In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

beware paypals users

How do they report it? I have a verified acount and never even gave them my SS#, without that they get report it. They had some thing a while back asking for it when I logged into my acount and I bypassed it for that reason.

Safest way?

Perhaps the safest way to buy/sell would be to just stick with the good ole postal money orders shipped next day priority?? Ive never used paypal, and from what im reading its probably just as well...

just my experience

I have been using Payapl for about 2 years now and have been quite happy.

I have once have someone try to say I didn't deliver an item to them and was trying to get thier money back and I sent all the info to them and was found in my favor.

Then one time I lost my wallet and my paypal card was in thier and someone had spent over $400.00 dollars on it. I called them right a way (and yes I got thier number off thier web page. It's easy to find if you want it.) and they put my funds back into my account within 24 hrs as I sent in all the paper work for the theft.

With me they have been helpful and have had great customer service.

Maybe the ones that have had problems didn't read all the info or I am just a minority?

Okay, so this thread inspired me to look a little further ... all this "new" fine print and whatnot. Granted, it's something I should've done a long time ago... but at any rate, things have definately changed. It was a lot easier when I signed up two or three years ago. Never had a problem with them - at all, this entire time, (knock on wood) but - after looking at their user agreement again for the first time in a long time - it's kind of scary... Now I know why customers I recommended to them had such trouble registering and what not - unbelievable!!
Sure, they sent me an email every time they changed... but wow!
Hell, I think they only used to charge 1.9% per transaction , (for credit cards only - not everything like they do now) and they 'snuck' it up to something like 2.5 or 2.9% (depends on a number of things, apparently.)
Get this: As I understand it, if you opened your account after October 11th, 2001 and "something" happens - they have every right to "correct the problem" by going into your bank account connected to the one on file, after they deplete whatever is currently in your online account, frozen or otherwise - Can you imagine?? Unconscionable!!
As much as they've been a benefit to us all this time, I'm seriously thinking about getting out while I can. After actually reading through all the changes they've made since we started, it's quite frightening - (and that was before I checked out the warning sites!) Without a doubt - not being able to accept credit cards/ e checks/ etc. will definately kick me while I'm down, so to speak, but after seeing what could possibly happen - it's a chance I can't afford to take.
As for other options, (besides money orders) after looking briefly; c2it looks like it might be the best bet - they're backed by a real bank and don't charge nearly as much, (still need to do homework, though...)
Also - I read somewhere this evening that if you do decide to close your account - it's best that you remove your credit card and bank account numbers BEFORE you close it.
Like I said - never had a problem with them before... but...
I don't know... will stew some more and get back to you.
At any rate,
Happy New Year!!
Liz

Actually I would really like to hear about an alternative to Paypal. I avoided it for the longest time simply because I did read the fine print there and didn't like it much. But after getting beaten down repeatedly by people asking for it, I just bit the bullet and set up an account.

So far I haven't had any problems, and it's actually been pretty smooth sailing. Of course, all it takes is one iddy biddy iceberg to ruin your day.

I would just stop using PayPal, there is Billpay and a few other options but PayPal is the KS of online payments. They're not the only option but they're the only one that will offer anything close to what you need. Like anything in life, I would just be sure you have a safty, don't keep money in there and I don't think you have to link them to your bank account so don't. Just have the funds sent to you. I have NEVER kept any money in PayPal as I looked at their TOS and knew I was asking for trouble. I FULLY expect PayPal to blow up in my face one day but I knew that before hand and just hoped i could ride it out long enough.

I see it as PayPal has helped me SOOOO much if I took a $500 hit right now I wouldn't mind!

I must also add that for some reason, this thread is pissing me off pretty bad. I hear this same, I read the fine print when I signed up but haven't since, I read the fine print and PayPal is doing what they said but it isn't fair and so on. It's just the stupidest thing for me to see. One thread people are excusing things based on tos and in the next they're upset about having broken the rules laid out in tos. You can't have you cake people, come on, either this is fair because it's laid out in tos or it isn't fair and tos has nothing to do with it. Sometimes a site/persons tos goes too far. You all need to make up your minds on tos and if it's the final word and justification for all actions or not.

Adam Block

PS At least we can talk about PayPal sucking and not loose our accounts. Or would that be fair too cause it's their site?

Just wondering why KS ws brought up in this thread....
when this same person told us to drop it in the KS thread.

If you break TOS and get your account frozen or get banned.....it is fair.

If you do not break TOS but get banned anyway or get your account frozen.....it is NOT fair

Adam, cool off man. Your starting again

One thread people are excusing things based on tos and in the next they're upset about having broken the rules laid out in tos
now who was it that started a thread because they broke TOS?

let it go

And to think that about 3 or 4 mths ago people were all happy about being paypal members.Anything that has to do with credit (including paypal) only does 2 things for you, 1) gets you deeper in debt ,and 2) gives you nothing but BIG problems.I have a real simple solution to the problem at hand and believe me it works real well (that is if the technologically advanced can remember),Its called CASH.Having cash on hand is way better than having credit in a company that will give you this many problems.I myself wont have credit, need credit,or use credit for anything i buy including reptiles. If i cant pay with cash or m/o then it dont get bought by me.

People depend way tooo much on having credit cards or credited accounts with companies like paypal. All you are doing is asking for them to bend you over and ram it where the sun dont shine (sorry to be blunt) and smile about it afterwards.I really and truly dont understand peoples philosophy when it comes to perceiving problems. Its obvious to me that anyone who owns credit cards or deals with a bank is just asking for trouble but then turn around and want to complain about it.Life is a double edged sword.Play with it and eventually you WILL get cut.You never ever trust anyone with your money except you. Regards Bill McLeod

Well, Bill...
In the perfect world you might not need to depend on banks or electronic transfers of money, but this is not the perfect world, and for some purchases or sales you simply cannot WALK over to the buyer/seller and have a hand to hand deal.
I NEVER had credit through paypal....it simply provided a service to TRANSFER my CASH from my bankaccount to someone elses bankaccount.......or receive money from someones bankaccount.
It has / had NOTHING to do with credit whatsoever. It is/was a service that provided a CONVENIENCE for the exchange of existing CASH.
I do realize that paypal now has their own creditcard also, but this is not what is being discussed here...
Even if you walk around with your CASH, ready to purchase something in PERSON, guess what.....you can still get mugged and the crooks take off with your money.....(you are lucky if thats all they take off with)
Paypal worked awesome for me for 2 years....they changed a lot of their terms...i didn't follow that or realized how little to no protection you have with them anymore...no matter HOW you manage your paypal account, or whether you keep money in it or not.
Just the fact that we are using it to buy/sell ANIMAL makes any kind of protection they might offer NULL and VOID.
If any seller gets hit with a chargeback....and you have sold reptiles, guess what....you have NO recourse....no matter how smart you deal with paypal...

What is it with people and this perfect world cliche. Is it so perfect to be smarter than your bank and keep extra cash on hand just in case something did go wrong?Have people actually gotten to the point to where a pencil/pen and a piece of paper (in this case a m/o) is to hard to comprehend?Sure paypal, banks are esay when it comes to credit, transfers, accounts,or whatever else they have that people seem to need so bad,But look what it gets you into.To me and i may be the only one but trusting any kind of a bank or credit accountant with my money is foolish and if you are going to and something does happen then obviously you done it to yourself and cant rightfully complain about it because it was your fault or whoevers fault for trusting them in the first place. As for the getting mugged theory do you think that if you carry credit cards they are safe as well?I trusted a bank one time in my life with a good sum of money and within about 3 mths time (without me spending it) all of suddenly disappeared and they couldnt give no explanation,Only well we cant do nothing about it.I trust me with my money and no one else. Regards Bill McLeod

One other thing. If you are not protected by paypal when purchasing animals then why use them for that?I know there are quite a few on here that use it mainly for that purpose but if your not protected and eventually have to shell out more money or go through the hassle of trying to get your account fixed then why even use them period?I'm a simple man and prefer to keep my plans as simple as possible without all the headaches and hassles,so why is it that people will still go through all this with these different companies and complain about it when something does eventually happen? Pay Pal and trading chickens

PAY-PAL allows buyers the convenicnece of not haveing to leave the confort of their homes to purchase items online. Without going to the bank. I personally dont use it, and have refused to for ahile, primarily because of stories like Kims. Its not worth the extra headache. I am a very simple person, probably belong in an era when people traded chickens for blacksmith work. I frankly would be happy if we didnt even have the net. Call me backwards, but anything that enables us to snap decisions when it comes to purchasing something that in all respects should have been a THOUGHT out purchase cant be good.

Immediate gratification, at a price. In this case , the price of a person financial state ruined and of customer that are haveing hard times too.

Pay pal? Nope. Bring on those cold greenbacks!!
(And a chicken if you got one!!)

Although you do NOT need paypal, people usually have to have banks, accounts and such.
Paypal used to be a good way to transfer money and made it easy to buy/sell... Actually i thought, and a lot of people still do think that paypal made it SAFER to purchase / sell....because you would be able to receive/pay instantly.
But they have changed their TOS many times, and what i'm and most people are guilty off, is not keeping up with that....
i had no IDEA that they put that clause about animals into their TOS.
So yeah, thats my fault.
Now i know better....many more people will get burned, because paypal is sneaky about changing TOS and protecting only themselfes.
Btw. i do NOT think that people are to stupid to use moneyorders or checks or wield a pen and paper.....
it is that with a service like paypal, you would KNOW that someone WANTS that reptile and PAID for it.....instead of waiting on checks, moneyorders that sometimes never show up...so i guess esp. for people that move a lot of animals, it means a lot of "safety" and convinience...There are a lot of people anymore that will ONLY accept or prefer paypal, because it gives them a (false) sense of security. Because they have probably not realized yet that with all these changes, sellers have NO protection anymore...at least not when sending animals and there are a lot more clauses then that, too...
That is why it is so important to get the word out about the big flaws that are being detected with that system.
And people CAN rightfully complain, nobody is perfect, and we are here to warn each other and help each other out....

Hi Fred...:)
I'll trade you 6 prime beautiful chicken for you coming over here and the stairs to my deck....DEAL???
But WAIT, if you come within the next 10 days i even throw in a homecooked dinner and a slightly bowlegged but functional rooster...
What ya say??;)

Lucy and Fred,
True that paypal is a convenience but its a convenience with a hefty price.Banks are also a convenience,They conveiently misplace your hard earned money. There are alot of terms for convenience as in if someone were to mess with my money via, stealing, banks, credit or otherwise i would conveniently break there neck.Although in some cases it does help to have some form of a fallback like credit or banks but in most cases its nothing more than a way of giving your money away to some overpayed, overrated, overindulged, bunch of misfits. I like the idea of the olden days when life was good and the only headache you had to worry about was fixing the occasional broken wagon wheel.I like them days and if i ever get the chance to build me a house its going to be so far back in the woods that it would take 3 days to send me a posatage stamp.I would have a sign at the end of my 4 wheel drive trail saying all trespassers including friends not invited will be violated and then prostituted for any violations herein. Regards Bill McLeod

all trespassers including friends not invited will be violated and then prostituted for any violations herein.

:erm:
*coughcough* You may wanna rephrase that... I -THINK- you mean prosecuted... atleast I hope so... :eek2:

-Kat Hall

Where do I have to go to get prostituted??

Something about never seeing my money bothers me. It just goes from PayPal account to PayPal account to bank account to vendors and so on. How do I even know I have the money when I can't see it?

Best advice I could ever give somebody is to ruin your credit at a young age and be able to get on with life debt free with no worries of credit cards, bills and the entire BS.

If you all thought about this or looked into it a little deeper it's insane what you'd see. These prime lenders like Providian and so on know what they're doing. The number of people they're lending to has grown by 1000% over the last 10-15 years. They take the hit when you can't pay and it's a tax write off. The only people that loose out are the taxpayers. No different the taking welfare in my eyes.

Maybe I'm off the topic but PayPal is a great tool that like any other has A LOT of room for abuse. If it's not worth the risk to you don't deal with them. Otherwise, when you take the hit do so knowing it would happen.
