In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

the first wave of blood So you get the secondary wave of blood instead, which isnt nearly as good
Good Golly Miss Molly you get bit and there are waves of blood??? Did they crest right there in the bathroom? Wow !could you surf on them? I just got bit for the first time in many years and it was from my little princess "pinkie",just a 5 foot pink snow corn, she tagged my pinkie too. quick bite, release and some pinpricks of blood ( no waves lol). My 7 year old son/partner heard me go "umphh" so I told him what happened and with his jedi-like knowledge says "Well, you're hands smelled like mice"

I've not been bit HUNDREDS of times, but I've been bit by quite a few species. Kingsnakes, ratsnakes, boas, balls, anacondas. Nothing too serious though :) Biggest thing that ever bit me was either the 6-7 ft boa or the 6-7 ft anaconda. Bled a lot, but didn't hurt. Had a couple bloods and retics who would've loved to bite, but luckily that never happened!

On another note, I'd much rather be bit by 20 snakes than a rat. Those suckers hurt.

I just got bitten the other day while feeding by a 3ft pastel CA boa. It was my fault, The f/t feeder fell from the tongs and I went in to get it without grabbing something to block her. It wasn't terrible but certainly not pleasant. You play with fire........your gonna burned.

Matt, It's all hearsay until we see some pics...lol, Did you go to the recent Akron Reptile Show?

I've been bitten more times than I can count... mostly from baby boas and whatnot, but I've had a few memorable BAD bites...
One of my "favorites" was 2 years ago. A "friend" of mine called me with a problem, his adult Macklot's python got loose in his car and managed to make his way into the dashboard. He brought his car over to my place, and we took the car apart to get the snake out. Once the snake was accessible I grabbed it and it was NOT very happy about that. He just started striking blindly and hit my arm about 6 times before I finally got a grip on his neck... Lesson learned: Do not grab angry adult macklot's python out of the car without a hook/gloves... oh well.
Another good one was back in 2004, I had a "good sized" (10ft) Retic. I was moving, so I had to bag her since it was fairly cold out at the time. She really was not in the mood to go in the bag, so she ended up grabbing my hand. As soon as she hit, she immediately wrapped my arm. She managed to get my hand in such a way that my thumb and first finger took the pretty much all of the teeth... one of them went right through my thumbnail and another hit the bone on my finger... (I still have the scars from THAT one...)
The other major memorable bite was when I was doing a demonstration for a group in 2005. (The bite happened afterwards, not DURING the demo). Anyway, I was showing them a variety of snakes and lizards that I had, and trying to teach them a bit about each. One of the animals that was included was my American Alligator. Granted he was only small at the time, maybe 3.5-4ft, but he has never really enjoyed having his mouth bound. I would generally only bind him if he was going to be out of his enclosure and around people other than myself. After the show, some of the children wanted to ask questions and see the animals closer, which was fine, but again... "Nigel (the gator)" was not in the mood. He was fine the entire show... but as soon as I got him home and unbound his mouth to release him into his enclosure, he quickly turned and snapped, hitting me in the face. At first it felt like he hit me with a closed mouth, so I thought nothing of it. Shortly after, i realized that his mouth was NOT closed, and that i had blood running down the side of my face and chin. I guess a few teeth got me.
Nowadays, my collection is pretty much Ball Pythons and a few species of Gecko... (a few boas also)... so I rarely if ever get bit by anything serious anymore. It's a bit less exciting, but I can't imagine that there won't be more stories in the future...

Yes I was at the show. I bought a 07 male pastel hog x Colombian mix. I hope next time they have more tables so I can stop driving to Brook park and Columbus.

I'm not sure how to participate in the poll. (Lol, I know how to vote, I just don't know which to vote for)

I've been tagged several times throughout my life, but not every single day, but I do handle my snakes (or atleast one) every day.

I was tagged by an unknown rattler when I was 12, between my thumb and forefinger, and that was scary.

I just got tagged for the first time in a long time. My Northern Pine had quit feeding, and then today I had a bit different offering for her (small rats scented with deer blood) and she went crazy. I made the mistake of just holding the F/T rat with my fingers and she missed, then latched on. I had to blow in her face hard to get her to let go. She has been refusing food for three weeks and I was worried, and then today, Bamm!!!

well i have been bit more times than i care to think about. the most memerable one was by av female borneo short tailed, she was 30 or 40 lbs and around 6 ft or so. my feeding proceedure was open cage throw rabbit, close door. well she missed the rabbit got my hand right in webbing between thumb and forefinger, wrapped my hand etc. took 2 people to pry her off of me and my hand swelled to the size of grapefruit. nothing broken thank god still hurt.

:O OMG! A couple more feet on her and she could've taken you down! I got hit in the same exact spot by a rattler when I was a kid, and that would've hurt from a colubrid, let alone a boa!

After this incident, did you invest in feeding tongs, or were you back to the same method next feeding day? Lol.

Good idea. Cost efficient, and possibly a little grippier too. But the best feature.. Your snake doesn't take half of your hand at every feeding! Lol.

I used to use salad tongs when I fed my BP, and it worked fine and dandy!

I've found that rinsing my hands in alcohol between food animals seems to reduce the mis-strikes I was getting when hand feeding. Doesn't hurt to take some of it internally either...

Ahhh...we need pictures here people....This thread is all about the blood, waves and oceans of blood....If there isn't a picture, then it didn't happen :yesnod:

Where I work we make hand sanitizer and I put purell on my hands before handling, seems to deter them just from the smell alone. And if they do bite their not on you for long.

The worst bite for me was from a cat. I was cleaning his cage, and he jumped out on me and was wandering around the room. He started climbing up one of the steel cages, so I go to grab him. The cat knew I was there, so I didn't startle him. The little bugger chomped down on my left hand right between my knuckles and kept chomping. About seven bites, all in the same wound.

I felt fine, I put him back in his cage (at which time he was acting like a perfectly normal feline) and then i noticed that the color of my gloves looked funny. I was bleeding so much. I sort of just laughed and thought "well hell, I get to go home early". I managed to walk maybe ten feet, and I started going into shock. I fainted right in front of my boss as he was showing around the person he just hired

That damn bite made my hand swell up four times its size for a few days. I'm just glad it was on my left and not my right.

Reptile-wise, I've only had a few corns, garters, and... bearded dragons. The corns and garters I didn't feel at all, only afterward the bites felt mildly itchy like a mosquito bite.
