun's as I am willing to bet they dont make it to their first birthday!

Hate to say it, but I too have been having issues with them. I ordered two 160W bulbs for my beardies and it took months to arrive. Also ordered two low level bulbs for my chams which burned out within a couple of months. I ordered three more and haven't heard a word. Posted communication on their website and no response. Weeks have passed.

This was a great company to buy from - one of the best. I think this is my last order, if it ever comes in.

This is a cut and paste from my last purchase from my debit card:

Here is the Paypal cut and paste from my October purchase of three bulbs (I only use two at a time, so all three burned out between October and April):

Yup. I've got two I need to send back. One burnt out the next DAY. The other a few weeks. Part of the "bad batch" they sent out and explained on their website.

I used to sing their praises, but I have stopped referring people there. A friend of mine had to get her money back through PayPal for a recent order she wanted to cancel.

Im the friend Mike the M mentionned. This was my first transaction with them.

I placed my order on April 2nd and paid with paypal. I saw the note on April 11th on their website about the longevity problems encountered. I tried to contact them about it and see what the expected delay would be to no avail. Phone and e-mail, even the e-mail that garantees a response with 24 hours. I then filed a dispute through paypal, to which they never replied, and then a claim. They didn't reply to this one either so paypal gave me my refund.

I heard so many good review about them and was eager to try the Mega-Ray with my turtles.

This is what is so frustrating. As a business manager, I can understand delays for various reasons. However, I can not understand the lack of communication. It has been over a week since I've emailed them. I simply asked them how long the delay was going to be as I needed to get lights. If they could not ship out soon, I'd get some temporary fix until theirs came in. All I heard from them is silence. Too bad, this company used to have the best lights in the industry.

Has anyone contacted BobMac about this thread?

I have not contacted him about the thread since I didn't start it, I was just adding my experience. But since he has not responded to any of my e-mails in over 1,5 months or Paypal for that matter, I wouldn't expect him to respond to this truthfully.

If I was a dealer/vendor, no matter what the problems are, I wouldn't let my reputation slip with something like Paypal, it's never good for business.
