In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Biodome/scorpian/leo/ plus extras

Ahem,
All the snapping, snarling and frothing going on in this thread is a VERY poor representation of the calibre of this site. A tendency towards extremism, intolerance and nasty opinion has taken over the offering of advice. It has become ugly. Time to quit.

Listen Mercedez, I am pretty sure that you have gotten the point and realize that you made a bad choice. The world has not come to an end. Chalk this whole thing up to a learning experience. The lesson being that you really need to thoroughly research a project BEFORE spending any money and effort on it.

In general, most pet shops are highly reluctant to take animals back and refund money. You will have to make some phone calls and see what the return policies are. Sorry, no short cuts, not "easy" buttons.

It was a great idea and I can truly understand your excitement about doing it. Unfortunately the idea is flawed. This doesn't mean that there aren't other options.

You say that you want to have animals. That is where the rest of us began. You do have part of what you need. Choose ONE animal, do a thorough research of its required care, be sure that you can get the proper food for it locally and at all times of the year, purchase what you don't have so to provide adequate care. That is how you begin. Jumping feet first into grand projects and trying to pull them off without the knowledge needed is a risky gamble.

Reptiles, amphibians and arachnids are specialized pets. They are much more sensitive to the kind of care they get than are dogs and cats. They will starve and die just because something isn't right. If these are the types of animals you want to keep you can not be sloppy about providing them with exactly what they need.

There seem to be some assumptions that this is your teacher's idea and your teacher designed the project for you. Is any of this true? If so, your teacher did you a disservice. You might be forthcoming with your teacher and tell him/her that you need another idea as this one isn't going to succeed as planned. What I don't understand is why an Earth Science teacher is suggesting and giving credit for what is actually a Biology project. I find that hard to swallow.

It is also unfair of adults to encourage you into things that you are not prepared for or equipped to handle. Your choice to engage the members of this site for support and information is commendable. Don't quit us just yet.

Thanks for fineally supprotnig me. I apreceate some real help here unlike everyone telling me im not from the innercity and othe rthings. Im glda somebody agrees that this thing will actually work. Thanks again.

If Mike is telling the truth and he really did do this-I think maybe there might have been some misunderstanding between him and the teacher. When I was in high school my biology teacher had everyone make biodome-like self containing ecosystem like he claims his teacher is having him do for ec. My ecosystem was in a 2 liter bottle filled with water with some gravel, algae, some other kind of water plant and a couple of guppies. The guppies provided CO2 for the plants whilst the plants provided food and oxygen for the guppies. I think something simple like this is what your teacher intended. Not some huge 90 gallon tank with umpteen different kinds of animals with totally different needs. Did you specifically tell your teacher that you were using all these reptiles from different locales? Or did you just say lizards and a snake?

Well, this is starting to get old. I just found his other thread with putting the fat tail and the leo together and he just isn't getting it. I'm putting in for the night. I have to get up at 6.

ok let me see here. isnt it just survival or the fittists.. i guess we all have different views on captivity amimals. can we just agree to dissagree

ok...before i log off. When the animals are captive it is NOT survival of the fittest that is just plain cruel!!!!! When the animals are found in the wild together ie-hawk and rabbit...then it is survival of the fittest. You have animals that would never meet in the wild.

When you take in an animal-that means that you will love it, shelter it, feed it, clean up after it..etc. Didn't you say that you care about animals? Try to see things from the animal's point of view. Say your one of the leos. First of all, you're stressed out enough from the other leos that you are with. Then you see all the newts and various other lizards running around. so you go and run into the nearest hide you can find to hide from them...you fall asleep only to find that you're curled up with the snake and it getting harder to breathe...... sorry this really agitates me!!!!!!

i beg to differ tiff. Are you familiar with parrahas that have been introduced into waters of the united states waters.

Also tiff. are you a biology. you said you supposedly went to school with me but if that were true you would still be in school with me. unless your like 20 and stilled failing.

Why are you guys being so mean for me. all i know is that im definatly going to speak with my teacher tomorrow. to make sure everything im doing is still going to get me extra credit.
night herp lovers

you have obviously never had my humburt as your science teacher. he's rediculous and every point of extra credit is weelll needed.

dont you have a job tiffany

i'm back--forgot my cell (use it as an alarm).

Mike-you contradict even yourself! [QUOTEMercedez]Are you familiar with parrahas that have been introduced into waters of the united states waters.[/QUOTE] In the wild means naturally found there!! NOT tampered with by human beings. And no I have not heard of piranhas being introduced-though i did hear of some kind of chinese fish that is taking over everything. I didn't say i go to school with you. I said i might have gone to school with you. I graduated in 2003! I've been going to college. So no, i am not 20 and still failing. There could be a ton of Mike Bateses out there! I just said there was only one that I knew of.

yes i have a job and why does it matter to you? I pay my own car payments, insurance, saved up for my animals and i pay for there food and vet bills which is not cheap! I also pay for my own college tuition which my parents don't help with. I don't work for fun. and i'm not some bum.

no i've never had humbert as a teacher..so we must have never gone to the same school either. I had Mr. Arnold. His son was into reptiles (still is) and he always had leos, anoles, and ring necks in the classroom.

Please keep this thread on a civil level. I would hate to have to dole out warning points if the discussion dips into the gutter.

For the record, Mr. Bates, teachers are NOT always correct. When I was in the first grade, I had to correct MY teacher because she was telling the class that snakes are invertebrates. I had to bring in one of MY books to prove her wrong. Teachers are just paid to teach as a job. There is no law that says that they have to know the material they are teaching. So when a bunch of people here who very likely DO know the material they are talking about make suggestions, it may very well be in the animals you are caring for best interests to listen and listen well.

Ok. listen up ladies and gents.
thank you for all your feedback. You just took part in a psychology experiment. one might say you have all been geckoed. but seriously do you think it will work. go to bed tiff. youve earned it. g night =)
